  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Yep, he's just 23 years old. Severino is different in that his defensive skills are ahead of his bat which to me is promising. Usually the defense lags behind the bat when it comes to catchers. I know Severino has no power but if he can hit for a decent average he will be a gem to have behind the plate and in the lineup. Come on Rizzo, give it up just once more. Yeah and you don't even need to set the world on fire with the bat to be considered an average hitting catcher.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) I never said Sale was more deserving because of talent. I simply said he is more talented. Obviously there are other requirements that are in Buehrle's favor that work against Sale. Here's some more interesting questions: Will Buehrle be a Hall of Famer? If Sale makes it one day, will he wear a White Sox hat on the plaque? Too soon to tell. He could end up signing a long-term deal with the Red Sox and go in with them. Heck, he may have a couple serious injuries that derail his career trajectory.
  3. Best comment on MLBtr: "With MLB pushing the pace of play issue, you would think they’d be trying to get Buehrle back in the game!" lmao
  4. Back to the topic at hand... I started getting really into baseball pretty much at the beginning of his (and Paulie's) career. I feel like I grew up with them lol makes me feel old seeing them get their numbers retired. So many great memories of Buehrle.
  5. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) The Cubs and Maddux are a good comp for the Sox and Sale. Would the Cubs have retired Maddux's number if he hadn't come back at the end of his career? I would say no. Coming back to the Cubs help get his number of years pitched for the team to 10 and he also got his 300th win and 3,000 k.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Good catch. I knew what you meant lol just needed to point it out.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) And Carlos Quentin was a more talented hitter than Paul Konerko. I think you know whose number will be retired out of those two. Will be? haha
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) I don't want to derail the thread any further but I don't think some of you guys realize how good Sale was. Buehrle had the advantage of being with the team for much longer, having playoff success here, and not being a hot head, but pound for pound I think Sale is way more talented than he ever was. It's not really about talent. We all know how great Sale was lol he's just not worthy of having his number retired. Simple as that.
  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) Absolutely not. Doesn't come close to warrant getting his number retired. Agreed.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) 7+ years on the team, 5X All Star, single season Sox K record aren't accomplishments? Lol ok. 7 years just doesn't seem like enough to be number retired worthy. Just my take on it and I'm sure most will agree.
  11. Mark Buehrle is my favorite Sox pitcher of all time so I will be there.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Good for him. I loved Buehrle. Hope they do the same for Sale at some point. Yeah I don't see it. Wasn't here long enough. Not enough accomplishments either.
  13. HOF'r Tim Raines on The Score at 10:40.
  14. I get the positives of him being injured, but we need him healthy and producing to trade him away for other controllable pieces.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) I truly hope you are right. While I do love the trade from our standpoint, the three arms are obviously question marks, I don't think it's as one-sided as the media made it out to be. I get Eaton is below average in CF, but I believe Werth is a free agent after this year so Eaton can shift over to left.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) Considering the problems the Sox have had at the catcher position, I would welcome the idea of having too much talent at the position. If for some reason Severino sticks as an everyday catcher, Collins could be moved to 1B. Not like the Sox have any quality 1B prospects anyway and Abreu should be the DH if he's still with the Sox by the time Collins is ready. I'm not saying Collins won't stick at catcher but I'm not going to assume he will either. Passing on Severino because they already have Collins would be a bad idea and judging by the latest rumor, Hahn would agree. If a trade happened before the season started, you'd also have 2 years basically to evaluate Severino.
  17. What an awful beard...if you can call it that.
  18. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) I absolutely love that the other day Renteria canceled the intrasquad games to do more drills on fundamentals. That was after watching them do drills the day before. Maybe he saw how bad they looked? In any case, it drives me crazy when guys make fundamental errors. Physical errors will happen (errors of commission) but I drilled my kids on not having mental errors (or errors of omission). The team never really looked prepared coming out of Spring Training under Robin (last year, I think they put more focus on fundamentals to try to change that though).
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) I'm straddling the fence right now. Half of me says take the trade straight up to get Jones into the closers role now and trade Jones in July. The other half of me thinks the Sox should hold out in hope of Robertson having a good first half to get even more for him in July, then plug Jones into the closers role and trade him for a haul next winter. The latter is more risky but has more potential for a higher return. Glad I'm not Rick Hahn. Jones will still be valuable with 3.5+ years of control left. You can hold onto Robertson for the first few months and trade him. Jones could also be pitching very well and could be moved around then. Or he stays as closer the rest of the season and is moved in the off-season or traded deadline of 2018.
  20. Speigs and Parkins seem to have better chemistry. His "S's" still really piss me off though lol
  21. If the best they can do right now is Severino for Robertson straight up (not saying that is the case but just throwing out there), then wait. It's not like that offer wouldn't be possible in June/July.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) I'd only consider Severino for Robertson if the Nationals ate the entire remaining contract Even then, I don't love the deal and think we should look to get more out of the Nationals Yeah either Robertson (and cash if you have to) for Severino and 2 other pieces or Robertson (eat no money in this deal) for Norris and 3 other pieces (2 position players and a pitcher). I'm just tossing a couple ideas out there.
  23. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Wouldn't this just result in the "unintentional" intentional walk instead? Yes.
  24. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) What they should have done is an IBB equals two bases instead of one. If you really are afraid of someone then they deserve to get to second or just pitch to them. If you want to walk them the regular way you can still pitch around them but it wont be as easy as 4 simple toss outs. Most of the time it isn't that the pitcher is afraid to face someone though. It's usually done to set up a double play and get 2 outs.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) Why do you not? He had a horrible year at 3B and at the plate. The Sox spent all winter trying to trade at 2/3 the price, and literally no one wanted him. Unless both his bat and glove take a large step forward this year, he really isn't worth much. The predictors really don't mean anything here. I agree that he doesn't have a ton of value. I think similar to what we gave up for him at most is what we're looking at. However, I wouldn't say "no one wanted him." There really are no teams that need a 3B (yet) so it's not like teams were signing or trading for other guys instead of Frazier. Dodgers were the only team linked and that was more of an emergency in case they couldn't sign Turner (who had no market at all himself and was never linked to another team).
