  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Reddick would be a good get. At least you get one more year of control out of him and he clearly would be a massive upgrade. I also presume he'd be pretty expensive. Yeah you'd really have to be going for it to go after him. He'd take a package a step above Bruce's and two steps above Cargo's.
  2. We'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge!
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) It's amusing that for the last week the talk about the White Sox has been as if Rick Hahn didn't even exist. Like he's lower than Jed Hoyer now and there's no pretending he's calling the shots anymore. All of these NL names like Puig, CarGo, Bruce, Kemp, Carlos Gomez keep coming up...isn't there an AL version of those names? Still think if you're going to take the risk of hamstringing our future payrolls you need to find players who can defend as well as hit...there's not thing worse than a bad contract on a veteran (see Hanley Ramirez) who can't at least offset his hitting with solid defense. Josh Reddick comes to mind. In general there aren't as many because of how many AL teams are still in the race.
  4. But as far as whether the Sox could legally make him a QO, I think they could. Once his current contract was bought out, he'd just be a pending free agent who spent the previous season with the team, and that makes him eligible for a QO. Right?
  5. Kemp is in the conversation of worst fielder in baseball. He is one guy who might not be an improvement over Avi
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) So happy we don't have to face Buchholz. Because he's good or because the game would take forever?
  7. McCutchen singled to right, Ishikawa scored, Decker to second, Decker to third McCutchen to second on throwing error by right fielder Rosario.McCutchen and Decker scored on error by third baseman Núñez.
  8. Pirates have grabbed a 4-3 lead on a little #WILDPITCHOFFENSE.
  9. Often when my wife or I are surfing Facebook or Twitter and see someone link to something very stupid with no reason to exist, we say to each other, "There are too many websites." This falls into that category.
  10. Feels super weird to be scoreboard watching, but holy **** here I am.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) You had obviously read the same piece I had. This is why I have said I won't just DFA LaRoche. While I don't know if he'll be able to produce and get through the injury this year, I still think theirs a solid shot that he'll be a productive player for the club next year. I'd also be willing to bet that his dropoff has been more related to injury than anything else. The media has probably under reported that - the Herm interview was an exclusive for SSS and for some reason nobody else has noticed that key piece of information. Unless there are other articles out there, in which case I'm completely wrong.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Why his hand? Where did you get that from? Very bottom of this Herm Schneider interview recap. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/7/8/89104...-up-on-injuries
  13. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) I don't think the gap is that big. CarGo is only 1.5 years older than Bruce, has a better stats both this year and career wise (insert Coors caveat here), is considered a better defender, would come cheaper prospect-wise and is signed longer term. That's because CarGo comes with an onerous contract and the dueling red flags of injury history and away splits. I just get a bad feeling. Regarding contracts, I believe they're both under control through 2017, but Bruce is about 13 million cheaper for the remainder of their deals and his 2017 season is under a team option with a $1M buyout. There's a lot less risk with him. If we're talking defense, well either one is replacing Avi so they won't be a downgrade.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) I'd be down with Bruce, he's only really had one bad year. Just please don't give up Anderson to get him. I won't pretend to know what it would cost but I'd hope not Anderson as well. I don't know the state of their system either, but the Reds do have a solid SS in Cozart already.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) Maybe the Marlins forced them to eat Morse's contract in order to get Latos? He could be a DFA special soon, LA is made of money. That or it signals another deal on the way.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) I realize he's still kind of a lottery ticket, but nothing about "aging, oft-injured outfielder from hitters park in NL" screams "This will work out for white sox!" This this this.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) *throws tomato at your face* Bruce is a good hitter. Not overpaid. Would not just be a gamble for this season but would help the next two. He'd be worth the talent we would give up. This Carlos Gonzalez talk from people, now that has disaster written all over it.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:37 AM) Mods, please ban this idiot. Dude isn't going to last another day the way he's going, so might as well put him down now and allow for more quality discussion. +1
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) Suddenly the Sox and Rays have a big series against each other next week. Should be: Odorizzi vs Quintana Archer vs Sale Ramirez vs Rodon Bringin' the hip, modern references today.
  20. Bill Shaikin ‏@BillShaikin 35m35 minutes ago Hall of Fame decides BBWAA members more than 10 years removed from actively covering the game can no longer vote for Hall of Fame. Hard to see this as anything but good news.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) Yeah, that's a key. Teams shouldn't flip their sh** just because their mediocre team has a chance at the playoffs. There will be times now where teams "technically" still in the race decide to ease off the accelerator. That being said, the Sox could go a lot of ways this year. If they find a can't-pass-up package for Samardzija, they should take it. But if they find an intriguing deal that upgrades the offense beyond this year, they should consider that too, even if it requires prospects being traded. That would help them nominally compete in 2015 and more significantly compete in '16 and '17. A really cheap rental for just the rest of 2015 wouldn't do much damage either. There are a lot of ways to go! Jay Bruce continues to make a lot of sense in that context. It would mean one of Avi or LaRoche losing PA's but that doesn't exactly break my heart.
  22. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) Here's the other point --if you believe they're in it, then Shark still should go to bolster the roster with an additional bat. Don't forget the misery and embarrassment of this offense because of one week. That's my concern, here. Shark shouldn't even be here now, let alone at the deadline. He wont be a part of our future past this season, and if forsaking him for an everyday offensive player meant risking the remainder of this season with Johnson id accept it. That's pretty tough to argue with.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Not going to argue the merits of going for it vs. not going for it, because I can see both sides. But the bolded is simply not true in baseball anymore. With the second Wildcard in place now, you pretty much have a shot at the playoffs just about every year if you are trying — and, if this team is any proof, even if you have an abysmal start to the season. With the theoretical chance always there in this era, I think teams will have to be more discerning about their go for it/don't go for it midseason decisions. Well said. I'm also not sure about the quality of this particular chance at the playoffs. This is a steep uphill climb and no prospects should be mortgaged for that. Also, regarding Upton, he stopped hitting as soon as the calendar flipped to June. If you don't think LaRoche can get his act together, then Upton's no solution either.
