  1. Sox were 12-18 in Danks starts last year.
  2. I have a dentist appointment during this game. Can't decide if it'll be more or less painful than reading White Sox Twitter during a Danks start.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) Todd Frazier cost Montas, Thompson, & Johnson. No way in hell CarGo costs two top 50 type prospects. Outside of a few select trades (Shelby Miller, Cole Hamel), teams simply aren't giving up high end prospects and definitely not without years of control or limited payroll obligations for the player being acquired. I remember seeing stories over the winter about how out-of-control their ask for CarGo was, though. That's what the price would be, and with the way he's playing I see no reason the Rockies would back off now.
  4. Nah, no need to wait. Danks is better than a 7.94 ERA. Not a stretch to say that.
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 04:58 AM) Is it even close between Rollins and Saladino, defensively? Given his range and arm strength, my guess is that Saladino is significantly better than the aging Rollins. It does not seem close. Rollins' range looks limited from what I've been able to see.
  6. Our physics teacher took the class outside to show us a potato gun, that was pretty cool. If you have a potato gun.
  7. ESPN fires Curt Schilling. Bout time.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) MLB Stat of the Day @MLBStatoftheDay Chris Sale becomes first @WhiteSox pitcher in 11 years to win each of his first four starts to open season. Halfway to Garland.
  9. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 1m1 minute ago Mike Trout reached on a single but tried to advance when Jerry Sands couldn't scoop Todd Frazier's throw and thrown out at 2nd. For those who, like me, aren't watching and can't decipher the "oh s*** that was crazy" posts.
  10. Unless we break this thing open, I would send Sale out for the 8th.
  11. Frazier's wiliness nothing new. I've linked this piece before, maybe multiple times, but it's so good. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-did-tod...ll-those-bases/
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Two walks for Lawrie lol He knew it was unnatural.
  13. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) What is tootblan... Thrown Out On The Bases Like A Nincompoop. Any time you're out on the bases, not counting caught stealing.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) yea but it raises your OBP. Just like getting a hit but getting thrown out going to second raises your AVG but not your OBP. wait, is it really a fielder's choice on a dropped 3rd strike? Huh. Thought for sure it was just an error. This is wrong. Reaching on dropped third is a .000 for your average and OBP. A hit with a TOOTBLAN is a 1.000 for your average and OBP.
  15. Sale has taken your pitch count concerns under consideration.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) It's funny that Harriet Tubman who was born a slave is now on the $20 instead of Andrew Jackson who was a slave owner. I've already seen criticism on twitter because Tubman wasn't a president. I've gone 30 years of my life not realizing that Ben Franklin and Alexander Hamilton were once presidents. Crazy.
  17. Marc SteinVerified account ‏@ESPNSteinLine NBA sources say Tom Thibodeau is closing in on a five-year pact in the $10 million range annually to become coach/president of the Wolves. Rooting for him.
  18. I was out at a bar in Des Moines, IA for a friend's bachelor party during that game. Saw it on TV, was not in a completely coherent state of mind, thought I was dreaming. So for me, it never happened.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) Perhaps I didn't articulate my point very well. Of course, not having Frazier produce would be disastrous. I was trying to revisit the old discussion about "protection" in a lineup, in the context of this team's current struggles. It is not simply the lack of production from Frazier, but the impact it has on Abreu, hitting in front of him. Do you give much credence to the entire notion that it is important for Abreu to have someone batting behind him, whom the opposition respects enough that they won't pitch around him? The assertion made by the article, which I referenced, was that it's irrelevant. For my part, I reject that assertion, and I was citing Abreu's current struggles as an example of how the lack of protection does indeed seem to be very relevant. The poster, who cited the article was very convinced that the author had provided enough statistical evidence to corroborate his hypothesis. It just never seemed logical to me. I recognize that it's a small sample size and that the cause and effect correlation is difficult to determine, but doesn't this seem like an example of the kind of impact that the lack of protection can have on an otherwise good hitter? It seems like an example if you want it to be. You acknowledge the small-sample nature, but I'm not sure you fully appreciate it. This is two weeks of games. That's it. All kinds of variance happens to hitters over the course of two weeks. Here's a good piece on protection that uses statistical studies and interviews of people in the game. You can come up with examples to support the idea of protection, either over the course of a season or in one at-bat, and that's fine. I'm sure the on-deck hitter has affected the outcome of a plate appearance thousands of times. But the collective data shows it doesn't much matter. You can even see it in the specific data for Abreu. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/5/19...-reality-exists EDIT: Realized I left that "specific data for Abreu" remark hanging out there with no explanation. His PITCHf/x data shows that pitchers are throwing in the zone to him about the same percentage of the time this year as ever.
  20. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) OR, the Bulls have made up their mind on who is going to win the Butler/Rose battle long-term, and are laying the ground work in the media for when they trade him. Limit the potential backlash by fans by making him seem like a tool. This is the first thing I thought. Seems fairly obvious.
