I cherish the Blackout Game. What if Danks doesn't get hurt in 2012 and makes all his starts, instead of Phylan Humbelrod?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I'm probably going to Washington D.C. this summer. Are there any tourist attractions that you guys would recommend (other than the obvious ones)? It's obvious, but absolutely go to the Air and Space Museum. Also go to the Udvar-Hazy Center, which is an additional "wing" of the Air and Space Museum but a little outside of town. It has a space shuttle. The shuttle's real big. It also has the Enola Gay, which is extremely cool for history buffs. These are above and beyond the other attractions to me.

John Danks should never start for the White Sox again

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) The problem with Turner is even if he is 5th starter worthy, chances are you are going to have to replace him at some point during the season. The 9 innings he logged last year would make it difficult IMO to expect him to make 25 more starts. Of course the 5th starter is a guy who gets replaced often with most teams, so maybe no big deal. That is true, and even still Turner might only need to get us through July. -

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) I know people are speculating Miguel Gonzalez back up, but here is the order I'd like to see: Turner Johnson Gonzalez Danks (unless he can put 3-4mph on his fastball, then he's #1 on this list) And no, I don't know enough about options and how that affects my order. I just believe the most in each of those pitchers like that. I'm bad with options and contract status and all that too, but I believe with Turner if they brought him up it would have to be a relatively permanent decision compared to the others, because he could not be sent back down without hitting waivers. Somebody can correct me on my details because I'm sure they're off. I agree with your order on "talent" alone, though. -

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) Since LaRoche money puts us in better position to take on a contract thus paying less in minor league talent, would anyone consider James Shields? He is due about 60 million over the next 3 years, 34 years old , 9 consecutive seasons of 200+ innings and has playoff experience. He would possibly be a 3-4 pitcher allowing Latos to become your 5 which works if you think he is due for regression etc. This team seems to be winning on pitching and defense. Prior to LaRoche retiring, we couldn't add payroll and no way SD would pay all of his money but now maybe we wouldn't have to give as much talent if we took on 10 million a year(SD pays at least half what he is owed on total contract). As he ages, he would slide down the starter slot from a #3 to #5 as younger guys move into the rotation. San Diego would love to get rid of him, but man, his stuff is diminishing rapidly. In two years we'd be talking about him like we talk about John Danks now.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) I guess people buy into the new age stats a lot more than I thought they would. Traditionally MVP's of the leagues have been guys who put up big power numbers with a high or at least decent batting average or pitchers who had outstanding years. If a pitcher is bad no amount of defense can save him (see Danks ) Sale is Sale and Q is Q and good defense from the whole team not just Eaton has contributed to his fine start but it's still mostly Sale. I just don't think great defense alone gets you MVP. I mean give me an OBP above .400, OPS around .800, lots of steals, leading the team in some other categories. If you go 1-4/ 2-5 and make all the routine plays but nothing spectacular which is what happens on most days how valuable is that ? I know I am fighting a losing battle here just like on pitch framing but seriously bWar is not the end all be all . Guys like Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Miquel Cabrera , Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays , guys who contributed defensively and offensively are MVP's not guys like Heyward or Kiermeier. Eaton has made a lot of difficult plays look easy, and some of his throws have, indeed, been spectacular. I imagine our pitchers' ERA's wouldn't look so shiny if some of the running catches Eaton made went for two bases instead. I agree that WAR isn't the end-all, though, which is why my pick is Quintana. I could pick Sale too, but he's supposed to be this good. Q seems to be ascending to another level right now. He hasn't given up a single homer (!!) and while that is probably gonna change, he's been limiting longballs for long enough now that it seems to be one of his hallmarks.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 2, 2016 -> 07:58 PM) They're all going to be difficult. The only easy marks on the schedule are Twins and Braves. QUOTE (aryzner @ May 2, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) The American League in general is not easy, in my opinion. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:41 PM) The NL is outscoring the AL so far this year but I think that's because the good teams are fattening up on the dregs. The Sox won't be playing very many bottom feeders like the Braves , Brewers, Padres and Reds unless Houston and the Twinkies keep playing so much different than they did last year. Yep, there aren't gonna be a lot of peaceful weeks on the schedule. Too bad we aren't in the cupcake league.

Shelby Miller is averaging fewer than 4 innings per start, has a 1:1 K/BB ratio, and boasts an 8.49 ERA. That trade has the potential to be the most lopsided in decades. It's exciting.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 2, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight.com has gotten into the playoff odds business. Through games of May 1, they have the Sox as the 8th best team in MLB, 3rd best in the AL, and best in the division, giving them a 66% chance of making the playoffs, 47% to win the division, and 6% to win the World Series. They also put odds on upcoming games. They take each team's rating and then adjust for starting pitcher and location. For this week: Quintana 55% vs Wright Danks 46% vs Buchholz Rodon 54% vs Owens Latos 59% vs Duffey Sale 66% vs Nolaso Quintana 66% vs Berrios I love baseball. It is my favorite sport, and nothing else is close. But Danks/Buchholz might be an unwatchable game.

I've now read approximately 950 defenses of Hawk proclaiming "PEOPLE DON'T LIKE HIM BECAUSE HE IS A HOMER BUT THAT IS WHY I LIKE HIM" since the last time I saw somebody complaining about him being a homer. Let me tell ya folks, there are plenty of other reasons he's no longer good at his job. Him cheering for the Good Guys isn't even a factor.

I feel like this isn't the first time Sale has done this. Somebody help me out?

Also, I know we discussed this plenty in the game thread, but it can't be emphasized enough. Gerry Davis just vomited out an all-time bad performance by a home plate ump.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 1, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) FanSided had a list of trades that all MLB teams should make. Sox: Avi, Leury and Danish for CarGo. I laughed when my friend read that one to me. I agree, the Sox should definitely make that trade.

Sox fans are discussing potential playoff opponents, and it doesn't seem completely ridiculous.

Accurate stat: Jake Petricka has actually not thrown a single strike this year. Look it up.
