QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) MLB just needs to end the Coors Field/Denver experiment. When the Mets are looking like the '27 Yankees, something's not right. The Mets have been hot for a while now to be fair. .804 OPS the last 30 days.

Yeah but before that I bet it was like 30 years.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) I'd be willing to bet you it's at least 45 years that the Sox have been swept two four game series in a season. It happened three times in 2013, all courtesy of Cleveland. 6-28 thru 6-30 at home, 7-29 thru 8-1 away, 9-12 thru 9-15 home. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/...=2013&t=CHA

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) Couple of questions... What's a solid metric for evaluating team pitching, FIP? xFIP? WAR? Also, the Sox WAR for team batting, 1.5. Is that historically low? Seems like quite a jump to the next team, PHI with 6.0 WAR is pretty good. FIP is okay but it isn't park or league adjusted, so parks with extreme effects on homers can mess with it, and it makes no acknowledgement that the Dodgers staff faces a pitcher 2 or 3 times a game while the Sox face a DH. FIP- tries to address that, where 100 is average and lower numbers are better. I don't like xFIP that much in general. The Sox are on pace for about 2.1 offensive WAR, which would be higher than 75 teams since 1900. That's roughly the bottom 3 percent, so it's really low. Whether it's "historically" low is up to your interpretation of the word. It would be the lowest total for a White Sox team; I'd say that qualifies as historic. Like every other stat, WAR isn't perfect, so a guy with 3.0 WAR isn't automatically having a better season than a guy with 2.9 WAR, just as a guy with 100 RBI's isn't necessarily a better run producer than a guy with 95. It's helpful to divide guys/teams into tiers - "oh, here are the teams with 20+ WAR, here's 15-19, etc" - and then make your own judgments based on other information.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) I love how Hawk combines Gio's offensive stats with flowers' to say "Our catchers aren't the problem." ...I see nothing wrong with Hawk's statement.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) Which is a lot lower than the .891 of 2014 or .791 of 2013. Just for the record because I was curious, if LaRoche had a .791 OPS against righties, his overall OPS would be .702, he'd have about -0.5 WAR, and people would probably still hate him. If he had an .891 OPS against righties, his total would be .779, he'd have about 1.0 WAR, and he'd be solid.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) I think 2k5 is on the right track. I think the Sox know he doesn't have what it takes "between the ears" as Hawk says. Sox don't trust him and don't want to expose him. He's trade material this offseason is my bet. My thoughts exactly.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) His OPS against righties is still .700 on this season. Which is a lot lower than the .891 of 2014 or .791 of 2013.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) From Dave Cameron's Fangraphs chat today: If Puig does e moved this winter what type of package would he get? And what are some likely landing spots? Dave Cameron: My guess is that the Dodgers will use him to land a different MLB player (or players) they like. I don’t see him getting moved for prospects, but I could see them trying to use him to go get another young cost-controlled SP. Maybe they offer him to the White Sox for Quintana and something? Cameron is a pretty well connected guy. This may just be throwing s*** at the wall to see if it sticks, but there seems to be a little smoke here in regards to a Puig for Quintana swap. Is he? Maybe, but I've never known him as somebody who breaks trades or anything. I think he's just speculating.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) Boni got DFA'ed which was correct call. It's time to cut ties with Beckham forever. Gordon just can't cut it. Time to forget about Gordo forever. Micah can't do any worse in the backup role. This roster needs Gordon Beckham because he can play around the infield, and he's the only guy on the bench who can do that. I'm gonna go stare into a corner and contemplate my existence now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 07:58 AM) Adam Eaton graded out as a plus CF last year and a negative CF this year. As of right now, his track record isn't consistently bad enough that I'm ready to move him out of the CF spot. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Advanced fielding stats currently take ab out three years of data before they are reliably predictive. Also, at least last year, there was significant disagreement between UZR and DRS, with the latter grading him out as above average. Right now, I think he most likely grades out as "just fine" defensively. He's not a problem out there, and he's hitting well, so we should just leave it alone. Correct. Eaton appears to be a capable enough center fielder. If you have a guy who can be described that way, you let him play center. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 07:57 AM) Eaton sucks, Avi sucks, Melky is horrible defensively, Saladino is a utility guy, Alexei should be in a retirement home, Sanchez is a utility guy on a good team, Abreu needs to be a DH, LaRoche and Flowers should be selling insurance. Why when the White Sox lose is it almost always on the coaches and manager? Take a bunch of things that dozens of distinct people have said, aggregate them all as if they represent the giant stupid collective opinion, somehow defend Robin in a thread that had nothing to do with him. You could give me a thousand tries and I'd never guess this was a Dick Allen post.

The Sox should maybe trade for Hanley Ramirez
shysocks replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've always hated Hanley so I'm automatically opposed to this. The Red Sox would get laughed off the phone if they asked for Q, by the way. Hanley is obviously a good hitter but he's so up-and-down, and such a malcontent, that this is the sort of thing I know wouldn't work out (I don't literally know it, but it's just got bad vibes). Plus he hasn't played third since 2012 and we don't know if he still can. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) You have to bear in mind with Eaton that last season he put up a 110 wRC+ against lefties. Good point. It's tough to draw conclusions from season-to-season platoon splits. Eaton's 53 wRC+ right now against lefties is based on 125 PA's. His first 125 total PA's this season resulted in .226/.288/.304 and we know he's rebounded from that. Put blatantly: 125 PA's aren't that many. But LaRoche's lefty splits had been declining for three solid years, if I recall.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) You can make it sound like the Sox face3 95% LHP, but it is simply not true. If LaRoche was hitting RHP like normal, he wouldn't be getting booed at USCF. The fact is 80% of the time, right handed pitchers are on the mound. Look what the other Adam with the White Sox is doing in about 30 more PA vs. LHP, and leading off. Why isn't it ever mentioned how his lack of hitting vs. LHP is killing the White Sox? A .561 OPS against lefties (Eaton) is a lot better than a .405 (LaRoche). But mostly I agree with you - LaRoche would be a lot more palatable to people if he were still capably hitting righties.

QUOTE (daggins @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) He is tied for the AL lead in WAR with 20 less innings than Kluber. He leads the majors in K's. He is having the best season of his young, stellar career so far. He has a very good shot at the Cy Young. It just depends on how much you can count on the voters to ignore a higher ERA. Last season they showed some aptitude when they gave it to Kluber instead of Felix, but I wonder if that had more to do with "Ooh 18 wins!!" than anything else. We all know Sale is a stud, but the 3.32 ERA is a barrier and he's probably not gonna lead the AL in wins. Keuchel probably gets it if the season ends today.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) You have to wonder. If we had Madden are the Sox 19 over and the Cubs five under .500? Maybe. Yes. Without a doubt.

QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 06:44 AM) Is that comp pick worth more than what we gave up to the A's though? No. Seems like it's worth more than what a team would have given us at the deadline though.

8-14-15 Cubs vs Sox 3:10CDT (Hendricks vs Samardzija)

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Well guys, if the offense scores 5 runs, that should be enough to win games. Samardzija is a little c*** and I hope no one signs his punk ass in the off season. He was throwing BP all day like he owed his cub buddies a shot at a 2nd wildcard. f*** HIM! Whoa. Too much. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) Not me a Sox win and a Cub loss is a great day to me. I hope the Cubs never win the World Series. Amen dude. Cubs fans were insufferable to me when I was a teenager and that has not changed in adulthood. I wish only sports sadness upon them.
