Also logical landing places for Abreu/Frazier/Cabrera

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) He really fell off a cliff last year. I suppose he could turn it around but that's a guy where I really wouldn't count on it. You pick him up to kind of sweeten the allure of Frazier, not because you actually want him. He did miss the first couple of months of the regular season as well. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) My assumption is this is tailored to being about the Cubs/Cardinals because the only thing Phil Rogers ever talks about is Cubs/Cardinals and Arnie Munoz curveball. LOL -

QUOTE (Username @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) Somebody may have already posted this but Phil Rodgers went on MLBN earlier today and said that: 1) The Cardinals have been in contact about Q 2) The Cubs are a dark horse to watch 3) The Sox are supposedly largely looking for bats in a Q trade Did he say that they have actually had contact or just his own speculation because they have the pieces it would take? -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Why do you say Bell is risky? He put up solid numbers since being called ip. I think people just want to acquire a more complete player as opposed to a poor defensive 1B/DH type. -

QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Rosenthal on MLBN just now says with the signing of Nova that the Pirates could be more inclined to add Glasnow as a piece to the White Sox. Good. I hope we keep getting tweets and pieces of info throughout the day. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I want a return of the best prospects available, regardless of position We have needs all over the place, and you truly never can have too much pitching. It's amazing to think about what the ceiling on a rotation of: 1) Rodon 2) Glasnow 3) Giolito 4) Kopech 5) Lopez could actually do. Plus we still have high upside arms in Adams, Stephens, Hansen, Fulmer, Burdi and Dunning. A home grown pitching staff like that has the potential to completely dominate even the best lineups, and contend each year Yeah and some guys won't pan out, some guys will be in the pen if they struggle as a starter, or some can be moved for bats. Edit: I wouldn't say that it is "home grown." -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) You almost definitely aren't getting Meadows and Glasnow or Meadows and Bell. I think a realistic package that makes a ton of sense for both teams is Meadows, Newman, Keller and a lotto ticket coming back the White Sox way. This is about what I'm expecting. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) The White Sox plan is 100% to use Collins as a catcher. They've said as much recently. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. But they'll be patient with him. But I do agree that acquiring another interesting young catcher doesn't hurt. Especially one that is ready, good defensively, and can help these young pitchers develop. Definitely. Especially one you can plug into the MLB lineup right away. Looking at his numbers, he hasn't gotten a fair chance at the MLB Level due to Francisco Cervelli. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Collins isn't ready yet, is he? And I thought Hahn said he was going to let Moncada develop more in the minors. Yeah. None of those young guys should be on the roster opening day (besides maybe Bell). -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) I'm not getting my hopes up because it's so far fetched, but think about this going forward 1 Moncada 2b S 2 Meadows Cf L 3 Abreu DH R 4 Bell 1b S 5 Collins C L With the young arms the Sox already have acquired. Time to quit dreaming. Abreu should be dealt by the time Collins comes up. No way should he sniff the majors next year or even the following year. Edit: also, Tim Anderson -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) The Pirates could easily have decided that 2 years of control on their entire OF has made Meadows expendable and that Quintana is the perfect target for them to pursue with Meadows as a huge chip. Exactly. Plus, if Nova and Quintana continue to pitch good and the season for some reason, isn't going how they planned, they could deal Quintana, Nova, McCutchen, etc. over the next year or two. -

QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) PIT seems to making a legit push. does anyone think the Bucs would part with 2 of the 3 for Quintana? Glasnow Meadows Bell Yes. If they get to pick 2 from those names, I want Glasnow and Meadows. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) My guess is its out in the agentsphere that Pirates are in on Quintana. This reminds me of the Nats so much. Pirates and even the Cards look pretty good to me (especially if Q goes to PIT). Cards just need to stay healthy. That's what really hurt them last year. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Lost in this is the Nova contract is pretty damn good. I saw that and I agree. Only $8 million annually. -
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'd throw in something else w/ Robertson to close any deal for Conforto. I highly doubt the Mets would unload him. They want to unload Granderson or Bruce to open spots in the OF. Looking at their team - they need more help than just a closer... they could really use an Abreu or Frazier with Frazier being the better fit to replace D. Wright/Reyes option they currently have. Maybe throwing in a Lawrie can tip the scales? I'd think not, but he can at least fill in across the infield as necessary and their team needs so help there. How about: Robertson + either Frazier or Abreu We get: Conforto And then one of their top 3-5 prospects --- Gavin Cecchini looks damn good. That leans heavy to the Sox on return though if you're giving up Frazier. Probably more even with Abreu attached, but he is strictly a 1B only and Dominic Smith is probably about a year away and is the exact same -- 1B only. What about Abreu in a deal with Quintana to the Pirates?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'd say Pittsburgh is in the lead but well see if Houston ponies up or if New York is like Boston and tops everyone. Could be wrong, but I have a feeling the Yankees aren't really involved. Probably let the young kids play this year to see what they have going forward, deal Tanaka at the trade deadline or before and get back some solid prospects, and then look to sign 2 arms in free agency next year since it's loaded. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) Again, that's more than they got for Sale. Maybe replace Glasnow with Keller? So it would be Meadows, Keller, Hayes, Diaz. Or what about adding Jennings to the other proposed deal? Cole, Quintana, Nova, Taillon, Glasnow...not too shabby for PIT. -

Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm on pirates.com message board and they're saying they need to make a trade for Q at all costs. One guy said trading Glasnow is ok because Q is in the rotation for almost as long as he would be but Meadows would be a tough loss. Same guy said if Meadows is in the deal, then they would be able to deal McCutchen over the next year or so with Bell could go back to LF with Marte in CF. -

QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) I believe he meant the Pirates, who are very good at developing pitchers. Although, I will say the pirates seem to be better at scouting and developing major league pitching talent, and Glasnow only threw 23 major league innings. Yeah someone pointed out that he got hurt. I would still take him in a deal but I hope we get Meadows back if we have to pick between the 2. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) What does the Nova signing have to do with their chances of getting Q? You guys think Glasnow might be part of a package since they don't need him anymore? Going for it mode. Their rotation looks a lot better with both Nova and Quintana than just one or the other. Or neither. Especially if Nova pitches like he did last year for them.
