  1. Like fathom said, I think the Giants should just rebuild at this point. But the fact that they're even rumored to be interested in this deal shows that rebuilding isn't even a possibility for them. In that case, I think they'd be better off signing Lowrie/LeMahieu/Dozier to play 2B and Markakis to play OF for a fraction of the financial commitment that Heyward requires. Like I said, Schwarber and Happ shouldn't be a good enough reason for the Giants to do a deal in which they take on Heyward.
  2. Don't you think the Giants would want to get rid of the bad money as quickly as possible? Why prolong the process by acquiring Heyward? And no, I don't think Schwarber/Happ is enough of a reason for the Giants to do that deal. They'd be better off just signing an infielder/outfielder in free agency and avoiding the Heyward contract altogether.
  3. I thought people were talking about the Sox, my bad. I guess it would make more sense for the Giants because of the reasons you stated, but I still don't know why they would be willing to take on Heyward. He sucks and that contract is horrendous. Schwarber and Almora don't provide enough of an incentive to make taking on Heyward worth it for the Giants IMO.
  4. Almora and Schwarber were worth a combined 3.2 BWAR last season. They aren't even close to being good enough to make it worth taking on Heyward's albatross of a contract and opening the door for the Cubs to sign Harper. C'mon guys.
  5. Why in the world would the Giants take on Heyward, even if the Cubs took on half his deal and threw in Schwarber? That makes literally no sense.
  6. I'd think that the Sox have a number that they won't go above during these negotiations. At some point the dollar amount becomes so absurd that it no longer makes sense. If it went up to 425 million, I would understand if the Sox were hesitant. That being said, I don't think it will be that high.
  7. Up the offer to 400 million and get it done. Ok...maybe that's not what Hahn would do but that's what I would do. Haha.
  8. You'd think Clark's tweet would be mentioned by the Rosenthal's and Heyman's of the world by now if it were true.
  9. I'd do that in a heartbeat...which probably means that the Mariners would hang up the phone if that was offered to them. Haha.
  10. My heart dropped for a second when I saw that picture and then I read the rest of the thread. LMFAO!!!!
  11. What do you think they would do with Alonso if they did plan one? Trade him again? Or would they trade Abreu instead?
  12. Why people are taking what he's saying as 100% fact I just don't understand. He's not on the level of Rosenthal, Heyman, Morosi, etc.
  13. lol I think Incarcerated Bob is full of it too.
  14. FWIW, Heyman tweeted this just over an hour ago. I find it hard to believe that they went from "waiting for the market to play out" on Machado to him for sure signing there in that short of a time span.
  15. Machado hasn't been tied to that city/organization for months at this point. How is that relevant now?
  16. This is as SoxTalk as it gets. Can anyone tell me what news this Dan Clark has broken before that makes his words 100% credible?
  17. Unless it's Rosenthal, Heyman, Morosi, etc tweeting it, I'm taking rumors from everyone else with a grain of salt.
  18. Color me skeptical. I don't know why that guy would be the first to know about a deal of this magnitude.
  19. Does anyone know if Encarnacion and Machado are close or have some sort of friendship? If so, this idea could make sense. This offseason: - Sox trade for Encarnacion and get a prospect or two for taking on his salary. - Sox trade Abreu for a prospect or two. - Encarnacion is another tool to help recruit Machado to the Sox. Alonso at 1B, Encarnacion at DH next season. Next offseason: - Encarnacion departs via free agency. - The Sox bring back Abreu as a free agent. - Alonso's option vests, bringing him back to the Sox for another season. Alonso at 1B, Abreu at DH in 2020. While this seems far fetched, I guess it isn't entirely impossible.
  20. Unless they can get Haniger too as part of a trade with Seattle, acquiring just Encarnacion makes no sense to me.
  21. Giolito reminds me a bit of Gavin Floyd.
  22. After going through some of his other posts...very rarely does it seem like he likes any of the comments. Interesting.
  23. And Yonder Alonso made both a post and a story about Manny Machado on Instagram today as well.
