  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Saladino will be around next year, too. I don't see any harm in giving Alexei a chance to bounce back/rebuild some value. As it is, a trade at this point would probably be a salary dump anyway. If he's this bad next year, he can be DFA'd or dumped for Saladino. Like I said in the article, it's certainly possible there's something the numbers are totally missing, but from what I c an tell, betting on a bounceback here makes a ton of sense. Might not happen, but it looks more likely than most of the other lottery tickets we see. The question is, a bounceback to what? Right now the 2014 power output is the aberration and his peripherals most resemble 2013 Alexei, except it seems to me he's making a lot more weak contact. 2013 Alexei without the plus defense seems like a bad guy to spend $10M on when we don't have to.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I really wish we could prove that he's actually good for our pitchers, because he sure looks like he sucks at absolutely everything related to baseball. Since I changed my avatar in celebration of the Tyler Flowers Annual Hot Streak, his wRC+ is 36.
  3. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) It's a shame Robin over achieved in his first year as manager ... He wouldn't be around this year if he didn't. No real point of bringing in someone new/giving Coop or someone else the reigns for the rest of year. Not going to right the ship or fix anything. This year is what it is at this point. Trade Shark, bring up Johnson and Montas and see what you have. Bring back up Micah and see what he's got. Play Tyler and see if he can't be successful. Get rid of people who aren't going to be around next year. Flowers, Beckham, etc Flowers will be around as long as Chris Sale likes him. Folks should get used to it.
  4. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) It's not Eaton's job to hit homeruns. He needs to get on base. I'll take the homers as long as nobody else is doing their jobs.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Schwarber catching and batting 2nd. Nice little 2-3-4 they have with Schwarber, Rizzo and Bryant I picked up Schwarber off waivers in my keeper league, and rejecting all the frantic trade offers from Cub fans in the league since yesterday has been literally my favorite part of this baseball season. /nobodycares
  6. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) Holy hell that was a stellar play https://twitter.com/TheBlogfines/status/622141937529810944 Sorry for Cubs link but it needs to be seen.
  7. Well who could possibly have seen that coming.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) One mediocre start shouldn't hurt his stock very much.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Boom, that ball was killed by Moustakas. 12 pitch at bat then drove it 415 feet. 2-1 bad guys. Every letter of the alphabet was represented in the showdown.
  10. Feel like they just snuck on a re-run of a game from earlier this year and didn't tell anybody.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) and how do you know for sure. are you a soothsayer??? Yes, I'm a soothsayer. Or, I assume most prospects will never succeed in the big leagues.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Thank you for admitting you don't have the answer to a very important question. Again, if the Sox wait until the off season to trade Q there will 29 other team calling Hahn. Q most certainly could fill a few holes at the major league level and bring back some very young minkr league talent with 29 teams willing to take on a pitcher of his caliper and cheap contract. It would be an all out bidding war for Q. No he couldn't.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) now show me how trading for Puig will plug those holes???? i am flipping this to you. Nobody is saying it will. My position is that I would rather get a slam dunk at one position than a bunch of prospects at a few positions. Get the slam dunk, sort out the rest later. Again, to the room, I feel compelled to acknowledge that Q + Danks for Puig is so lopsided in the Sox' favor that it wouldn't happen anyway.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Again, how do the Sox plug those holes after they trade a huge asset like Q away for one player? Seems nobody has an answer for that question. The Sox aren't going to continue dipping into FA. Answer the inverse. Show me a Q trade that plugs them all.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) It seems pretty clear to me that a big part of the problem for us on plays like that is that we're making them too close. If they're close calls and the umps can't tell "when his leg hits the base versus when the tag hits him" the replay isn't going to either and the umps aren't giving the tie on tight plays at 2nd. This is ridiculous. Tell our hitters not to take balls an inch off the plate too - can't just leave it in the umps' hands!
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Great, one hole has been filled. Now the Sox only need to fill 3B, C, SS, 2B and two starting pitchers but hey, they would have Puig. How do the Sox fill those holes now that one of their top assets are gone? You figure it out. You've just saved $14 dumping Danks, that's a start. You're not gonna plug all those holes trading Q on his own anyway. You'll probably get back one very good prospect and some other stuff. Again, a bunch of Maybes.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) You take a kid already at some prospects age with 2 years experience already with success over "prospects that deepen the farm" everyday of the week. Exactly.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) The Sox need hitters throughout the organization so taking one of your top three assets and combining it with your worst asset to get one hitter is a good idea? Meanwhile the Sox as an organization are still devoid of hitters so what do the Sox do to get more hitters? Trade Sale? Come on Sox fans, think this through. Puig for Q and Danks isn't even realistic but it would be a steal. Puig is nearly a match for just Q, and I'd rather have him than a few Maybes. Quality over quantity.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) With no guarantee of extending or signing Samardzija the Sox rotation going into 2016 would be Sale, Rodon who is still working on his command and control, Erik Johnson who has yet to show he can stay in the majors and produce and two open holes. So now the SOX have turned a strength into a weakness for one position player on a team that has many holes to fill. Plus, effectively devaluing Q by including Danks just to get Puig. Again, no thanks. Pass. If the Sox are to shop Q, the off season would be the time to do it where 29 other teams would certainly be ringing Hahn's phone to the point of giving Hahn a migraine. The only pitching the Sox should consider selling at this point is Samardzija and Robertson, that's it. The Sox are likely not contenders so they really are not desperate since there's plenty of time to makes trades between now and ST 2016. Puig is not going to turn the Sox into contenders this year. Come on man, if you can get Puig for Q and Danks you take it and run.
  20. QUOTE (AJUribe @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Vs this battery why run on 0-2? Stupidity is incomprehensible. If you're gonna run, isn't 0-2 the count to do it on? Better chance of a breaking ball.
  21. Cain has been absolutely raking recently.
  22. Colorado would probably be more agreeable to a Danks/CarGo swap than we think. They'd love to save $20 million.
