  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Roberts may think that way but the agent 's commisson is based on the bid. You are right but neither Roberts nor his agent are here for one transaction. If he makes it on the Whte Sox as a starting outfielder, which is probably more likely than it would be on almost any other team, He will be paid well, and he will be welcomed, as I mentioned, on a team already set up to make Cuban players comfortable. I'm just trying to be positive if you don't mind.
  2. I am hoping the Roberts and his agent chose to sign with the White Sox even if they do not place the highest bid under whatever rules are in place. I am hoping that Moncada, Abreu and a Spanish speaking Manager will be factors as well as the fact that he has little to no competition from anyone in the Sox system for a starting position in the outfield. Do whatever possible to get him. This rebuild needs some good news.
  3. The White Sox need outfielders. Any trades that involve Quintana, Robertson or Frazier should be focused on getting the best outfielder(s) possible in return. I would want an outfielder in the top 100 or close to that for Robertson and an outfielder in or near the top 10 for Quintana. The Nats need to see what kind of pitcher they can get for Severino from other teams. Good luck with that.
  4. I have it from the Offical White Sox page: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/?...alendar=DEFAULT
  5. Washington does not have a catching prospect ranked in the top ten. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/213808058/20...hing-prospects/ Anyway, Hahn is more interested in obtaining outfielders so perhaps Robertson will be traded to another team.
  6. Teams that are going for it make trades in large measure based on what they need to have. The greater and more imminent that need is, the more they will give up in return. If the Nat's relief core starts blowing games they may have to cough up Robles for a reliever or relievers. Well OK, Robertson plus Nate Jones won't be enough to get Robles, but if the Nats get desperate for a Closer, they are going to have to unload talent to some team at some point, especially if they want a Closer that is ranked higher than Robertson. It's their problem, not Rick Hahn's. He already schtooped them. If they want it again, call Rick.
  7. They have no reason to give up a very talented prospect unless the player they are getting is younger and/or under team control for a while. Todd Frazier does not fit that bill. If Sandoval falters, they'll have interest in Frazier, but they're not spending a lot on him. I am not following your logic. The Red Sox are in it to win it this year. Why would they want an unproven third basemen like Devers on a team like that instead of a guy like Frazier that could be a monster in Fenway? Also, Dombrowski has never been shy to spend money when he thinks hsi team is getting close to a championship run. "Devers is probably a 60 FV type is worth well more than Todd Frazier." This is not like trading baseball cards or making trades in the abstract based on statistics alone. Who would you want at third base in the playoffs or World Series? Devers of Frazier? That is the context.
  8. If Sandoval has any issues in Spring Training or soon after the start of the season, Dombrowski will trade Devers and perhaps more to get Frazier. Dombropwski and Boston are not going to mess around with any under-performing player on a team that is geared to compete for the WS this year. As far as Devers, there are significant question marks about his upside per the link I posted, just like there are with most other prospects. He is not close to being on the same level as Moncada and Benintendi. I want Frazier on the White Sox this season and perhaps re-signed to a short term deal unless Hahn is bowled over with a trade offer. Toddfather's contribution to the team is not just measured in stats , and White Sox fans love that guy. 40 HR is a huge factor and I bet he hits better than .220 this season. Did you see his son doing a Hawk impression? Put it on the boarrrrrrd..
  9. Sorry for my awkward sentence implying that Devers was a catcher, and the broken link about Devers. I'll try that again without using the link tool: http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/po...-red-sox-system
  10. Nick Confardo of the Boston Globe mentioned that the Red Sox would be a good landing spot for Frazier. I'm not sure Rafael Devers would be what the Sox are looking for, since they have Zack Collins who might project better and the Sox could also potentially be in play for Severino from the Nationals.
  11. Rizzo does not want to get too far behind division leaders right out of the gate. Rizzo could be bluffing as well. Perhaps if Hahn offered Robertson plus Nate Jones, that would let Rizzo sleep better at night knowing he has two more relievers in case the pitchers he has under perform. And if that is what Hahn offers, Robles has to be the headliner in the return package.
  12. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) But if the other teams backed out, should Hahn have asked for a lesser deal? Because using your rationale, the risk of Q having an arm injury is now with the White Sox I agree that is important for both sides to assess the risk of arm injury in deciding on a deal for a premier pitcher. However, considering Quintana's durability, I for one , would rather take the risk of holding Q until an acceptable deal, like the one Hahn was working on, comes along. This is something that can always be second guessed, especially in hindsight (i.e., trading away Buehrle and signing Danks),
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Yes, and imagine if one of these prospective teams opts to spend $100 Million on a comparable pitcher, through free agency. The fact that Q is so affordable greatly mitigates the very risk, to which you allude. I'm all for making that argument to whoever the Owner was that vetoed the prospective trade ! Hahn mentioned (in the interview with Chuck Garfein at CSN) that the return package in that proposed deal was constructed similar to the deal for Sale. We can't be sure exactly what he meant, but it sounds like it may have been a deal that was centered around a very highly rated prospect. That is also the impression I git from his other comments in that interview.
