  1. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Its not hard at all. Go to the plate and take pitch one. If it is a ball take pitch two as well. If that is a ball you have him cornered. If pitch two is a strike you only swing at pitch 3 if it is a fastball. I agree with what Hawk said completely. You have to have a plan going against a junk ball thrower. I agree, it's pretty simple to hit MLB pitching.
  2. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Let's do the impossible!
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) Whole game has been a bunch of at bats without much of a game plan. Can't really blame them against the relievers, but the approach vs Nova was bad. Yeah, way too many harmless grounders off Nova.
  4. So what happened back in the second inning with Q against Headley? I had the TV muted and it looked like Q wanted a new ball but the ump said no. He promptly walked Headley on a bunch of pitches nowhere near their targets and then gave up all those hits. Basically I think he was rattled.
  5. LOL ump is Ricky Bobby. Doesn't know what to do with his hands.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 13, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/731124380248379398 Red Sox Stats ‏@redsoxstats NL baseball ops guy to me: "From what I've heard the White Sox are more than obsessed with Swihart. Tough to find a match there though." more than obsessed with

  8. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 12, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) The strike zone is not determined by the height of the batter. It is the area between the bottom of the knee cap and the middle of the torso while in their stance. If it went strictly by the batter's height a guy like Jeff Bagwell who hit in a crouched stance would have to be swinging at pitches eye level. Today I Learned. Thank you, my mistake. That makes the task a little more complicated, but it could still be done. As Dan Szymborski says here, "One of the common arguments against automatic balls and strikes is that we still can't count on the technology, which is a rather strange argument. We have planes that make thousands of imperceptible course directions accurately and without human contact... Yet somehow, in baseball, identifying where a white sphere crosses a white pentagon a couple of feet away is some monumental technological challenge? Poppycock." He's downplaying the challenge a little for humor, but I think we could teach the system not to be fooled by a smaller crouch. Again, MLB will not risk switching to a computerized zone without making sure it is really, really good, as it is a massive change. Even if we couldn't figure this hurdle out, I also think hitters would rather repeat the stance they are used to than completely change their approach at the plate just to shorten the zone.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 11, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) Couldn't a batter theoretically defeat a technology that calls pitches by making his strike zone smaller by crouching more every at bat ? Ricky Henderson walked a lot because not only did he have a good eye but he also made himself smaller. So then theoretically could not a team of small folks make a mockery of the game just by standing there and basically dare the pitcher to throw the ball into a very small strike zone ? The 1st question I asked is serious. The one about little people not so much. I would think the technology would be less likely to be fooled by crouching than an umpire. Tell the system the batter's height before each AB, height of the zone remains static, problem solved. For the second question, Bill Veeck would commend you.
  10. Machado would be the runaway MVP if voting took place today.
  11. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 12, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) Bastion was nerfed before the open beta. I didn't play a LOT, but I didn't notice him being a problem. He can put out a lot of damage fast, but he also dies quickly (and is immobile). He's much less of a problem when people have mics and can communicate where he is. This is true - he isn't an option in high level games and he has a lot of counters (Genji, Reaper, Pharah, Roadhog, even Symmetra can at least move him). But in pubs he was too disruptive, and the problem is the skill ceiling is so low with him. If I stroll around a corner and get taken out by Widowmaker, fine, she had to aim and probably headshot me to get that kill. If there's a Bastion sitting there holding left mouse, it's another story. Torbjorn is a much more interesting hero for that role because you have to think carefully about where you want to place his turret, and then level it up Didn't ruin the game for me though, not even close.
  12. Tomorrow's gonna be one of those tough off days.
  13. Dyson has the 3rd-highest GB% of all relievers since 2013.
  14. I mean like I said earlier, there must be some info we don't have. As much as some of us hate Robin, he wouldn't put Carroll in here if he didn't have to.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 11, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Carroll out there in a 1 run game is some bad managing, even if he doesn't give up any runs. He's probably not even on the team in an hour. Yeah I'm not so sure about this one. Robin must really be trying to give guys a rest.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 11, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) How is that possible? I dunno, maybe he hurt himself.
