Sox history - 50 years ago - Santo hits inside the park HR
tray replied to tray's topic in Pale Hose Talk
" Dick exploded and basically said if he wanted to know what the pitcher was throwing he should have his ass on the bench watching with the rest of us." Maybe Ron was in the bathroom or taking an insulin shot, who knows. I watched the Cubs and WSox back in the day and met Santo years later. I found him to be a very humble and gracious man who fought a lifetime battle with diabetes that ended very brutally and sorrowfully. I recall Ron doing "Santo's thing" after a win where he jumped up and clicked his heels. Having said that I also recall that he openly ripped into Don Young for making 2 misplays...an event that some point to as the beginning of the end for the '69 Cubs. My God did they choke. -
Love this young player. Great family and a great young man. 457 foot bomb. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/video/george-wolkow-socks-a-two-run-homer?q=ContentTags %3D ["playerid-805804"] Order by Timestamp DESC&cp=CMS_FIRST&p=0

"Yes, I am a judge of character as we all are as human beings. I’m 44 years old, but what does that have to do with anything, gramps? " The post you questioned was about what the poster felt as a fan of Bobby Hull at that time. Bobby meant a LOT to young Hawk fans who knew nothing about any allegations by his then wife or ex-wife. As far as your characterization of Bobby Hull, there are a lot of athletes and politicians that abused alcohol (Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe Namath) and/or had allegations of sexual abuse levied against them by ex-wives yet were or are admired by certain people. -

You are not a judge of character and obviously do not have a clue what you are talking about. How old are you? Still a teenager? I could explain why Bobby Hull meant so much to fans, but why waste my time on someone who is so absorbed in themselves. -

There are different ways to improve the team. Trading star players for prospects seems to be the most popular, but there are risks in doing that. Recall the Chris Sale trade. Another way is to keep the most talented players and pitchers you have and look to add talent from the farm system and free agency. I like a few players that came up so far (Ramos, Lopez, Ellis, Colas). The starting rotation has been improved, although that is hard to see with the record this season. The tendency with a losing team might be to shed talented players, especially those that have under-performed, but I would prefer to see a little patience before deciding to tank the roster. -
This game is over. Very sad year for White Sox fans.

The missed pop-up was a tough play in a field Sheets wasn't familiar with and a ball with a lot of back spin. You can't judge his defesce on that play or the play that Stone had wrong. Sheets was there if the play was made in time. What is this sh1t? Fvk the cubs.

Cubs vs Sox greatest rivalry in sports 7:05 pm gt
tray replied to bmags's topic in 2024 Season in Review
Sox hatred runs deep when the new announcer is getting dissed. Not surprising after reading posts lauding Wrigley field, the "elite neighborhood" surrounding it, and dire predictions that the Sox have almost no talent in the minors and will be mired in a funk for a decade. Most posters here never have anything positive to say about the Sox and this season has opened the door for them to go beast mode with criticism. -

Trying to score from third on a shallow fly ball, is not just aggressive, it's just foolish. Veering too far off second base when everyone in the stands knows that a pick-off attempt is imminent is also foolish. Throwing strikes to power hitters like Wisdom or Morel in key at-bats is insane....better off walking them instead of letting them beat you. The Sox have played well enough to win in several games where they have been out-strategized and out-managed. Getz lacks the moxie to make the necessary personnel moves. Given that, JR needs to fire Grifol and his assistant managers. -

The Contreras brothers are strokes (as is Javier Baez who was shouting at Sox fans at this year's Opener) and deserve to be confronted. Remember this bat flip? https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/white-sox-pitcher-suspended-for-throwing-at-cubs-willson-contreras-after-sky-high-bat-flip/ -

"You don't like opponents rubbing it in your face. Win more fucking games. " ---------------------------- Oh "fucking games".... lol. I don't care how many losses my team had, we would never let players show us up on the field. Maybe you never played sports because if you had, you would know that. Team pride and resolve is something you start with before every game. The only problem I had with this situation is the lack of support from teammates. The bench should have cleared even if only a typical baseball shadow boxing yelling match. -

Embarrassing? No it was appropriate to stand up for our player and call out that piece of old cub garbage Contreras. Sox should not allow Contreras and Baez for that matter, to spike the ball in the endzone or in our face. How about some brush back pitches and whatever follows? Don't let these guys keep talking sh1t. -
Sheets has beaten out Vaughn for the starting first base job but not by much. They are both pretty average hitters. Ideally the Sox sign a free agent stick for 1B like Vlady Jr. I am spoiled as a Sox fan after Big Hurt and Konerko and even Abreu in his prime.
-
AV has been a hot/cold hitter, perhaps as a result of scouting which revealed some vulnerabilities he has at the plate. The big leg kick helps him time his swing and generate power. However, that strategy makes it tougher to cover pitches on the outside of the plate, especially when a pitcher can mix in some off-speed stuff out there. Like any other hitter, he has to continue to make adjustments. Maybe at this point the Sox need another hitting coach and a new Manager to help some of these players out of the rut they are in.
-
IF that is awful what is a .197 BA with a .567 OPS from a starting position player that is a liability in the field and on the bases? Nicky, like Remillard and Mendick, is a nice asset as a back-up infielder. He isn't part of the problem this season.
-
According to Baseball reference.com. the Sox have a $16.5M Team Option for Eloy Jiminez for 2025, or a $3M Buyout. So the Sox can Buyout Eloy's 2025 for $3 Million and save $13.5 Million and have that money to sign another DH....maybe Vlady Jr. if Bluejays don't want to pay him 20+ Million.
-
When Eloy is healthy he can hit and some team like the Cubs might take him for a stretch run. He would mash in Wrigley. "Bad baseball players ?" The Sox have several of those (e.g., AV and Bennintendi ) that can't field or hit even when healthy.
-
Cubs have shown interest in Vlady Jr. for DH but the price has reportedly been steep. That made me wonder if the Cubs they might have some interest in Eloy who could potentially help them for a post All-Star run for the Division.
-
Eloy has the recurrent hamstring injury issue so he is not going to be here next season and who knows if he will return this season. That leaves the DH spot open for Sheets or Vaughn. However will either one hit enough including with power numbers to command that spot ? Vaughn hitting around .200 with an OPS of .587 and 4 homers, 2 of which he hit recently. That is after 4+ years in the league. Sheets has been a better hitter, but still....he needs work against LH (pitchers). That 2019 MLB Draft was a real catastrophe for the White Sox. It sent 3 franchises in different directions: 1st Pick - Adley Rutchman 2nd pick - Bobby Witt, Jr. 3rd pick - Andrew Vaughn
