Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
I like it. Even if Anderson doesn't hit, his speed and defense alone should make him worth the contract.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) If you get 4 prospects that are currently viewed as 50-60 FV, that can have just as much of an impact as 1 player who is viewed as a 65 FV player. 50-60 FV prospects are very good prospects though, I think the better depth argument is if you'd rather have a bunch of 45 FV prospects (which I consider "B" prospects) over a couple 55 FV guys, and I don't think I would. And I think this fits, as looking at the Fangraphs rankings the Yankees have 1 more 50+ FV prospect than we do but a lot more 45 FV prospects, so their depth basically comes from that 45 FV range.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Depth has been our exact problem for the last 10 years. True but I still think you're more likely to get more overall value from a handful of A prospects than you are a bunch of B prospects.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) When I looked at it, the Yankees top half of position prospects is better than any prospect the White Sox still have in the minors that was acquired any later than the 2016 draft. Even past Torres/Frazier, you look at Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar, Judge, Garcia, McKinney, etc, and those guys who have all been top 3 prospects for the White Sox in the 2015-2016 off-season. These are all really good prospects. We probably aren't talking about superstar ceilings, but a lot of solid to good players that will give you a positive impact year in and year out. Just because a guy is rated #10 in the Yankees system, and not a top 100 guy, doesn't mean there aren't some very good major league players to be found there. McKinney isn't even in the Yankees' top 30 prospects anymore for either Fangraphs or MLB.com, the guy's stock is way down.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Rodgers is closer than Rutherford, Rodgers played a full season of A ball this season and dominated Rutherford hasn't played above R ball and is the same age. Pint is a younger version of Kopech, with a huge fastball that needs to refine his command to be successful. With the Sox track record of developing pitching he is very intriguing. To me Rodgers/Pint > Rutherford/Frazier. Rodgers status as an up the middle player is huge and the Pint/Sox combo sets the bar really high. Rutherford is a corner OF with high bat upside but the lowest floor of any of the four players discussed. Frazier has lost quite a bit of luster with his struggles (SSS) in AAA. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-consens...ct-katoh-hates/ This article would make me nervous about acquiring Rodgers as a centerpiece. So Rodgers did dominate but he also played in an extremely friendly hitter's park, basically Coors on steroids and he didn't hit well on the road.

Last place team candidates tracker
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) I think Brewers are going to have a nice jump this year to 75 wins, even in that division. Padres I see being one of those teams that has an abysmal first half and people stop paying attention then have a surprisingly competent second half that takes them out of last place. I still think last place could be a team nobody suspects (like last year) and I'd put it on the marlins. Yeah Padres are definitely the favorite to finish with the worst record but if I were a betting man I'd probably take the field over them.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) You missed the key "good pitcher AND hitter" QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) I get what he's saying. If you're a good hitter and good pitcher, your average is likely higher. Example: 2.50 era and .300 batting avg. I thought the reason it was noteworthy is because batting average can't go above 1 while ERA can. So a .300 batting average is equivalent to a 0.30 ERA, not a 3.00 ERA.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) To be fair, if you're a good pitcher and hitter, your batting average SHOULD be better than your ERA. Explain? So a good pitcher should have an ERA well under 1?

Fangraphs Top 100 Prospects
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2017-top-100-prospects/ Moncada is at #1, the only one given a 70 FV. #19 Giolito #21 Kopech #28 Lopez #94 Collins #98 Fulmer And Burdi was on his "under consideration" list.

White Sox will be ranked #1 #2 or #3 at mlbpipeline.com
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) While our system is dramatically improved from last March, I wouldn't put us top 3 right now due to a lack of depth Our system has nice talent in the top 10, but gets significantly less interesting beyond that Landing a player like Robert, drafting well this season and a few trades (Quintana/Robertson) could really boost the system further IMO depth is a bit overrated, I'd much rather have a top-heavy system than a deep one that is lacking at the top.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Regardless of what we gave up, our FO targeted Lawrie as an upgrade. If you weren't a fan of the upgrade it's still fair to criticize. At 1 WAR technically he was a ~2 WAR upgrade, considering we were at -1.1 WAR out of our 2B in 2015, which was dead last in the MLB.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Another fun reminder for Hahn having an insanely bad offseason last year. To be fair Erwin and Wendelken have completely stunk up the joint since being traded.

