  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) His point is well taken, as it was my own, when we were relying on bargain basement guys to play SERIOUS roles on a competitive team. But Fowler actually was a $13 mill contract, was clearly going back to cubs, and cost a 1st round pick. Desmond also cost a 1st round pick. I get what he's saying. This is a good move for a rebuilding team. But to get upset at this signing for this team is kinda ridiculous.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) But Andrew Cashner just signed a contract for 10 million. You want to check his peripherals? You want to know what Ivan Nova's about to get? $6 million is seriously nothing to get worked up about lol I don't understand some posters on here.
  3. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Personally, it's just not in my DNA to ever turn on a White Sox game and somehow hope that they will lose. I don't care what the state of the team or organization is at that time I turn a game on. I want my team to win - always! Agreed. It will just be less disappointing (or not at all) when they do lose.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) I think they should, but what people should really cheer for if they want the Sox to max their draft position is to trade as many of their better players as possible before the games start to count. Hoping to max out on everybody, probably isn't realistic, and they may, if they are maxing out, help you win meaningless games. You can't settle for Q or Abreu or probably Jones. The other short term vets,, if there is anything legit, and the goal is a high pick, you should probably take what you can get. At the very least, you could save their salaries, and spend it on something when you need it. I agree. I don't see guys like Gonzalez, Frazier, and Melky really bringing much back if it is now or in June/July.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) I think there is plenty of evidence that having multiple great shortstops is not a bad thing. Exactly. They're athletic and can transition to another position. Very good problem to have.
  6. Like a few people have said on here, lucky for us, we don't have to root for or against losses; they will just happen regardless.
  7. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I agree...keep him at SS till it's evident he will not play SS at MLB level (for whatever reason). I do think the Sox would prefer Moncada at 2B. For 1, 2nd base has been a revolving door since the days of T. Iguchi! From what I've read, that's his natural position and the move to 3rd was basically because he was MLB ready and Pedroia was still ahead of him. Kind of like the Trea Turner to CF move. Who knows though, athletes of that caliber are capable of playing whatever at a high level with enough reps--so that 3rd base door is still open. Oh I agree he will be at second this season and likely multiple seasons. I was just thinking he may out-grow the position and have to be moved to third base eventually.
  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) None of us know Colorado's willingness to deal Rodgers, but we do know they badly need SP and bullpen help I'd much prefer a package headlined by Rodgers than a Houston package centered around Martes/Tucker. Rodgers has the potential to be a very good player and middle of the order bat (similar to Bregman) Agreed. Rockies seem to be in "go for it" mode with that offense (or at least should be). Maybe they're waiting a Trumbo or Encarnacion signing before focusing on starting. Edit: I never honestly thought of them as an option for Q until they added Desmond.
  9. Not sure if this was posted. Was bored at work and Googled "Jose Quintana rumors" and came up with this article from yesterday. More of the same but oh well. http://houseofhouston.com/2016/12/15/houst...s-top-priority/
  10. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) He won't stay at SS in this organization, though. I'd be looking at him as a future 2B or 3B, depending on where they want Moncada. We don't really know that. If he were to get him, he would be playing SS in the minors for a few years while we figure out where and Anderson and Moncada are best suited for. If those positions are SS and 2B, then great. Rodgers to third then. But ultimately I think Moncada ends up at third personally.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) We have to get you used to DA's sarcastic posts. Every blue moon, they are funny. I know it's sarcasm haha but it's not stopping me from hoping that scenario happens lol
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Robertson was outstanding his final 22 innings of the season, and really seemed to r"right the ship" so to speak He is the best proven closer on the market and has now become a valuable trade chip. Hahn was smart for not tossing him into the Eaton deal The Rockies have more potential to come up with a big package than other teams, as Rodgers is a significantly better prospect right now than Martes or Tucker. I have a feeling we won't see Robertson dealt (unless packaged with Q or someone else) until Ziegler and Holland come off the market. I think those 2 are being coveted by contenders.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) I'd love to get Chance Sisco on the Sox. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 01:01 AM) Love that kid as a prospect. I'm right there with you. What do you think the Orioles would want from us for him? I mean within reason since I don't think they can get Quintana with their spects.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) You'll be able to relive all your post surgery John Danks memories with Derek Holland. Just remember to buy tickets early, he is going to get flipped for a future all star or 2 by the trade deadline. I hope so...worst case scenario is he is awful and helps push us towards the #1 pick in the 2018 draft haha
  15. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Soo.. is Beer the second coming of Bryce Harper? What's all the hype about? QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:28 AM) Nah I wouldn't get too attached to the guy. There is still a year and a half from now until this draft and other players will come along. Plus, as of now, we likely aren't a top 5 draft pick team yet.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Frazier, again, not much of a market for 3rd basemen . He needs to hit for higher average and get his OBP higher. He hits way too many pop ups and struck out way too much. If he can adjust to the AL in his 2nd year he'd be more valuable. I think Frazier would make sense for the Mets since you can't count on David Wright anymore/he should be moved to first anyway. But other than them, I have no idea who wants him.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Sorry if my comment read that way haha. I know we agree I keep reading all this Rockies optimism, and just can't get over the fact that a few moves (Trumbo/Encarnacion + Desmond + Dunn) is not going to take them from 75 to 88+ wins It's all good. They definitely can't count on scoring ten runs every game to win.
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) "Needs Work" is putting it lightly. They had a team ERA of 4.91 in 2016...good for #27th in the mlb, and the mlb worst bullpen at 5.13 ERA If they are serious about contending they would have the Sox on the phone and be talking about a Quintana + Robertson deal You keep keep acting like I'm disagreeing with you based on your comments lol I know their pitching needs help as I've mentioned a bunch throughout this thread. Edit: and I bet if they add one more bat, they will be on the phone with them with an offer that will blow us away.
  19. Blackmon CF LeMahieu 2B Arenado 3B Gonzalez RF Encarnacion 1B Desmond LF Story SS catcher That's pretty lethal. That pitching needs work as mentioned.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Call me crazy, but how does a team with a bottom 5 mlb starting rotation and the worst bullpen in baseball + Mike Dunn make them a contender? Am I the only person not drinking the Rockies cool-aid? That pitching staff won't be able to hang with the Dodgers or Giants to win the division, let alone win a playoff series Yeah idk. They'd definitely have to make a significant add (maybe 2) to each their rotation and bullpen. Hmmm what team is looking to sell just those parts I wonder.
  21. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/c...ntend/95458154/ Article mentions they are talking to Trumbo and Encarnacion. Posted today.
  22. Every time I see someone has posted in this thread, I hope there is a new tweet or rumor with substance and I die a little every time there isn't.
  23. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) The Cardinals make a lot of sense as the third wheel in a trade. They really need another OF, and Blackmon or Cargo would fit perfectly and they could provide pieces that the Sox would value so the Sox would not need to strip away too many of their own prospects. Something like: Cardinals get: Blackmon Rockies get: Reyes and Quintana Sox get: Rodgers, Hoffman, Tapia, Sosa, Kelly Not anymore. Grichuck, Fowler, Piscotty is what they're going with.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Where did he say that? I dont see anything about that on his twitter. I saw a facebook post about it a little bit ago but I think it may be a bit old. I think I do remember reading that after they signed Desmond as well.
  25. According to Bob Nightengale, Rockies are in discussions with Encarnacion and Trumbo.
