  1. Thanks, Bob....this thread needs something new badly.
  2. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Some guys that I would like the team to sign are Greg Holland and Tyson Ross. If the Sox sign them along with Derek Holland, they can flip them at the deadline and clean up assuming that they have productive years. Theo and Jed made a killing making these type of moves Sign those 2, along with Colby Rasmus (Melky or Garcia can DH).
  3. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) If he reaches those incentives he almost assuredly pitching somewhere else by the trade deadline. If not the Sox can say they "tried" and thank him for providing (hopefully) around 130-150 innings. Exactly. We should be hoping he earns that $8 million lol
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Hopefully the incentives are strict, as $8M seems a bit rich. Hope the guarantee is closer to half that. $8 million isn't a lot to this team. Plus, if he reaches the $8 million, he would probably be considered a steal knowing that he reached whatever the incentives are.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Evan Grant reports that Holland can earn up to $8MM if he maxes out his incentives. Damn. I was gonna guess 1/$8m but didn't lol
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) I would have zero interest attending, watching on TV, or listening on the radio to a White Sox game if I didn't want them to win. I get the concept, but people have been cheering for the Bulls, Bears and Sox to lose for years. It gets old. Too gung ho about losses. If it leads to Sean Beer and he's a superstar, and leads the White Sox to the playoffs every year, you can all tell me you got me. But there seems to be a pretty big competition to see who can be the worst team in baseball these days. I was thinking the same thing. I probably won't watch much on TV except for when someone interesting is promoted, we are playing a team who has a player I enjoy seeing play/pitch (Mike Trout as an example), or nothing to do after a long day of work.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) There is going to be an explosion of action fairly soon. There are a lot of teams that have done next to nothing yet. Agreed. If it wasn't for the Sox, the Winter Meetings would have produced nothing. To be a fan of another team, it was probably considered so boring haha
  8. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) I completely agree that they should be moved but I don't see how it's the certainty that everyone here is proclaiming. There is a very real possibility that they enter the season with Q, Frazier, Abreu, etc. still on the roster. Until proven otherwise, it's more likely that they remain on the OD roster than don't. Yeah I understand what you're saying, but a lot of people seem to just want them to trade to make a trade and take best offer (which they may end up having to do, but don't have to now).
  9. Definitely going to feel different going to games than last year (though I never really expected them to win). Now I won't have to see guys like Sale, Eaton and Abreu on one team playing making me disappointed that they can't put a good product around them. Now it'll be something to do on a Friday or Saturday with no expectations enjoying a nice night/day at the park with a hot dog and cold beer in each hand.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) So how does this work? There is another thread that pretty much states we should cheer for losses and the team to suck for the draft pick. So should we cheer for Holland to suck or be a Cy Young candidate? Seems to me, the #1 overall pick is worth more than some measly prospect a team may give you for 2 months of Derek Holland's services. May not matter if he pitches good and the offense continues not showing up.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) My comment was "as currently constructed", meaning no further meaningful subtractions (Q, Frazier, Melky, Abreu, Robertson, etc.). Yeah. We should still be in the top ten pick range, but teams like Reds, Brewers, Phillies, Braves, Padres, A's are still worse than us.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) I would not mind being the worst team in Baseball if it meant we get to draft Seth Beer #1 overall in the 2018 draft He was an absolute stud as a freshman this season at Clemson Yeah hopefully he keeps hitting that way the next 2 seasons and we continue trading off important pieces.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I like it. I have always been a fan of Holland. He was fun to watch pitch a few years back. Don't love that he is such a flyball pitcher, but its a solid move for the backend of the rotation. I hate to say it because I know I will get crucified - but the Sox are currently constructed could still play .500 ball. Could is the key word. I expect further moves, but right now the lineup and rotation isn't awful. Add a decent DH like Alvarez or Morneau and the team could be interesting without further subtractions. I know what you're saying. We're bad but by no means one of the worst teams. I still hope they move Quintana, Frazier, and then Robertson or Melky (has he been linked to anyone? Maybe a fit in Baltimore or San Fran?). Maybe call the Dodgers up and see if they want a cheap 2B (Lawrie).
