  1. He hit it off a lefty too! His wRC+ is now at 100.
  2. Davidson at .216/.261/.455 84 wRC+ and -0.8 WAR shouldn't really be considered a plus, he's fallen pretty hard. Also even with the above we get a wildcard at best and then we need to rebuild anyway, but this time we have fewer assets and the assets that remain have less value. I'd still rebuild.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) I've always been pro tank but not at the expense of our young guys. These are the EXACT type of games I want to see the rest of this season into next. If we're getting good starts out of Gio and Yoan and TA are going to spark rallies then f*** losing. If Shields is going to go out there and get hit around then f*** winning. Completely agree, plus if this series helps put the nail in the coffin for the Royals' playoff hopes that's just an extra bonus.
  4. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Yoan on base 4 times today. OPS back over 700 He has a 14 game on base streak too.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Well the White Sox would just DH him. He's already gone to exclusively DH in the NPB this year, so it's fairly safe to assume he'd be okay with that. I was just disagreeing with Cameron's assessment that an NL team makes the most sense. I'd be absolutely shocked if he actually plays the field between starts. To be fair Cameron wasn't suggesting an NL team would let him play the field, just that an NL team makes the most sense because he can hit when he starts and pinch hit for pitchers on his off days. But that would give him, what, less than 200 PA at the plate? An AL team could offer more opportunities to hit than that easily. He argues that this scenario would cause a problem with roster construction because Otani would probably only DH 2 to 3 times per week and you'd need a roster spot to cover DH the rest of the time, but that seems like a minor issue. I just looked and there were only 6 or 7 DHs this year that were full-time DHs, and it shouldn't be that hard to find opportunities to get Otani into the lineup and get him ~300 PA or so.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) Actually hope Hahn continues to stay away Not big on this kid Even if you aren't big on him the risk is minimal for every team. It's a no-brainer for everybody.
  7. Nah at this point I'm just convinced he slept with your girlfriend or something.
  8. In Dave Cameron's chat today he thinks NL teams have the advantage because AL teams would be too wary of promising him too many at bats at DH in case he flops as a hitter and they're stuck with a black hole in the lineup, whereas NL teams can let him pinch hit on his off days where the bar he needs to clear for hitting will be much lower. But even if he does suck as a hitter will the AL team be obligated to keep trotting him out there at DH? And if that's the case couldn't an AL rebuilding club just take that risk and guarantee him plenty of AB? If he flops at the plate initially it's no big deal to them.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) Believe they are still capped at $300k. I guess he can still try to convince him why he should come to Chicago. Plus I think there's little to no chance he signs with an NL team without a DH slot ready for him.
  10. The Royals should give Perez more breaks, he always fades hard in the 2nd half and he's doing it again this year. 1st half: .290/.318/.532 2nd half: .199/.229/.375 Ouch.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) That is what I'm saying. Had this trade occurred with 2 extra years of a cheap Chris Sale, the 3rd piece would've been much better IMO. Another top 100 guy. Who would have given us that package though? Looking back, the top farm systems at the end of 2014 were the Cubs, Twins, Astros, Red Sox, Rangers, Pirates and Dodgers. A pre-title Cubs would not be a trade partner, the Twins aren't happening, and I don't think the Pirates pull the trigger either on a Glasnow (#12)/Meadows (#30) led package. If they wouldn't this past offseason I don't think they do it in 2015 either. The Dodgers with Kershaw and Greinke are not going to be willing to part with some combination of Urias (#3)/Seager (#6)/Pederson (#11). The Red Sox were clearly intending to compete with the signings of Sandoval and Ramirez, but going by Fangraphs rankings of prospects in February 2015, their top prospects at the time were Swihart (#9), Rodriguez (#23), Owens (#33), Margot (#35) and Devers (#48). Even if we somehow got Devers as the third piece instead of the next prospect (Brian Williams at #104), is Swihart/one of Rodriguez or Owens/Devers better than what we got? Rangers had Gallo (#16), Alex Gonzalez (#27), Jake Thompson (#29), Mazara (#46), and Alfaro (#53). Would Gallo/one of Gonzalez or Thompson/one of Mazara and Alfaro be better? And that's probably unrealistic. Unless the Astros were willing to give up Correa (#5) they wouldn't beat what we got, and Appel (#18) would have been the second piece. Coming off a 92 loss season there's no way they do it. The only other team I could see being in the picture is Toronto with Norris (#17), Hoffman (#67), Sanchez (#70), Pompey (#80) and Pentecost (#93) but we'd want at least two top 50 guys and they didn't have the elite positional prospect we'd want. I'm not seeing a realistic package that would be better than what we got.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:35 AM) With what though? The only reason we have anything to build with now is because we traded them. I'm not saying it would have worked differently but we had just signed Quintana and Eaton to extensions and they hadn't really established themselves as much yet, why would we have traded them? And I don't really see us trading Sale at that point either. I also agree with you that Sale would not have gotten that much more either, there were still a lot of GMs probably worried that his arm was going to explode at any second. A couple more healthy seasons probably quelled a lot of those fears. It is interesting to think about where the roster would be at this point, though the only player we traded that I would have any interest in getting back is Semien (EDIT: I forgot about He Who Must Not Be Named), and even then he's looking like just a league average player. But a rebuild that started in 2013 would probably be expecting to compete around now or next season.
  13. On August 25th the Dodgers were 20 games ahead of the Indians. 18 days later and now they're only 4 games ahead. The Indians could very well take the #1 seed. That's nuts.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) It's crazy how much the sox bullpen has stabilized. When they are bad it seemsl ike they are all bad together. BUt otherwise they are decent. Infante has actually been really good the last two months.
  15. But if we hadn't gone for it in 2015 I don't think we trade those three, we still would probably be looking to build around them.
  16. That called third strike on Moncada was definitely ball 4.
  17. How about a slightly different what if scenario? Say we never went for it in 2015 and continued to rebuild. Would we have been competitive this year?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) Also amazing: Tim Anderson was one double away from a cycle The sox had 3(!!!) players with a home run and a triple (Yolmer, TA, Abreu) Yolmer was also one double away from the cycle.
  19. Anderson is hitting .297/.311/.559 (126 wRC+) with a .262 ISO since the beginning of August (148 PA), and his BABIP is a not too outlandish .360 over that time for a guy with his speed. Got his WAR back into positive territory after yesterday's game.
  20. Still tied in the win column with the Giants
  21. And Yolmer is on fire lately.
  22. Well yeah he's probably not this good but maybe he's not a total lost cause yet. At this point I'll be happy if he can be a decent 5th or 6th reliever out of the bullpen.
  23. Happy for Fulmer. He actually looked decent too.
  24. With all the guys breaking out this year across the league after years of struggling, I'm not worried. I think he'll need a couple seasons to figure it out and that's OK.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) Where is the tab, exactly? I can't seem to find it on bb ref. Thanks To the right of the big lettering "Standard Batting" there's a button that says "Show Minors". There's also a tab to the right of the "[Name of Player] Overview" tab that says "Minor Lg Stats".
