Alex Cora had one of the best AB's of last season against Clement and the sCrUBS. He must have fouled off 15-18 pitches before taking Clement deep. The other AB being Frank Thomas' against KC during the second (?) game of the season where he fouled off 13-16 before walking. I think he'd be an over-all upgrade over Willie.

Not only does acquiring Podsednik free up about $7 million dollars, strengthen the defense up the middle and in the OF as a whole, and give the White Sox a legit lead-off hitter (for "Ozzieball") after not having one for years, but this deal will move Willie Harris to his rightful spot in the batting order..... as an 8 or 9 place hitter. It is now imperative for KW to go out and get a quality starting pitcher with the money saved by trading C Lee away. While I haven't been a fan of KW and some..... if not most..... of KW's deals, I cannot fault him ever for being a man of his word. He said going into the offseason that he was going to assemble a team more in line with Ozzie's hit-and-run philosophy. So far in the '04-'05 offseason, he's doing it. Good job KW. And let's not forget that Vizcaino strengthens the BP big-time over what we had going into '04.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the Sox need a 5th starter..... have needed one for 2 seasons now. '03 was truly pathetic everyday a 5th starter took the mound.

Maybe my numbers are off. I have the Sox currently at $68 million + some change. What was the White Sox payroll for '03? $61-$62 million. How is that adding $12 million to '03's salaries?

Wouldn't surprise me. For KW to continue to fly under the radar, he's going to have to move salary cause, GOD FORBID, the White Sox actually add considerable (around $10 million) salary over the course of one offseason. If Lee or Konerko are moved, it had better be for a proven, established SP. None of this Todd Ritchie "innings-eater" bulls***.

I think the "20 years..... deferred" was a misprint. I'm sure it was supposed to be 2 years, probably over the course the '05-'06 seasons. Then, in '07, the Sox would look to dump Magglio and a huge portion of the remainder of his non-deferred contract on some other team like they tried to dump him on the Red Sox during the '03-'04 offseason.

Neither side is telling the 100% complete truth. Maggs is gone and Dye is going to need a career year in RF to put up Maggs-like numbers. I'm shocked that so many Sox fans are willing to take JR and Co. at their word.
