  1. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) It better not be a salary dump. They should be able to get some good value from a contender for an established closer with a couple of years of control. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) Exactly. I wouldn't salary dump him because he's not an awful closer. He's overpaid but we at least have a closer who can close most nights. Just can't run him out there four consecutive days. I think he could bring back close to what Chapman got personally. Other than 3-4 outings, he's had a good season.
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) It amazes me that anyone thinks winning 89 games and 1 playoff game in a decade is anything even worth mentioning. It's clearly all Jim Thome's fault.
  3. Beginning to think the only deal we make is trading Robertson since they seem to be pushing him according to that article posted in the Robertson thread.
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) When is the trade deadline this year? Did I read that it will be Aug. 1 since July 31 is a Sunday? You are correct. My question is what time on that day? Like 4pm central?
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) I'll have mixed feelings but I don't want them giving away Sale or Q. I think they can move Robertson for certain. Sure seems like it. I'm hoping they move Melky and Frazier although if they're both here I won't care. I just don't want to see our two stud SPs given away when they're in such demand and they won't. They're not just going to give them away. They've made that very, clear by their comments (well through the media/twitter).
  6. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) Here's hoping the Sox score some runs. Lol seriously. Could be a 1-0 loss.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Sox also don't make the playoffs with Gio instead of Thome in 2008. It amazes me that people try to argue the Thome deal being a bad one lol
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Well it's more of it looks like trading for the sake of trading. I'd seriously be ok with those deals.
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) I'm not going to go tit for tat. Gio Gonzalez had a higher WAR in his control years than Thome did for Sox. The Sox have been bad for over a decade now. I don't have to defend that statement. Everybody can have an opinion, that's fine. Doesn't make the trade a bad one. Thome performed here. There was a chance Gio wouldn't develop the way he did being a prospect. Edit: if you want to argue a bad Gio Gonzalez trade at least make it the Nick Swisher one for f*** sake.
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Those moves don't make the Sox any better and more likely worse. Well no s***. Anytime you trade for prospects of course your mlb team is going to be worse lol
  11. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) I don't expect Robin to really say anything other than nothing answers at this point. That's what I kind of figure. Whether he knows or not he's going to play stupid to the media.
  12. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) LINK Ventura on #WhiteSox being sellers before Monday's deadline: "I don't think that's going to happen." ~ Scot Gregor's twitter Does anyone think Robin has any idea what's going to happen? Surely they'd let him know if they planned on selling right?
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) If his physical went well, they would have acquired Arrieta. Of course that's a Baltimore physical. Probably 95% of this year's Olympians would fail. Lol yeah.
  14. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) This times a thousand. I take a look at the farms of Houston, Boston, Cubs, LA, Texas, Pitt and as a Sox fan I just wonder where they got all those nice shiny toys from. Then I remember that KW was calling the shots for way too long. His wheeling and dealing and terrible drafting of "toolsy" outfielders was a total catastrophe. Unfortunately he is still around and I don't see him or Reinsdorf ever committing to an actual rebuild. We have to hope that someone younger buys the team that is willing to wait through a tear down. I know many fans wouldn't be patient with it but I personally would be.
  15. QUOTE (bruni @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) Yankees take the entire haul received from Cubs for Chapman, add #2 overall catching prospect Gary Sanchez AND Pineda (Coop will fix him!) for Sale. Sox immediately solve long term catching issue with Sanchez and most recent #1 Collins, get stronger up the middle in time with McKinney and Rashard Crawford, acquire stud middle infielder Torres (who I would convert into a 2B) and have both Warren and Pineda to bolster starting pitching staff. As you see above, I told you about the Yankees being in play back on page 30 of this thread... I agree that the package is light, but the WSox have underwhelmed before. I have zero faith in the ability of this front office to pull off a Miller-esque heist a la Atlanta's fleecing of Arizona. I believe unfortunately that despite the posturing, the league knows that they want to move Sale and/or Jerry is sick of the repeated embarrassments and distractions from Sale's behavior. I still think Sale is the guy that gets moved before the deadline on the 1st. We shall see... Yuck Edit: mostly at the McKinney (not big on him), Pineda, and especially Warren part.
