  1. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) I don't blame Luhnow for balking at the Sox asking price. If he waits until the trade deadline, his trade chips çould be more valuable. His rotation is good enough to get him to the trade deadline and reassess. I also don't blame him for wanting to keep Martes. He and his staff are obviously skilled at talent evaluation. Also other random trade rentals could be available (no, not just the big name soon to be free agents).
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) Was getting extra ABs in a minor league game and got hit in the wrist Ah I did not hear that one. Thanks.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) X-rays on Petricka and Saladino negative
  4. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) I keep forgetting to ask, but I propose we change that 2018 MLB Draft thread to Seth Beer thread with 2018 draft as the sub-headline. Then we can change it again in June to general 2018 Draft thread. Lol
  5. Last post on MLBTR mentions it is cash considerations or a PTBNL.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 11:03 PM) lol...geezus...beer snobs at a baseball game....mkay. Honestly...I couldn't give two craps what a venue has for the beers when I get there as long as it's COLD! Bud Light...Lite...Coors Light...bfd...you're there to watch baseball...not lift your little pinky fingers while you watch as you sip beer out of your Solo plastic cup and swoosh it around your palette to right a review! write*
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Luebke optioned, so he's out. Only going to go with 1 lefty? I'm going with Swarzak then.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) Considering he fell off the FutureSox list, any signs of production from May should be a bonus. So let's just sit back and see what happens. Agreed. Need to watch for something this season while the bigger guys are in the minors.
  9. Doubt anyone is following the first page anymore, so I'll post my updated predictions here. Catchers: Narvaez, Soto Infield: Abreu, Saladino, Frazier, Anderson, Sanchez (out of options), Davidson (out of options). Outfield: Cabrera, Liriano, A. Garcia, L. Garcia (also IF), Asche (also time at 1B and possibly 3B if needed). 1. Anderson SS 2. Saladino 2B 3. Abreu 1B 4. Cabrera LF 5. Frazier 3B 6. A. Garcia RF 7. Asche/Davidson DH 8. Narvaez C (Soto against lefties) 9. L. Garcia (May comes up early) Bench: Soto/Narvaez C Sanchez IF Davidson/Asche Liriano OF Starting Rotation: Quintana Shields Holland Gonzalez Covey (he can thank the Rodon injury) Bullpen: MR Swarzak MR Ynoa MR Petricka MR Putnam SU Jennings SU Jones CL Robertson They keep all out-options guys in this scenario.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Then who is the 4th OF? Liriano I guess. When they first signed him, didn't they say he has the tools to play a decent CF? I'm sure he could be backup for a little while if we needed him in an emergency.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) Why didn't they sign him before Spring Training started then? I wouldn't pay anything for Bourjos, even if it is just money. He's mediocre at best and I don't know how the Rays don't have a minor leaguer they could've given an opportunity to instead of him. I think injuries happened. Rasmus is expected to start the season on the dl and they want Mallex Smith to start out in the minors. They only have like 5 right-handed hitters on the roster (2 being behind the plate).
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) Jacob May = Jerry Owens Remember when he was supposed to make the roster in 08 but then got injured in spring training? Next part of the equation is why will replace him and become our next TCQ?
  13. QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) I never knew that there were eligibility rules for American kids. I thought any HS Senior or College Kid of any year was eligible. Found it. I never knew. Players at four-year colleges and universities are eligible three years after first enrolling in such an institution, or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). Junior and community college players are eligible to be drafted at any time. I didn't know either until recently.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) I doubt the cash considerations will cover lunch. His defense has been slipping. He can't hit with power, doesn't hit for average, doesn't make much contact, doesn't get on base, and doesn't steal many bases. He was going to be a mediocre placeholder at best. Yep. I'd rather give the at bats to a kid. Glad May (and even Garcia) had some great springs.
  15. QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Can you help me? Why would Seth Beer not be part of this? Because this is the 2017 draft discussion thread and he is eligible to be drafted next year. There's another thread for the 2018 draft.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) If May somehow defies expectations and produces then the Sox still have him under control for plenty of time. Could always sign him to an early extension? That is getting way way way ahead of ourselves though May is fortunate that we are rebuilding, otherwise he's be stuck in the minors still Plus, speed is his game and if he does manage to stay up for 6 years, his first year of a potential new deal would be his age 31 season. He likely won't get a big deal.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) It could give them a little more space if Robert is cleared pre-June 15. They'll likely have to go over regardless.
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) I was hoping "cash considerations" would be at least a little international bonus pool money I don't think it would matter since it would be for this current period.
  19. QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 07:59 AM) No Seth Beer? He's not in this draft class. 2018. There really shouldn't be any Beer talk in here.
  20. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) Got my tickets for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2! That's gonna be a good one! Listening to the first one's soundtrack as I type this.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) It does seem that way. Teams frequently give career minor leaguers to each other but not so much major leaguers. I would've cut him. The Sox weren't going to cut him. Yet they essentially give him away to Tampa. Why then was he around in the first place? They didn't know Jacon May would have a great spring? Doesn't hurt to have depth. You're just complaining to complain.
  22. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) Damn, wanted at least an A-ball for him. Cash trades are so strange to me. They seem to essentially just be favors. I figured a PTBNL would work but I guess I was wrong haha
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) I'll never, ever, ever understand the Rays. ? They needed a right handed hitting OF. Now thry have one. All it cost is cash.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:28 PM) I now believe Jacob May is your starting CF on Monday Agreed. Or Garcia if they want to see if May keeps hitting in the minors. I have no problem with either.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 12:00 AM) Not sure if it really makes a difference for a fringe prospect like May, but why not keep him in the minors for a couple weeks to get the extra year of control just in case he becomes something in the big leagues? You answered it yourself.
