  1. Baldwin has missed a few deep line drives but he is an infielder and has not had much experience in LF. Maybe use him in RF if the Sox need an outfielder. But Baldwin is an athlete who can run the bases and run down balls in the outfield. He has a gun for an arm and he has HR power to all fields.
  2. Sox need Sosa, Meidroth, Vargas and Baldwin, each for different reasons and different situations. Infield is turning out to be a strength despite Colson, our number one prospect, still trying to figure things out in the Minors.
  3. The Sox played a great game and absolutely deserved that win. Best game I have seen in a long time.
  4. Vargas is relatively young (25 years old), has improved offensively and plays plus defense. Write him in as the WSox 3rd basemen this season. I Loved watching that game. Go WSox !
  5. Baldwin has been in a hitting slump but, at least LH, he can be a useful power bat that can play infield and outfield. He also has speed on the bases and can pinch run for some of the slower players. Baldwin has misjudged a few deep flyballs (consider that he has been more of an infielder) but I'd rather have him in the outfield than Rojas who is going to be a butcher out there.
  6. Based on what? I'm asking. Lack of sufficient bat speed, poor recognition of off-speed pitches, strike-out rate, lack of power, poor R/L splits? As far as the larger ball parks, Braden is 6'2 220lbs, and some of HR I have seen on YTube are what some would call bombs. *If * he hits a wall in the Southern League then he may spend a long while in the minors and could be a bust. It would men that he is over-matched by a lot of crappy minor league pitchers that will never make a major league roster.
  7. If you remove the top enormous player contracts from the equation, the respective salary costs for each team begin to narrow. Remove Judge Giancarlo, Soto, Ohtani, etc... Then consider the reality that most of that top superstar talent is never going to sign with most of the remaining teams even with like offers on the table. And no, Ishbia isn't going to buy the team and change that reality with a few high priced FA contracts. At most it would be a sugar high just like the Sox experienced after Reinsdorf signed Fisk, Luzinski, LeFlore and got lucky with Kittle coming up. Yankees, BoSox and Dodgers will, over time, rule as they have for decades. 2005 was a template for trying to win again, but that template does not involve spending silly money on a few star players. It involves building a strong rotation like we had in '05, constructing a reliable bullpen including a Closer, then having a defense that helps them close out games. You can try to buy that kind of team or you can build it.
  8. I enjoyed the win on Mothers' Day including Tim Elko's bomb. So did a lot of other Sox fans. Wish I was at that game to say hello to Nancy Faust and see Tim's HR.
  9. I agree, Vargas should have won the 3rd base job over Rojas.
  10. IMO, Venable's decision to take Leisure out (throwing 97 mph) and put Eisert in was foolhardy. Also IMO.. some of our pitchers (not Shane Smith) make too many mistakes with their change-up and probably should not be throwing it until they improve on it and get more consistency. It should not be a pitch like a knuckle ball where a pitcher releases it and wonders where it might go. It should not end up center cut, slow and just waiting to get wailed on.
  11. It is maddening that almost nothing is being done so far to change course.
  12. Chet the Jet. One of the best. I wish he was never traded to Detroit where he was part of a World Series championship. Imagine if he was on the '83 Sox.
  13. 4 game sweep in progress. Can't hit their way out of a paper bag and the relief pitching has been a joke. Then there is a Manager who just lacks the feel for Managing.
  14. The first two games of this series were extremely tough. The errors and poor judgment cannot be overlooked nor can the lack of a legit Closer or set-up man. The best we can take away from these games is our two starters who battled pretty well out there. The Sox relief pitching as it is will put us in a position to have many more maddening late inning losses. Walking the lead-off man when you have a 1 or 2 run lead? What kind of nonsense is that?
  15. Hee - hee. To paraphrase the Hawk, Stone is so far up Vaughn's ass you would need a tweezers to get him out.
  16. It seems like the only thing keeping Vaughn in good stead with management (other than his contract) is Steve Stone's on-air promotion of him. Not sure why Stone continues to back Vaughn like he is a relative but no time to play favorites. Vaughn invariably fails in clutch situations, so much so that it has become maddening. Scouts have had the book on him for years and that book continues to work time and again. Enough already. Give someone else his at-bats.
  17. There really is no down side to this news but leave it to some here to try to make Sox fans feel bad about every single fvking thing. Can't leave anything alone, can't let Sox fans be happy for even one day.
  18. Altuve looked like s%*#. Can't stand the cheater.
  19. Thaiss is 30 years old. Sox need to trade him as soon as they can given the log jam at catcher. I can't prove that Teel will hit from his stats, but he is one of those players where I just have that sense. I met him at Sox Fest and he impressed me. Same with Braden. Good prospects and nice guys.
  20. It almost seemed like Jake Meyers knew what pitches were called for .... oh wait, that would never happen with the 'Stros. Just walk that sob today, or brush him back. He seems to be on everything.
  21. True or not true, Osik is a dick for spreading those accusations about another player. As for AV, judge him from his performance at the plate and on the field. Me, I just don't understand why AV hasn't made adjustments to his stance, leg kick, and approach at the plate. He knows he needs to hit home runs to remain in the starting line-up so he often gets pull happy, strikes out or hits into some maddening, rally-killing double plays. I have not seen Elko other than hone run highlights. Maybe he is worth trying at DH, but if it was me, I'd rather bring up Kyle Teel.
  22. It seemed almost obvious (except perhaps to the coaching staff) that Martin could not find a pitch to get Jake Meyers out in the 4th. At that point you intentionally/unintentionally walk him or hit him with a fastball after which the Manager takes a slow walk to the mound to get someone warming up. Of course, who might that be? Murf? Sox need pitching help badly.
  23. Odd thing to say for you as one of the cabal of sarcastic naysayers here . Dude is not overreacting, you are.
