QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:29 AM) Horizon: Zero Dawn is fantastic. Right up there with Red Dead Redemption and The Last of Us for single-player console experiences. I've beaten this game like 8 times. Never gets old. Game is beautiful. Hands down my favorite single-player experience (or at least right up there with the earlier RE games).

There's two different dates (I always forget which is considered super two) but the earlier date in the year is where they get the extra year of control (see Kris Byrant) and the other date (around end of May/early June) is when then one of the years is another pre-arb season (see Gregory Polanco being so delayed when he was mashing).

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Agreed. There are more important things to be concerned about than Cody Asche. I agree.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) It's hard to take your complaints seriously when you can't even name one player you'd rather see on the team than Asche. You have yet to even give one name. lol

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) I'm not complaining just to complain, but thank you for your feedback. You seem to admit that he's a warm body, but when I say a different warm body would help us either lose more or win more, you seem to take exception to that. A worse minor league would help us lose more. Do you dispute this? A proven ML free agent would help us win more. Do you dispute this? Since it's the DH position, literally ANY ML free agent who was at the end of his career, or fourth outfielder type, or fifth infielder type, or.....anyone would have been fine. My point is that the the TYPE of player he is is WRONG FOR OUR PARK. Could you please respond to THAT POINT? Thank you. Why throw someone who is young with no MLB experience who may have a chance at being something in the game? Let them play everyday in the minors and let them come up when they are ready/gain another year of control. The other alternatives as I mentioned above would be guys 10 years older. Like I said, with Hayes and Delmonico hitting in the minors, this guy is likely gone by June anyway.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Cody Asche is the exact type of in-between s*** that is an extremely stupid, non-committal way to back into 77 wins this season. If we're trying to lose, throw some dog on the roster. A real dog - some guy who is a never would be, not some guy who vaguely resembles a AAAA player. If we're trying to win, sign someone real, who actually works for the park he plays in, not another Beckham type with zero pop and no defense. I imagine he'll go 3-4 with a couple of doubles in a couple games in May and accidentally win a game or two for us catching the "wrong end" of the variance Then we'll DFA him I guess that's sound baseball strategy Cody Asche is a terrible example of the "in-between s*** that is an extremely stupid, non-committal way to back into 77 wins this season" player we normally get lol like I said, he will help lose if he isn't productive and it seems likely he will suck for us. Just like you said, he resembles a quad-A player. I think you're just complaining to complain at this point. Literally, every rebuilding team makes a move or has a guy like this on their roster at the early stages.

1) so any minor league guy that's not a projected top prospect would be fine Who? Who else deserves these at bats? Mid-30s Ryan Raburn or Jason Bourgeouis? 2) any guy in the minors who is not projected to be a top prospect we don't need to worry about service time This point wasn't about service time... 4) because his major league stats have already shown us what he can do at this level, and there's no upside, and we want to lose, not win, this season, so why would we be worried about window dressing on some "major league caliber" DH Yet you believe Avi can hit 20 homers? A guy with more at bats and about the same age? 5) same as any other guy currently in our system that's not a top prospect Again, who?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) /thread QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I love you. Had to make one last note.
-
Why is Cody Asche on the roster? 1. They need to fill an MLB roster without rushing guys to the majors. 2. Guys in minors need seasoning. 3. Service time on younger guys in minors. 4. He was once a top prospect so why not. 5. He probably won't be on this team come June. 6. If he sucks, he helps lose games in this tanking season.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Thanks. I saw Dave mention it but I didn't think there was any way he'd give a definite answer. He kinda dodged the question and didn't give a direct answer but in a way he did confirm interest in Robert.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Hinted towards them being clearly in the mix while not really mentioning the player by name They literally asked "do you have interest in Luis Robert" lol

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) I do not see the White Sox winning a bidding war for Otani Period. Teams can't get into a "bidding war." Teams will be capped due to new CBA rules. Don't compare this situation to a Tanaka or Abreu signing. It's not the same as trying to sign a non-amateur international free agent. The most a team can give him right now is what, $10 mill? And Hahn said in that redline radio interview that a team would face scrutiny and be punished if he signed a big deal after only a year or two of MLB service.
-
Yeah I can take a 30% k rate. All that matters is what he does in his other at bats. Is he raking in those at bats? Is he making outs consistently?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I will go into the fetal position and cry for a month if Glasnow is the headliner in a Quintana trade. I don't think it will be and I see a deal with Pittsburgh very unlikely (as I've been saying since the very first rumor). I'm thinking Houston eventually ponies up.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) Starting with how he got his manager for one. Maddon opted out from Tampa Bay. He certaintly bent the rules on that one.
-
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) I suppose maybe Saladino plays (backup) third/utility infielder when Moncada comes up and maybe Asche goes down then? I'd bank on Sanchez or Leury getting dfa'd.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Could happen. I wouldn't be making the same bet with other people if I were you though. You need to go study up on draft history and how teams think before making blanket statements. If Seth Beer were named Eric Martin, there wouldn't be Sox fans wanting to tank for him. There's a chance that the Sox get a better player at #11 this year than Beer will even end up being but nobody is talking about the 2017 draft due to a catchy hashtag. 100% true.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) I would bet any amount of money that Beer would be a top 15 pick in the 2018 draft as of today. Done. How much?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) This is an Ozzie Sunday lineup if I've ever seen one. The bottom of this lineup is a black hole At least it's a nice day at the park today To be fair, on opening day the bottom 4 looked like a blackhole.

Says they have the minors and also players on the big league roster to entice This is what I've wanted. Keep winning Rockies.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) Here is what I hope for going forward: AL East: Red Sox struggle and Yankees perform well. This allows Cashman to justify aelling the farm. Rays doing well prevents them from selling off. AL Central: Tigers stay in the race, dont sell off Verlander or Zimmerman. AL West: Houston struggles, pitching implodes. Angels overperform and Texas gets its s*** together. NL East: Braves, Phillies and Marlins to win games and not challenge us for a higher pick. NL Central: Pirates challenge for a WC spot. Brewers and Reds to win games so we get a higher pick. NL West: Rockies tear it up. Padres get lucky on a lot of games. For the Sox, I want our guys to perform well. Also, closer/bullpen implosions around the league.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) They're probably going to be forced to replace May first...pretty clear he's not ready and getting thrown to the wolves. If Raburn comes up and replaces him, who starts in CF and who is the backup? I know you're not suggesting Raburn but if they really wanted to call him up soon is the scenario I'm giving.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) freidman (sp?) said in an interview the other day that he doesn't consider a starting staff to be 6 or 7 pitchers he looks at 9 to 10 with injuries and fatigue. And thats great and all but have you seen that division? They don't really need a ton of depth to win the division. I'd honestly have no faith in any of those guys past Kershaw in the post season.

QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) I don't think a blister is going to be the reason they trade Bellinger and others. Blister was a recurring issue a lot of last year for him.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) It's actually entirely likely that the earth and humanity suffers an extinction-level event at some point in the near future. Between climate change and superviruses that are adapting to all of our medications? Yeah. Totally feasible. Am I concerned? Nope. Nothing I can do about it, so why be concerned? Zombie apocalypse...totally going to happen.
