I'm not suggesting that WSox could have packed the stadium but for the weather, but there were several games that I planned on attending that I cancelled because of cold and/or rainy weather this year. Roger Bossard said that this was the worst weather for games that he could recall in 40 years. He cited the record amount of times he had to deploy the tarp. A few more terrible weather seasons and a retractable roof stadium might be considered. You really have to bundle up for early season night games and at some point, cold / wet Spring weather deters attendance.

I am not sure if you had a chance to study the plan for the Fire stadium but it all but eliminates the possibility to build another stadium at the 78 that provides reasonable vehicular and pedestrian access. Most of the parking is on a lot going into the Fire's stadium. No east / West streets cross the 3 Metra tracks. I used Google maps to check your claim about the under 20 minute walking time, even starting out outside the 78 at Roosevelt and Clark and walking down Clark or down the river somehow.. Google maps comes up with 26-27 minutes, plus the time to get out of the park and out to that intersection. So figure more like a half hour.

If a team has an ace like the Tigers' Skubal, the Pirates Skenes, Red Sox Crochet and obviously the Dodgers Ohtani, one win in every pitching rotation is almost a lock. To your point, the Sox may not have anyone in sight that can become anything like those true ace pitchers, especially if Noah Schultz, Hagen Smith, etc. do not pan out. And then there is the need for LH and RH set-up pitchers and a Closer. Now, the Sox starters struggle to stay in games until the middle innings and then it gets wayyy too stressful as Venable plugs in pitchers to try to close out games.

And then there is that.

Getz and Venable have improved the Sox and at least arguably, have made it enjoyable to watch them. I have loved the offense since the Allstar break. Replacing Mead with Vargas, Baldwin with almost anyone, and Tauchman with Braden and the line-up could look even better. Keep hitting bombs !

I'm laughing about Trump bringing troops into Chicago but no politics here so there is that. Beyond the security issue, which is substantial, a lot of fans are not going to want to park at a train stop, take a train, and return to that lot around midnight. Some will, but a lot won't. And a lot of fans have made tailgating a lifestyle. Trust me, you will see guys with all kinds of grills, coolers, and impressive spreads they lay out. It's a huge old fashioned Chicago block party if you were ever at one back in the day. We lived in St. Denis/ Ashburn and we kids loved them. So that tailgating thing has roots. Re the 78 ...NO WAY Ishbia, a billionaire private equity investor, is ever going to sign a long term lease with the Iranian born convicted felon who owns the 78 lot, and at the same time, lose parking lot revenue and bank on suburban Sox fans to change their long standing habits, expose their families to security risks, and deal with untold inconveniences. But the Sox relocating to the 78 is a moot point now and certainly will be in 5 years, especially after the Fire relocate there. Look at the site plan with the Fire stadium there. Even without that stadium it becomes clear after studying that plan that there is no access on Roosevelt (outside the ramp they propose going into a parking garage), none on Clark, and limited access otherwise, such as the one lane road through Ping Tom park. Related Dev. is trying to scam the City of Chicago and Illinois taxpayers with TIF funding that only diverts tax revenue. Hey give Auchi taxpayer money so he can develop his property. LMFAO.

Weekday games on the Southside are mainly night games. Most WSox fans who attend games regularly are largely located in the suburbs. The prospect of putting their families on trains going through Chicago and returning late at night will be unacceptable to most of them for security and practical reasons. Some fans who don't attend games, may not understand that Sox fans, like Bears fans, enjoy tailgating prior to games and then feel safe returning to their cars in a secure parking lot next to the park. Knowing anything about the culture of South side Sox fans is prerequisite to gaining an understanding of why access to the expressway and ample parking is an important part of what makes attending Sox games enjoyable for many of our fans. And no, most fans don't need to drink any more post 11 p.m. after night games so no need for more bars then there already is around the neighborhood.

One idea might be for Ishbia to outright purchase the franchise for a few Billion and give Reinsdorf what he stated he wants - the right to remain as Chairman of the Board ... for perhaps 3 years , NOT for as long as he is alive. My ONLY concern about overblown allegations of Reinsdorf being "cheap" has been because the continued use of that specific term implies something quite ugly to certain people. The fact is that JR, like any Owner, relies on many people in order to make decisions on acquiring expensive players.