  14. Any pitcher, no matter where he is ranked, carries more risk than a position player would because of potential arm injury. That could explain why owners would be reticent to part with a premier position player prospect(s) for Q. IMO.. Imagine if Sale blows out his arm after two or three starts..
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Good enough for LF = still beliw average, but bat will make up for it. "Hide the glove" position afterall. Hard to forget his foibles out in LF in the 2015 playoff and of course, the play last season that he injured himself. I'd like to have him as DH though. I'd trade Fulmer to get him.
  16. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 11:50 PM) I told my Cub fan friends that I think his value will never be higher than it was this off-season. I really think having him play the OF with either further expose how inept he is on defense, hurting his value, or he will end hurting himself out there. I just feel like they should have traded him before he gets solidified as a DH-only guy. Exactly, which is why he might be worth pursuing by an AL team like the White Sox once it becomes clear that he is basically a DH who cannot be an effective every day player at any position.
  17. Cubs are planning on using Schwarber in LF (LOL) and as an emergency catcher behind Contreras and Montero. I don't think the Cubs need to make any trades but after seeing Schwarber boot some balls in ST they might conclude that the best thing for Schwarber's career is to trade him to an AL club. I'd like to see the Sox make a pitch for him if things turn in that direction.
  18. Speaking only for myself, I am not a fair weather fan. I am excited to watch White Sox baseball every year, just as long as they try to win every game they play. Can't wait to watch Spring Training games and then to go to the Sox Opener. Let's go go go White Sox We're with you all the way You're always in there fighting and you do your best We're glad to have you out here in the middle west We're gonna root root root root White Sox And cheer you on to victory When we're in the stands we'll make those rafters ring All through the season you'll hear us sing Let's go go go White Sox Chicago's proud of you
  19. IMO, no trade for Q will get done until after he is done pitching in the WBC. That gives teams more time to assess the pitching they have in Spring Training and also allows their scouts to get a last look at Q on the mound. Anyway, Q will be pitching for Columbia vs. the USA team on March 10. That's four weeks away, so perhaps it is time to take a chill pill on Q rumors until then. That's not saying it can't happen, just that I think it is unlikely. (Now that I said that, a trade probably happens Monday).
  20. It is possible that any team that is considering a trade for Quintana may be waiting to see him pitch in the WBC which extends through mid- March. I would guess there will be several scouts there watching him. Those who want a trade to happen before the season starts will be hoping that he performs well there.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 12:49 AM) A super rich owner who spent every dollar to win a World Series, but people will still think JR was better because of one lucky year. Luck is winning in extra innings in Game 7. The Sox swept the WS 4-0. Jerry Reinsdorf saved the franchise after Bill Veeck and his son almost destroyed it.
  22. I wonder if Lawrie can play Left Field like Zobrist can. I'd rather have Melky in RF than Avi.
  23. The Sox need and Hahn wants an A rated outfield prospect or at least a B+ rated outfield prospect that is not that far off from getting into the majors and contributing. Given that, many teams do not even have what Hahn wants. There are always exceptions to any general rule, i.e., some baseball prodigy like Mickey Moniak.
  24. The Astros do not have a single grade A prospect and I doubt Hahn trades Q for a bunch of Bstuff. "Grade A prospects are the elite. In theory, they have a good chance of becoming stars or superstars. Theoretically, most Grade A prospects develop into stars or at least major league regulars, if injuries or other problems don’t intervene. Note that is a major "if" in some cases. Grade B prospects have a good chance to enjoy successful careers. Some will develop into stars, some will not. Most end up spending several years in the majors, at the very least in a marginal role." http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/12/...spects-for-2017 Some fans are getting ridiculous when they devalue Q and over-value B rated minor leaguers. There is no equivalency, no recognition of how hard it is to get a top of rotation pitcher who is durable and is under a reasonable Contract for 4 years. Meanwhile B prospects are plentiful on any teams top twenty prospect list.
  25. If Frazier stays, I think he will hit for a better average, especially with RISP. I looked at an interview with him on CSN and he indicated that he will try to hit to Right Field more. He was hurt by teams shifting on him as were other power hitters around the league. Defensive shifting has become a science now and Frazier knows he has to make adjustments to beat it. If he does that * I think * he can increase his RBI substantially, even if he doesn't hit 40 HR.
