QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) It is consistent with how I was taught to play the game and I fully think it is a solid play. It isn't as if the Rays were up in arms in protest either about it. They just figured, what the hell, why not. I'll give you that he probably shouldn't have reached out, but I like this style of play. It's against the rules, this isn't about a style of play. You can't grab a fielder while he's trying to make a throw, and if you could it would be chaos. I'm sure there will be a judgment call using the new slide rule that will make us all shake our heads, but this isn't the one.

Of the 57 relievers last year who threw at least 30 innings with a ground ball rate above 50%, I count 8 who allowed a lower BABIP than him. Most of those 8 had better strikeout rates than Albers. No pitcher in baseball with more than 30 innings had a higher strand rate (95.1%). It's great that his time here has gone well, and he's a fine reliever, but I don't expect him to keep holding a 1.00 ERA. He's still firmly in the Just A Guy (JAG) category for me. I'd be good with him handling the 8th sometimes, if only because he doesn't walk a bunch of guys and that makes us all feel better.

Keuchel last year. And if Gray counts, so do Carlos Carrasco and Garrett Richards.
-
What did he say after the game, that it was embarrassing to baseball or something? Get over yourself dude, you grabbed a foot.

Yeah as said above, Drake jokes are too much fun and I don't want to cut off that avenue forever. Not signing, sorrynotsorry.

Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi

QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) I think the only place in America where it's called "pop" is here in the Chicago area. Everyone else in America calls it soda, which is its true name if you read the packaging itself. I've called it pop before in other cities when I was away on business and it often got a chuckle out of the locals. Nope. http://popvssoda.com/ -
Also pitchers have routines, preparation that goes beyond just the day of the start. You can't necessarily just scratch a guy and insert another because you feel like playing matchups.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) And, guys, it's soda, not pop. Don't you even start. -
Tell that Triple A [bleep] to shut the [bleep] up. Tell him to start throwing some strikes or he's going to get Dusty fired. ~ Ozzie Guillen on Rich Hill #NeverForget

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Do you drink like 4-5 of them a day? I drink at least 24 oz of Diet Coke a day, often a lot more, and I'm fine, but I understand diet pop can have bad effects on people's weight too. Ultimately I think people are responsible for what they eat but I don't wanna get too filibustery. -
12-team H2H 5-keeper league with two Util spots and owners who all seriously overdraft starting pitching, which I attempted to react to this year by focusing less on my pitching staff and more on lots and lots of power. I was able to read the full text earlier but now it's pulling some subscribery junk on me. So in case you can't see the whole article, the Sox will serve Coke products at the ballpark beginning immediately, and Coke will do a bunch of advertising there. This is fantastic news. Pepsi is bad and Coke is good, and these are indisputable facts. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/201...-run-with-pepsi

Sox win 7-1 tonight, BOOK IT.

Sands and Avi are the same player. Take one or the other. Hope a move is in the works because this is a little odd.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) There was something in the Tribune yesterday. There were like 4 new things. They all looked pretty good. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...otogallery.html Thanks! I missed that, usually they tweet these things out. It's possible I missed that too. Bacon cheddar pretzel dog is just the amount of ridiculousness I expect.

Just realized, we never got the photo dump from the Sox of new food offerings at the park for this year. Guess there's nothing new then?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I just can't get on board with the Chicago pizza snobbery. Sure, if I have a choice, I prefer my local Chicago pizza joints. But if I need a quick inexpensive meal, there's nothing wrong with some Papa John's. We all know even bad pizza tastes good, but by pizza standards, Papa John's is bad. I'd rather have almost any other pizza. For me it has nothing to do with being from Chicago.

How much would you pay to take Panda off of Boston's hands?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) To the Samardzija thread now Was lukewarm on it due to Semien and rental nature. Here, I'll save you further effort. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) Love it, [signing Melky Cabrera] is my favorite move of the offseason. This team didn't have a #2 hitter and now it got the best one available. And I would have been fine with Melky at 4/$60, having to go three years is an early Hannukah miracle. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) It is funny how some people wanted the Sox to sign him a year ago, and now they do not want to touch him with a 10 foot pole. Couldn't remember if I was on record as wanting Panda... QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 3:13 PM) Sandoval, despite being a switch hitter, also has the same platoon disadvantage as Conor. Career-long it isn't nearly as pronounced, but it was pretty severe in 2014. Worth watching, and I don't think he's a good target. He cratered to .197/.234/.231 against lefties in 2015. Phew. I promise I'll do this if I ever think of something I was wrong about. -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) No, see in that example the Bernie Sanders headline would be "Sanders wants to raise taxes" without qualifying that he only means to the rich. After all, that's his policy that's he stated, so why the need for context? That makes no sense. For this to be akin to the Trump example, headlines would need to have read just "Trump wants to punish women" without qualifying for what.

New scoreboard "will change game experience"

Piece on Tribune's site along with a cool feature allowing you to compare every team's video board to Cleveland's, which is the largest. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...-htmlstory.html -
Loney's marginally better than Ishikawa vs RHP. I dunno, I'd rather keep the money for later.