No more 4 pitch intentional walk
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) I'm going to go to bat for this change. The reality while a lot of IBBs happen ahead of pitchers, they also happen a lot in interesting innings where there are potential scoring runs. When people are on edge of their seat, they then have to sit there and watch 4 practice pitches for a formality to get to the action. It's boring. It may not shave down time, but I think Manfreds larger goal is to reduce the "downtime" in the game. I've watched Sox games for 30 years, never seen a hit on an IBB attempt. That we all can easily name a few shows how rare they were. But every time I had to sit through an IBB was like waiting for a page to load. Glad it's gone. I agree, sure once every 1,000 intentional walks something interesting happens, but otherwise it's just boring. I'm willing to bet a year from now most people will wonder why this change wasn't made sooner.

Combined ZIPS/Steamer projections have Sox at last in AL by 5 games at
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/your-stance...rican-league-2/ What is probably more interesting is that people could vote on whether they disagreed with the projections, and over 50% of voters thought the White Sox projection was almost exactly right, with another 27% thinking it was too generous. EDIT: Title got cut off, it's supposed to say the projected record is 69-93.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) MLB Network's Top 100 Players Right Now starts tonight. Quintana has never been on this list before. I think he'll be in the first show tonight (81-100). (Q was 77) It obviously means nothing, but /r/baseball on Reddit had a fan representative from each team vote on their top 100 players for 2017 and Quintana came in at #32 on the list. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/...0_players_5026/

Matt Wieters
He's also a good framer, whereas Wieters is a horrible one. I'd be in favor of the move.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) I didn't say their rebuild is not legit. But it is very strange that they were able to trade their 2 "clubhouse problems" pretty quickly but were not able to move any of the other 23 players on their roster. I think a lot of fans( just look at this thread) expected more trades before spring training . But it looks like the FO may have a much longer timeline for the rebuild than the fans in order to try and keep the product on the field somewhat competitive. That is also a legit rebuild approach. Except the product currently on the field is not somewhat competitive, the Sox are a bottom 5 team right now.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) The number seems high to me but I started reading Passan's book, and he claims 52% of pitchers wind up on the DL every year. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/2015-star...dl-projections/ This Rotographs article says that ~40% of starting pitchers make at least 1 DL trip every season, that seems about right.

RUMOR: Nothing to see here
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) I would just like to say that I would like us signing Park. His contract isn't a big deal, and he hits the ball hard when he hits it. I agree, $10 million over 3 years is peanuts and if he can improve a bit on his contact issues he could be well worth the risk. That power is real.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) I see 3 or 4 teams that could very well only have 50 something wins. I just don't see the Sox as that depleted. They have a below average offense, and assuming Quintana stays, they may hold their own as as average, or slightly below average staff. Infield defense should be solid, outfield defense not so much. That isn't the makings of a team that will lose 105 games IMO. Which teams are going to have 50 something wins? The only team to lose 100 last year was Minnesota, and they greatly underperformed their run differential and Base Runs record, I doubt they come close to 103 losses again. The Rays had 68 wins but I see them doing much better this year, as they also greatly underperformed both their run differential and Base Runs. After that the worst record in the NL still had 68 wins. Of that bottom group the Padres definitely got worse but the Phillies, Braves and Reds should be improved. Oakland is the only other team in the AL that I think could challenge us for the bottom spot though I think their rotation has the potential to be pretty good, so I'd put them above us too. They don't need to lose 105 games to be one of the 5 worst teams in baseball, 95 losses last year would have been enough for the 2nd pick in the draft.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-biggest...till-out-there/ I think Cameron's idea of picking up de la Rosa for super cheap and trying him out as a middle reliever is intriguing. If he's any good he could definitely be an interesting deadline trade piece, especially since he's left-handed. Thoughts?

Report: MLB Plans To Test Extra-Innings Rule Change In Lower Level Min
I don't really care if the game lasts longer if there isn't as much deadtime. I think most fans would be fine if the game was longer if it meant more action. We just need more Mark Buehrles and fewer Pedro Baezs in the league. Was a game that Buehrle started ever boring?

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Belichick doesn't win that Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo though. I'm not denying that, and I'm not saying Brady isn't great. I'm just saying that while I think he would have been a HOF QB elsewhere, I'm not convinced he would be in the GOAT conversation with another coach besides Belichick.
