  1. Palka RF in a platoon with Adam Jones (another former teammate of Machado), Abreu DH, Delmonico dfa'd next April when Eloy comes up.
  2. If the Sox don't offer the most money, I don't think this matters. Now, this type of move matters if say, for example, hes weighing a couple offers and the Sox have the highest bid by say $20m over the Yankees, a team he wants to play for supposedly. Only then does this extra stuff matter.
  3. Does anyone else get the vibe that they won't offer the most money and are trying to persuade in other ways? This kind of stuff just doesn't seem to matter if you won't outbid the next best team.
  4. I don't think it really moves the needle that much, but it doesn't hurt.
  5. Weird...Alonso is a guy I wanted the Sox to trade for a while back when he was blocked by Votto at 1B and when the Reds were actually good. Can't remember who I thought we could trade them.
  6. He was probably due to get more in arbitration and the Tigers didn't want to pay it.
  7. Not giving this source any sort of credit, but I was going to list the Giants as a team possible for Heyward since they would value that OF defense in a spacious ballpark, pretty much where Heyward's value lies. Cubs would probably have to eat at least half. Half the deal would be the Giants paying 5 years, $53m for great corner OF defense.
  8. They tried to sneak him through waivers at a time they thought they could pass him. It's whatever.
  9. FWIW, a former coach of Machado, Bobby Dickerson, "believes Machado would move to third base if an offer to do so was the clear best offer he received in free agency." It was mentioned here with an article: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/manny-machado-rumors-visit-phillies-yankees-bryce-harper-white-sox.html I would think that if Machado wants the most money and the team that offers him the most money wants him to play 3B, that is the team he will pick.
  10. I think it's because they've shown in the past that they will spend. Back when the Phillies were on their competitive run, they were consistently a top 5 salary team, even being top 2 a few years.
  11. He's a free agent after 2020 (according to Baseball Reference). I think he's going to play 3B for them next year now that Beltre has retired.
  12. Orioles are said to be willing to take on salary (as they should be if it helps lead to other young players since they are rebuilding) as they look for OF help. They're totally going to bail the Cubs out of the Chatwood deal (along with Almora or Happ) aren't they?
