  1. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Don't understand how SF benefits from that. That would be the ultimate bail out for the Cubs. Saves them around $30 million or so.
  2. White Sox Dave tweeted that the Cubs and Giants have discussed a Heyward and Samardzija/Melancon swap
  3. The opt out is going to kill a lot of his value too. Either he plays well enough and then leaves or he doesn't perform and you're stuck with an albatross. Not a very attractive bet to make.
  4. Zavala’s first 6 games in the AFL: .500/.585/.778 with 2 2B 1 HR and 4 BB to 3 K Thrown out 3 of 6 baserunners. Crushed the HR 460 feet to center today, 113 mph exit velocity
  5. The graphic also missed the 1999 Yankees, who also went 11-1. And it's not like there was a lot of stats to dig through, they only had to check 22 teams. That's a pretty terrible job by whoever did it.
  6. They need to replace at least 2 SP this offseason, and the FA starting pitcher options all look pretty risky. Plus with all the young guys hitting arbitration soon spending a lot on a long term deal for a top FA pitcher would mean drastically increasing the payroll in a few years. Heyward not being good enough to opt out is going to hurt too. I wonder if they trade one of Baez/Russell/Happ/Schwarber for a pitcher.

  8. Nathan For You continues to outdo itself.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Cubs Twitter is pretty pissed. What a grade trade by Hahn. Wish Q the best but man he has not had the impact they hoped. Eh he had the highest WAR of their SP in the 2nd half and his first two playoff starts he pitched fine, hardly a bad acquisition for them thus far.
  10. That was bittersweet to watch
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) I'd rather just remove the pitching position from the hitting lineup entirely so only 8 players bat. Yeah this would obviously never happen, and it would cause a big change to the record books because players would be getting so many more PA in a season, but I would absolutely be for this.
  12. IMO the extra "strategy" of NL baseball is way overblown (in those situations the right move is obvious the majority of the time). It's also artificial, it wouldn't exist if pitchers were remotely competent hitters. And there's nothing exciting about seeing a team walk the 8th hitter to kill a rally with 2 outs. That being said, I do kind of like having the two different flavors of the leagues, so I'm not sure I'd be for making everything uniform across both leagues.
  13. Schwarber batting 2nd against a lefty?
  14. At this time of year it's been a long season for every team, everyone is probably dealing with fatigue/aches and pains in some form or another.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 10:12 PM) I see the cubs have an error. Was it Schwarber? Bryant
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) I understand how good his framing is, but do you really think it adds ~2.5 to his WAR? http://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=65870 I was just going by his WARP, which is the only one that includes framing. The last three years he's been worth 4.8, 6.6 and 4.6 WAR by this metric. EDIT: Not that I necessarily agree that his framing adds that much, but even if it is exaggerated the point still remains that he's a well above-average catcher.
  17. If you add in his framing Grandal is a ~5 WAR catcher, no way the Dodgers trade him, and if they do he won't come cheap.
  18. Darvish has been utterly dominant in his last 4 starts (0.74 ERA, 0.49 WHIP, 28/1 K/BB ratio), I'm feeling pretty good about him tonight.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) Taking out Kershaw is going to backfire and everyone knows it Cubs didn’t get a baserunner after this.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 10:01 PM) Darling is insufferable In the past Culberson runs over Contreras before the ball gets to him and is safe anyway. How is that preferable?
  21. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Nah, I won't be sure until they are 3 outs from elimination and Jansen is in the game. With a 12 run lead
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) Taking out Kershaw is going to backfire and everyone knows it Maeda has been great out of the pen, I have no problem with that move. Kershaw wasn’t looking particularly sharp anyway.
  23. Quintana looks sharp.
  24. I mean if you want to get REALLY technical then due to electrons the baserunner is never actually in contact with the base, ditto for the glove/ball and the runner.
  25. So does Quintana start Game 1? Or do they dare start Lackey?
