POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Yea I'm at work and it's a very stressful day, was very much hoping to watch some Sox baseball. The way I'm seeing it, the longer the delay the better. I get home from the city at around 5:30. The longer the delay=longer I'll be able to watch. -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Tarp still on the infield. No rain. Has barely been drizzling since 3pm. Remember this when the game gets delayed in the 5th I thought someone above said the tarp came off? -
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Comcast sports net chicago is on slingtv now...along with Fox sports 1, nbc sports, nfl tv, and more if you get the $5 sports add on. And tomorrow, t mobile customers can get a year of mlb tv again. Sports is no longer a struggle for me since cutting the cord. In fact, it's now perfect for my viewing habits. Perfect.I just purchased an Amazon Fire Stick. My brother has one and has the Kodi app where you can watch every TV show on any channel and any movie including ones in theaters so once I get the fire stick, I'm cancelling Hulu and Netflix as it is unnecessary with the $40 firestick. I only really have cable for sports now.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Garcia had a hilarious moment in RF on Saturday where he tracked a foul ball and just straight up missed it, it hit off his glove and went fair. Luckly called foul correctly. If you touch a foul ball in foul territory and the ball lands fair, how is that not fair? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Opening day/home opener is always fun (except for 2015). If you can get off work you should do it. Me and a few guys from the office are thinking about leaving early. Depends on if they are dicks and make me put in PTO for it. I'd rather just leave here at 2:00, take the train to get there like 30 mins before the game and just stay late/come in early rest of the week. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) Alright, I've passed wanting to see game canceled. Grabbed cheap stadium club passes last week and glad I did. Nice refuge for my wife and kid if its unbearable. Tickets are as low as $6 currently...really tempted to go. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) It's my preemptive strike against people that don't know the difference between a postponement and a cancellation. Yeah the people who say a game is cancelled for the most part sound stupid. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) I'm forgetting the name of that catcher we were all talking about a month or so ago the Sox could have gotten. There were some bats available in free agency. s*** the Royals added Soler for nothing. Not really "for nothing."

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) OK I know nothing about baseball. You tell me that the team I'm about to describe isn't a contender AFTER our trades. 1B-Abreu (star). 2B - Saladino (Moncada in May, star). SS - Anderson (budding star). 3B - Frazier (good defense; great power just like Abreu). When Moncada comes up, Saladino super infield sub. OF - Melky (serviceable); RF - Avi (still has a chance of excelling). CF - May (awful, maybe a free agent aquisition for outfield if our organization would fricking pay pay pay). DH - Coulda acquired one in offseason for $$. Catcher-Coulda signed a free agent to go with Narvaez for $$ Bullpen - Robertson closer (good). Setup guys - Hit or miss, coulda acquired one for $$ to add to the setup crew. Starters: Q, Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland. (Once one of the guys we got from the Nats is ready to fill in, not half bad). So how dumb am I? I contend our team could have been a contender this season even with the trades. Without the trades, even more a contender with Sale and Eaton. But it would have required spending a little bit of fricking cash for an outfielder, a DH and a catcher. Excuse me for thinking a big city team might wanna spend some cash in free agency. Who should we have spent money on to make this team a no-doubt contender?

Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) My vote goes to melky I think. That's interesting and I kinda like it. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) Why is this game not on MLB.TV? Is there a television crew even there? MLBtv can't just decide to stream it if it's not even being filmed haha

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) Half of the roster is worthless. Maybe you find someone slightly less worthless to replace them with. Basically.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Sure but who are you sacrificing off the roster? Depends.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) It was at 38. Drop Liriano and Soto (pitcher), moves it to 36. Add Asche, Geo Soto (Catcher) and Swarzak should put it at 39. So room for a possible waiver add.
-
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin now Rymer Liriano and Giovanni Soto cleared waivers and have been outrughted to Triple-A Charlotte How much room did we need to create on the 40? Is there enough room to scoop someone up on waivers?

I voted 68-71 wins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) If you are looking for tickets to this, stubhub has tickets as low as $15. Wow... I'd definitely be on board to go if it was on a Friday again. Would be a good start to a 2 and a half day weekend. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Counter point: The youngsters start coming up and the huge FA class hits. Quintana leads your staff of Q, Rodon and any three of Giolito/Lopez/Fulmer and possibly even Kopech or Hansen. Suddenly you might even be able to flip some of the young pitching. Q is definitely a leader in the clubhouse and could easily fill this team's Lester role. I think the upcoming draft, Robert and returns for Frazier/Nelly/Robertson will ultimately decide Q's fate if no team blows them away. Your strategy is to hold onto Q for 4 years and bank on guys in the upcoming draft and Robert to be immediate impact players in that time?
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) I think our best trade chip other than Q is Jones. He could get us a nice package this summer. Frazier and I assume he meant Melky aren't going to bring back big returns. Robertson has a chance to bring something useful back.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) I think I can honestly say that I have way more of a connection with Q than I ever did with Sale. In this past month I have definitely had moments of seriously wanting to not trade Q at all and figure out this rebuild with Q as the centerpiece of the future. Today is one of them days that I am totally down with that. So we only keep him for 1, maybe 2 years of being good? Pass. Give me a haul sometime in the next 4 months.
