Salary Relief
That the Dodgers would rather spend all that money on free agents and taxes actually disgusts me. They are so protective of their prospects that they'd rather pay millions in tax penalites? They don't need every single one of those prospects and I believed it would be more prudent to swap some unproven prospects for good veteran players. Whatever, screw them. Hope they finally miss out on the playoffs in 2017.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Quintana does not have to get dealt this offseason if their price is not met They can shop him at the deadline or next offseason and still get a huge return This cannot be emphasized enough. Hahn is ready to hold his players until his asking prices are met. If teams like the Astros want to diddle around and wait for a lower ask, they are only hurting themselves. While I still think Q finds a new home before Spring Training, I am fully prepared for the possibility of him not being dealt yet. Frankly, he's one of the few pitchers in the league I'd be okay with risking him getting hurt or having a bad year instead of dealing him to the "best bid."

Jensen Back to Dodgers
He must really not want to be a Marlin to have not accepted 5/80+ at this point. Wow.
-
Dexter Fowler to St. Louis
5 years, 82.5 MM, and a disappointed Cubs fanbase. I hope he hits .400 against the Cubs and terrorizes them. Cardinals have some work to do to compete with that team, and this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I'd be shocked if the Yankees traded what it's gonna take to acquire Quintana. All indications are that they really want those prospects to be part of their core going forward, and frankly that's the way the Yankees should go in my opinion. If, by the deadline they are competing, then they might become buyers to some degree. If I were them, I'd really want to hold onto those top prospects of theirs and see them through.

2018 free agency
I fully expect Hahn and company to be "in" on the big time free agents in 2018. How far "in" is open to interpretation, but with the minuscule payroll and the probable need/want to add a huge player to the organization during what should be the end of a rebuild, I can't imagine we won't hear grumblings about the Sox being in on these top players.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) I don't think the Yankees are prepared to sell off the farm while they are rebuilding. That is a team that really could use arms though. Their starting pitching is somewhat of a mess outside of Tanaka. This seems to be consensus among the insiders. They aren't necessarily looking to necessarily compete next year, and they want that wave of talent that they have to reach the bigs. So, I doubt they jump in on Quintana.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:19 AM) FWIW Dave Cameron thinks Jones should net a return similar to what Ken Giles got last year. I had no clue Nate Jones was 30. Holy cow. Trade him, IMO.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Rosenthal was just talking about how valuable Eaton's contract actually is to a team like Washington that doesn't go absolutely nuts with payroll. We've said it all along that good players on contracts like that should net a good haul of prospects, and it rung true in this instance.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
The only blowback here is on the Nationals. No other team will decide to tread lightly with the White Sox because they got an excellent return from the Nats. It's on Washington to accept the deal and they did.

Jensen Back to Dodgers
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) Interesting....that said, I think he'd take a bit less to stay in LA. I agree with this as well. LA is so much more desirable a destination than Miami, in terms of being on a competitive team.
-
Jensen Back to Dodgers
Unless, actually, the Dodgers match. If they match I think it's a no brainer for Jansen to go back to LA.
-
Jensen Back to Dodgers
This should wrap up the free agent closer market, I highly doubt the Dodgers offer more money than Chapman got from the Yankees for Jansen. I'd be shocked if they did.
-
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Wow how observant of you to notice that Quintana is not Chris Sale, John Coppolella. Duh.
-
Chapman back to Yankees
Yanks need another lefty in the pen. Maybe they look at Dan Jennings? Everything the insiders are saying is they won't be looking to part with any of their premium prospects, so it's doubtful they pursue Q I guess.

Adam Eaton Appreciation Thread
Bought his jersey. He's my kind of baseball player. Gonna miss him for sure.

Chapman back to Yankees
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 2m2 minutes ago #Yankees will now try to find more setup rlf and SP if they can Let's go Quintana!

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) I think his value now vs. if he has a successful season as our closer is way different. 100% agreed here. If you can get a "closer" return for Nate now, you do it and don't look back. If he needs to be our 2016 closer and get dealt at the deadline, that's fine too. As much as I want to see the farm filled up right meow, I realize it's going to take some time to move ALL of our pieces that we want to move.
-
Chapman back to Yankees
I'm stoked this domino has fallen, and even happier that it's the Yankees. I hope they decide to jump in on Q now, his 4 years of control fits in very well with this 5 year deal to Chapman.

Should the White Sox Slow Down on the Rebuilding Trades?
I think Melky stays with us until the trade deadline. He should be hitting around .280+ at that time and some team will need a contact hitter for the stretch. I doubt you could get anything interesting for him right now.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I know Hahn hasn't slept much the past couple of days, so I'm wondering if the Sox are just gonna call it a winter meetings and get some rest and continue trying to work upon frameworks established this week. I'd be as ecstatic as anyone if we get another midnight blockbuster, though. Maybe they are powering through it and trying to get a deal done tonight.

Should the White Sox Slow Down on the Rebuilding Trades?
I think Q, Nate Jones and David Robertson get dealt this offseason for sure. Possibly Frazier as well. All these guys should get acceptable offers. Abreu is going to stay on the team and if he has a great first half, get dealt at the deadline or in June. I don't think the offers we want for Abreu will be there until next season. I say don't slow down. Keep selling. Tank 2 years get a top 5 pick and keep building that farm.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) I think some of it depends on if they sign Chapman. If they sign Chappy and then pivot to EE, they could be good again in a hurry, in which case Q makes sense. Hopefully Chapman and EE get figured out soon. I'd imagine they want to leave the winter meetings knowing who they're going to be playing for.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
How serious do you guys think the Yankees would be for a Q trade? I mean, are they going to be going for it or are they trying to build up that farm rather then selling off part of the farm?
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Sox haven't pulled trigger but seemed to be in big ticket items like that. Recently Tanaka, but prior to that Alex Rodriguez in the texas deal. If their offer is competitive, with a successful rebuild they could really sell Bryce on helping get this team to the World Series. Ah, I love dreaming sometimes...