  16. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Hopefully this is just to bait Boston to up their offer. I hope so too. Yankees (and other competive teams for a wild card spot (Texas)), Ortiz's final season, terrible starting pitching, young and controllable core, Dombrowski are reasons Boston might overpay lol
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) If I'm Hahn, I'm only using Texas for posturing. Me too. Let other teams know that the Rangers are willing to part with MLB players (Profar and Gallo).
  18. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) I don't see the Sox trading both Sale and Quintana. Gonzalez is gone next year and they'd probably prefer to dump Shields if they can. If all four of those guys are gone, they have Rodon, an unproven Fulmer, and three holes to fill. If think it's more likely that Hahn deals Sale for a couple of really good young ML-ready players and a veteran #3 or #4 starter sometime in the next 12 months. Gonzalez has one more year of control left.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) We have different definitions of ridiculous returns, that's the point. Getting two top ten prospects plus other interesting players would be a very strong trade. But the laundry list of we need Moncada and benintendi and kopach and devers and ...it's just unrealistic. I know it is unrealistic, because if I was the Red Sox, I would not make that trade. I'll take Benintendi, Moncada and Kopech. I will take any other lower prospects in A-ball that they want to include with them. They can keep Devers if it means getting those first 2. To me personally.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Why would you settle for lesser return on a superstar pitcher with his contract? Either you get a ridiculous return, or you don't make a deal. Basically if you make a deal, you have to feel really, really good about the sum of the parts you get being better as a whole than Sale will be going forward. If the goal is to fill multiple holes, you have to feel pretty confident about getting at least two, if not 3 good starters out of this deal, with the chance at having at least one positional star come out of this deal. If not, why are you making the deal? He never said he'd take a lesser return?
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Yeah, this was what I was getting at. Sale and Q >>> Shark, but if Dombrowski or Friedman want to get Shields/Gonzalez or Jones/Robertson/Duke/Jennings to make themselves feel better about giving up more high ceiling prospects, do it. Yeah I think added this exact thought at some point yesterday afternoon but no one responded. Add Shields and Gonzalez to a Sale/Quintana deal and a team gets a great front of the rotation arm to pair with a possible bounceback in Price and a solid back-end starter under cheap control for a couple years. Plus they have Pomeranz in the middle of the rotation. All of a sudden, their rotation looks a lot better going into the post season/next year.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Can't compete with virtually the same lineup, this retooling begins with a new staff (Ozzie, AJ, Willie Harris, Cooper?) and hopefully some young imported talent from this deadline Well we also would get 2 more months of Anderson and whoever we sign would hopefully be better than Jackson/Shuck who he'd be replacing in the lineup (not necessarily in center field).
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) RHP Miguel Gonzalez to MIA for RHPs Austin Brice (MIA #11 prospect) and Cody Poteet (MIA's #17 prospect) RHP James Shields and cash to CHC for RHP Duane Underwood (CHC #7 Prospect) and OF Eddy Martinez (CHC #14 prospect) LHP Zach Duke to TEX for RHP Luke Jackson (TEX #20 prospect) and LHP Andrew Faulkner (TEX #22 prospect) RHP David Robertson to WSH for RHP Erick Fedde (MLB #92 prospect), 3B Drew Ward (WSH #12 prospect), C Pedro Severino (WSH #16 prospect), and OF Brian Goodwin RHP Matt Albers to BOS for RHP Pat Light (BOS #14 prospect) 3B Todd Frazier to NYM for OF Brandon Nimmo (NYM #5 prospect), 2B Dilson Herrera, and C Kevin Plawecki OF Melky Cabrera to SF for RHP Tyler Beede (SF #3 prospect) Sounds good to me.
  24. No rumors as of now, but figured he could use his own, thread as interest could pick up. Motivation for this thread is the Nats have checked in on Jose Bautista. So they are looking for outfielders and we know the offense is not untouchable except for Anderson.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) 2014 we traded Jesse Crain Oh yeah. And brought nothing back with that move.
