  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) I'd do Q for Meadows, Glasnow, and Bell. Sign me up. I'll take Meadows, Glasnow, and Newman.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Did you stop and eat at SoDoSoPa? At Kenny's house.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Conforto is much cheaper and under control for longer than Cutch And in this scenario, they also have Quintana.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Other than the fun of idle speculation, I don't see why the complication of a three-way trade is really relevant here. The Pirates have three good to great starting major league OFs, one signed through 2018, one through 2021 and the third through 2023. They can absolutely afford to part with a prospect like Meadows to acquire a starting pitcher of the caliber of Quintana. The match up for a trade makes perfect sense. I think it would also kind of hinge on if the Mets could move Granderson or Bruce. They have a logjam in the OF currently and a three team deal where they move Conforto but acquire McCutchen doesn't help that. It would only give them a "CF" (quotes because personally I don't think he is one anymore but apparently, the Mets do lol).
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) The Pirates are a lot like the White Sox in that they shop at Marshall's not Saks 5th Ave. And when they are mentioned for a big name, like the Sox and big name free agents, at best, they come in second. So until they actually get a Q or someone else, it seems the people who know them best will believe it when they see it, and don't really think it will happen. I've seen a lot of comments like this too from Pirates fans. Like they want them to get Q at all costs but are very skeptical the organization will actually do it. If there was ever a guy to put all your chips on, it would be someone as durable and consistent and cheap as Q.
  6. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) i too like to read other city's sports sections and the comments. seems like all the PIT fans don't think much of Quintana and do NOT want Meadows as a part of any trade from what i've been reading. I've seen the opposite.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Looks like Pirates sports writer's and the fan base really want Huntington to make a Q trade happen. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-i...es/201612220170 Everything I've read out of Pittsburgh has been about wanting them to finally make a move like this.
  8. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) why are the Sox compromising in any Quintana deal, makes no sense. deal him at the deadline if you're not even getting what you want for him. glasnow as a centerpiece? we need position players so badly. How are the Sox compromising? They haven't announced an official trade yet. We don't even really know what the offers they are receiving look like.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) I don't know if it says it's imminent, but perhaps a stamp of approval that it seems to be the case. I don't get the crap Merkin gets, he's a first division beat writer. Hayes is very good too. Doesn't have the 10-15 years of relationships Merkin does but covers the necessary stuff and is a real baseball fanatic. Yeah I don't think it means it's imminent but I think it means that the rumor or report has legs.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Right, but again, people don't make decisions based on need in Colorado. It's all random. They worship chaos and entropy. One of my friends and I were imagining what board meetings are actually like there. His hypothesis is that they have a tank of manatees in the center of the conference room, and that they throw colored balls in and make decisions based on which balls the manatees push toward the front of the tank. "Ohh that's blue, that means Ian Desmond! Ohh it looks like.. wait... oh FIRST BASE! Wow, that was unexpected. Welp, let's see what we're going to offer... Ohh Ten, NO, SEVENTY MILLION! Haha fun! Call his agent" South Park reference for the win haha
  11. QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) Yeah, I forgot about Baez. But Melky would give them some insurance if Heyward still hasn't remembered how to hit. You're right though. Does bring up the idea of possibly adding Melky (plus a lot of cash) to a Q deal to the Pirates if it helps them move Meadows and if they also move McCutchen for prospects in a possible 3-team scenario to help soften the blow to the farm system for dealing for Q.
  12. QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) If we're just throwing trade ideas at the wall: Quintana and Melky with Sox picking up half of Melky's contract for Schwarber, Jimenez and Candelario. But I don't think that's realistic at all. Let's see where the Pirates rumors go and hopefully some names get leaked by either FO. Idk if they really need Melky. If they moved Schwarber, I think Zobrist would just go to left with Baez in at second.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) That's exactly what I had in mind. The cubs FO knows that I'd they were to make a serious play for Q that it would cost them and they know the Sox are in the driver's seat. So Theo, how desperate are you? QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) I'm gonna guess not that desperate. If they were coming off a World Series loss: desperate. I have to agree with bmags.
  14. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) Cardinals and Cubs getting involved to drive up the price for Pittsburgh? If any of that is real, then that is fantastic news for the Sox. I think the Cubs part is his own speculation since they have the pieces.
  15. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) He really fell off a cliff last year. I suppose he could turn it around but that's a guy where I really wouldn't count on it. You pick him up to kind of sweeten the allure of Frazier, not because you actually want him. He did miss the first couple of months of the regular season as well.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) My assumption is this is tailored to being about the Cubs/Cardinals because the only thing Phil Rogers ever talks about is Cubs/Cardinals and Arnie Munoz curveball. LOL
  17. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) Somebody may have already posted this but Phil Rodgers went on MLBN earlier today and said that: 1) The Cardinals have been in contact about Q 2) The Cubs are a dark horse to watch 3) The Sox are supposedly largely looking for bats in a Q trade Did he say that they have actually had contact or just his own speculation because they have the pieces it would take?
  18. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Why do you say Bell is risky? He put up solid numbers since being called ip. I think people just want to acquire a more complete player as opposed to a poor defensive 1B/DH type.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) When you say "just now", you mean two hours ago when it was on the first time. Damn
  20. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Rosenthal on MLBN just now says with the signing of Nova that the Pirates could be more inclined to add Glasnow as a piece to the White Sox. Good. I hope we keep getting tweets and pieces of info throughout the day.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I want a return of the best prospects available, regardless of position We have needs all over the place, and you truly never can have too much pitching. It's amazing to think about what the ceiling on a rotation of: 1) Rodon 2) Glasnow 3) Giolito 4) Kopech 5) Lopez could actually do. Plus we still have high upside arms in Adams, Stephens, Hansen, Fulmer, Burdi and Dunning. A home grown pitching staff like that has the potential to completely dominate even the best lineups, and contend each year Yeah and some guys won't pan out, some guys will be in the pen if they struggle as a starter, or some can be moved for bats. Edit: I wouldn't say that it is "home grown."
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) You almost definitely aren't getting Meadows and Glasnow or Meadows and Bell. I think a realistic package that makes a ton of sense for both teams is Meadows, Newman, Keller and a lotto ticket coming back the White Sox way. This is about what I'm expecting.
  23. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) i hope something happens today. I'm bored at work. Me too. At least my office is closing at 3
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) The White Sox plan is 100% to use Collins as a catcher. They've said as much recently. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. But they'll be patient with him. But I do agree that acquiring another interesting young catcher doesn't hurt. Especially one that is ready, good defensively, and can help these young pitchers develop. Definitely. Especially one you can plug into the MLB lineup right away. Looking at his numbers, he hasn't gotten a fair chance at the MLB Level due to Francisco Cervelli.
  25. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Collins isn't ready yet, is he? And I thought Hahn said he was going to let Moncada develop more in the minors. Yeah. None of those young guys should be on the roster opening day (besides maybe Bell).