  14. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) I tend to think he's toast, but worth a shot I suppose. His average fastball velocity went from 93/94 to 90 over the past 3 or 4 seasons so Coop is really gonna teach him how to pitch or it's going to more of the same. Again, worth a shot, just not the reclamation project I personally would have chosen. Out of curiosity, who would you have signed?
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) Covey is an option at starting pitcher, but more likely he ends up in the pen Hate to say it, but who really even cares? After dealing Robertson, Frazier (possibly), Quintana, etc. we are on track to win 60 games at best in 2017...which I am totally ok with as it sets us up for a top 3 draft pick I don't care who starts. I'm just saying this signing isn't a definitive "Q is obviously gone next" move. Just like Robertson not being listed for Soxfest isn't a guarantee he won't be here (as he wasn't last year either apparently).
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) Not if they consider Covey to be a starter. I bet Rodon/Gonzalez/Holland/Shields/Covey is the rotation we'll be looking at most of 2017. I don't think they are counting on him breaking camp with that guy as a starter. You can't really guarantee a guy who's never pitched above AA any spot You bring him to Spring Training and see if he can stick. But yes, Quintana will probably be next. But this signing I wouldn't say makes it definitive.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Type of move a rebuilding club should do. See if we can turn him into something we can leverage for more assets. Yep. No one should really hate this signing. Quintana, Rodon, Gonzalez, Holland, Shields as of right now. Fulmer, Giolito and Lopez in AAA.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Makes me feel like Q is the next one out the door. There was already a spot for him regardless.
  19. Solid filler. Hope he stays healthy and does good enough to get flipped.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) There would be no need to DFA him. I do think if some team did this with a pre-agreed second contract, there would be hell to pay. Probably like when the Red Sox juiced the system in LA. Instant free agent, loss of pool money etc. to the team. Yeah there's no way it wouldn't have consequences.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) He'd never clear waivers. I think the whole it has nothing to do with money talk will eventually have everything to do with money so if they don't alter the CBA, he will wait the 3 years. I agree. I don't think we will see him in 2018.
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) Lol we are set with OF prospects?? What the hell are you smoking and where do I get it? Aside from Basabe (who is a mere projection at this point), every organization has the type of prospects like Tilson, Engel, and Call/Fisher. If we manage to get a 4th OF'er and a platoon player out of those 4 we should be happy if you're being realistic about it. How about just get as much talent as possible? And Tucker just so happens to be really talented. This. You collect as much as possible at any and every position since you won't hit on all of them.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Isn't the idea that teams will use some loophole - sign him for a modest amount, agree to DFA him after 1 year (or whatever it's called when you let a player go early in career, and he agrees to sign back for some predetermined massive amount? I don't know. Seems pretty sketchy.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) This is what I posted in the other thread regarding the new rules: Here's the Baseball America (paywall) explanation from Ben Badler: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...hyAyO7IBYWtT.97 Clubs either get $5.75, $5.25, or $4.75 million to spend on international prospects under 25 per year. Teams can trade all of their bonus amounts but can only acquire 75% of their bonus pool in trade. Here are the amounts. $5.75 million Arizona Baltimore Cleveland Colorado Kansas City Pittsburgh St. Louis San Diego $5.25 million Cincinnati Miami Milwaukee Minnesota Oakland Tampa Bay $4.75 million Atlanta Boston Chicago Cubs Chicago White Sox Detroit Houston LA Angels LA Dodgers NYM NYY Philly San Francisco Seattle Texas Toronto Washington Players that cost $10,000 or less don't count against the pool. The following teams can't spend over $300,000 on a player because they are in the penalty from previous years: Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Royals, Athletics, Astros, Braves, Cardinals, Nationals, Padres, and Reds. All of those teams can trade their full amounts however. The White Sox can trade for up to $3.5 million more in international money. This is absolutely something that they should be doing. White Sox can spend $8.3 million internationally if they trade for the maximum that they can. I'll be very curious to see if they do this. I think Hahn is smart enough to pull something like this off but who knows. Very curious indeed.
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) The Charlotte lineup should have Yoan Moncada, Adam Engel, and Jacob May in it. The rotation will consist of Giolito, Lopez, and Fulmer with Clark and Burdi in the bullpen. Fun team. Hopefully a few more exciting pieces as well.
