QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) The Sox team On Base Percentage is now .278. That is just a few points above Oakland and Tampa Bay, which is last in the League. Last year, the Sox were virtually tied for last in the League, with Minnesota. This is a trend which is not likely to be improved by the additions of Lawrie and Frazier, who own a collective, career OBP of .315. And some think that concerns over this constitute premature, irrational "panic". OK, we'll see. I hope the optimists are correct. They have the payroll flexibility to try to fix this, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anyone available. The most discouraging thing to me is that there isn't one guy in the Minors, who could offer any help. I'd be willing to part with Anderson, if the Sox could fix this glaring weakness. Who could they target in a trade, at this point? The positions that Lawrie and Frazier are sliding into posted OBP's of .266 and .272 last year, so yes, it is a trend which is likely to improve by those additions.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 15, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) Easily the worst, most obnoxious, horrible gimmick in all of baseball. Should be banned. For me it's next to impossible to even have the sound on during a broadcast. I agree with you, I have to watch games in TB on mute when I catch them. Oakland's horn is almost as bad. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) Things got bad soon after. Next day was the thrilling makeup against Detroit that we won. Wife and I purchased playoff tickets that night, if I remember correctly.

Sox bullpen now carrying a 0.90 ERA, best in baseball. Cubs at 0.93 have a chance to move back in front tonight.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 22s23 seconds ago Byron Buxton stayed in after the HBP and stole a base. But he is now out of the game with Max Kepler replacing him in CF. If Buxton misses time, hoo man. Poor Twinkies. -

John Ryan Murphy: Baseball player, or presidential assassin from the 1800's? -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) That is what I am trying to do but not sure if the offer he has given is enough I don't know your league's rules but my gut says you need more, although I don't think you're getting robbed or anything. Not sure about Dickerson post-Coors. Also depends on your goals this year vs. future. You're giving up the best player. I don't know I don't know. Please don't rely on my advice, that's too much pressure.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) How many runs can Latos give up today before he will be referred to as trash that needs to be replaced? Now that we have a run... One. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) I need some advice guys. I am in a 20 team dynasty league and I currently have both Bryant and Harper. I currently have this offer out there for Bryant: Nomar Mazara, Corey Dickerson, and Taijuan Walker for Bryant.. My only LF on my roster is Cespedes on a 1 year deal so Dickerson would give me some more options and replace Bryant's bat unless Mazara is here to stay. My SP consists of: Quintana, Liriano, Wood, Aaron Sanchez, Jake Odorizzi, Garrett Richards, Niese, and Estrada. My 3B would be Frazier at this point. What do you guys think? If I could get good value for Bryant I'd be selling because of that absurd batted ball luck from last year, especially with Frazier backing him up. ... Guy in my league is looking to unload closers. Should I offer Freddie Freeman for Aroldis Chapman (who comes back in early May) or is that an overpay? I don't want to give up on Freeman because his peripherals are fine, but my closing situation is real bad with Perkins' injury and Ken Giles pitching his way out of the saves conversation in Houston. Have Pujols for 1B as well.

Internal alternatives to Avisail Garcia

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) Let's not pretend that Avi hasn't shown flashes in the past to show that maybe we shouldn't write him off at 24 years old. I think people forget how young he still is. He also had a fairly major injury that really hampered his development. From the time the Sox acquired him until his injury he had a .298/.332/.450 slash with 162 game averages of 23 HRs and 81 RBIs over roughly 200 PAs as a 22 year old. Sure he had a bad year last year but I'm not ready to write him off. Last year everyone thought Trayce Thompson was going to be our savior. Apparently everyone forgets that TT is older than Avi and put up an OPS that was 200 points less than what Avi did in AAA. Trayce Thompson is completely beside the point, but he posted a higher walk rate during his career with the Sox than any single month of Avi's, except the one where he played 8 games before falling down and hurting himself. Again, to repeat, the injury that hampered Avi's development happened because he is such a clumsy fielder that he hurt himself. During that flashy .298/.332/.450 stretch, he had a .357 BABIP, a 5.6 K/BB rate, and a 0.1 WAR, because - once more - he is a very bad fielder, and a stupid baserunner to boot. Nobody forgets that he's young, it's the first excuse people make for him. We're also aware of just how far he has to go to be good. If that slash line is the best we can hope for from Avisail Garcia as a hitter, then what are we holding out for exactly? What has he done to make you believe he can sustain hitting like that? In what part of his MLB performance do you see hope? Or was it his ranking as a top-80 prospect in one publication one time that gives you faith? Like seriously, if he was on any other team all this time, nobody would think s*** of him. He'd be just another terrible baseball player. Look at this list. Look at WAR and plate appearances. Very few people in baseball have been as consistently bad as him. What are we holding out for here, I'm genuinely confused. He just isn't good. There are better hills to die on than this. -
