  1. Another layer of the story: http://uproxx.com/sports/jose-fernandez-bo...-friend-text/2/
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) I check the box scores and tonight actually watched the highlights, but no, I haven't been watching. I am really only watching Anderson's BA and his strikeouts vs. walks in the box scores. Very sad the Sox have sucked the last 3 years. April: like you super hyped. Also live and die every game. May: same as April. June: same as April. July: very sad but watching as much as I can. August: very sad, have given up, watch some. Sept: haven't watched at all. Extremely sad. Very sad winter is near as well. Could care less about Cub postseason. hope they lose. Those 2 sentences are literally the exact opposite lol
  3. This morning, a bag washed up on shore close to the accident with a bag full of Jose Fernandez signed baseballs. Auction those off and give proceeds to the family.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:06 PM) Just watched some pregame, Al Leiter is cynical as f***. What did he say?
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Won $110 in one league, finished 2nd out of 12 in the other one. Not too bad. Nice man. When you're older and have a job you can win $770 like I did lol
  6. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Who are they assuming would be the third? Burdi? I'm assuming Hansen.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) This dude got popped for drugs. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=arias-000yoj My phone isn't opening the link. Can't you just post the name?
  8. Apparently the friends that also tragically passed with him were friends with more players on the Marlins as well and spent time on that boat. Can you imagine if this had happened the night before/early morning of a day off? Marlins and baseball world may be mourning more than just Fernandez today.
  9. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Yes Sean Taylor is who comes to mind instantly for me. Other guy wasn't a superstar but was a starter in the majors would be Nick Adenhart. If memory serves coerectly, he died the same night he made his major league debut. So horrible to read about his passing the next day.
  10. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Fulfilling Lol I was going to say something similar. Without watching games the past 4 years, I'd have time for other important s*** lol
  11. Yeah there was a lot going on yesterday. We lose not just the potentially great career of Jose Fernandez but also do not get to hear Vin Scully anymore.
  12. QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) Why would Aaron Rowand be a good manager? Isn't he an outfield and base running coach? Don't you want someone with experience making game decisons and such? Not sure anyone is saying he would be good. Just predicting it'll be him based on this organization.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 12:14 PM) Len Bias overdosed on cocaine 2 days after being selected 2nd overall in the 1986 draft. While that is tragic and sad, it doesn't quite compare to this. A young star whos been around a few years but still really young passing tragically in the prime of his career.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) When they aren't going anywhere, I hit the doldrums in August, but once September hits, I get a second wind. No baseball for 6 months gets me excited to watch meaningless for the White Sox games. I usually go to about 15 games a year scattered throughout the season. This year, I've been to six. Last game was the game we hit 7 homers and lost (mid-end of June). May take in one more this week for the reason you gave. I'll miss the option of being able to go.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) I watch every single game religiously. Aren't you like 17/18 years old? Go be a 17/18 year old dammit! Those were good times in my life haha
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Interested to see how many have checked out on games but still following team. I am still watching QUintana games and hope he ends up in top 5 of cy young. Question for those still watching: what are you looking for? Question for all: Can the last week change your impression of the season? I can't help but feel that despite the failures of this season, I'd take it over last any day of the week. But would losing out and having a worse record change that? No.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) Won the final by 200 points. 5 straight titles! How many people in that league? And is it for money?
  18. Don't know if this was mentioned, but Vin Scully mentioned during the broadcast that about a year ago, Fernandez tweeted out: "If lives are a book, would you read the end to yours?" RIP young man.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) Great player, but more importantly he was always smiling out there. Seemed like the type of guy that was a great role model on the field. Guy was always having fun. Screw the old players that hate on the new generation of players for showing emotion. Its a game.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Very sad. If he hadn't have been pushed back a day, he probably wouldn't have been on that boat. The cruel hands of fate. RIP. Reminds me of the Oscar Taveres death. If the Cards had stayed in the playoffs a bit longer that season, he'd still likely be alive.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) 2 others were killed, and today's Marlins-Braves game has been cancelled. The call came in at 3am. He was scheduled to start today. I know it doesn't matter but he was pushed back to tomorrow. So incredibly sad. Big loss for the baseball world.
  22. QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) Multiple Twitter accounts this morning reporting that Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident. This is awful news, the league was better when he was pitching. Wow so sad. RIP, Jose.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) Ugh. More games against Central Division teams. Robin's Sox career is so close to over. I wonder what he'll do next year? I'd think he has a lot of friends in baseball. Maybe bench coach for a good team? I bet he goes back to his family.
  24. Gotta agree with some here. If it's going to be a former player here, I gotta to with AJ (referring to a group that involves loved ones such as: Thome, Rowand, Konerko, AJ as mentioned, etc.). Though i do prefer to go with Sandy (not really a part of group mentioned above).
