Baldwin was a butcher in the OF last year. Acuna profiles more as a second baseman. Lenyn Sosa led the team in HR and had a lot of clutch hits throughout the year but he missed some routine plays at second. No obvious roles for some of these players.It is all as clear as mud.

Agree on Abreu. Might cost Acuna who I think the Red Sox would covet as a potential answer to their search for a second basemen with good defensive skills. I think trading Acuna for a great outfielder makes sense for those who do not see Acuna as the White Sox starting center fielder or see his lack of power as a real drag. My guess is that Getz might be over-valuing Acuna. Lots of known unknowns to juggle.

Plenty of room between 33rd and 39th for the White Sox and Bears. Instead of using SoFi/Sci Fi futuristic architecture as a design predicate, use classic Chicago to inform the new design...i.e., use a border like the colonnade from Soldier field and take design clues from the Museum campus as well as from the original Comiskey park. Think outside the box or your own box.

Ishbia decided to purchase a large block of stock in the White Sox, after he initially wanted to do that with the Minnesota Twins. An objective business person might conclude that Ishbia was seeking the best investment he could make in a sports franchise. Seems logical. Others might conclude otherwise. Some seem to suggest that, once Ishbia gains a controlling interest in the White Sox, that he will use his personal wealth to personally guaranty player contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars, or in the alternative, manipulate/increase corporate debt, as private equity investors often do, in order to cover things like large player contracts. That is possible. Anything is possible. As a fan of the White Sox, I want to see the team win now. I don't care to wait for 2030 and beyond, or to imagine what the landscape of major league baseball might be at that time.

Not sure what you see but some fans see an improved team from last season for a number of reasons inc., - a better, deeper bullpen with a possible legitimate Closer. - possible improvements in hitting and power numbers from Colson Montgomery, Vargas and Lenyn Sosa. - Murakami - White Sox fan enthusiasm which was stoked with the Murakami signing. I know, positivity is not a metric that can be gleaned from this website.

Maybe stop trolling White Sox fans and post over at Bleed Cubbie Blue. You sure sound like some Cub fans I know - Always hating on the White Sox.

Half truths abound here, as usual. Some fans continue to whine and accuse Jerry Reinsdorf of being cheap when the fact is that Jerry has spent as he did in the example cited by Chuck and of course during the magical MJ years for the Bulls. "How they spent and who they spent it on" were responsibilities largely delegated to the Kenny, Rick, talent scouts and others. Watch the video again.

Every franchise but a few operate with the constraints on spending that other businesses are faced with every day, i.e., you can't spend more than you make. Unfortunately, some owners have not operated under those constraints and have created a monopoly after years of spending, advertising and promotion. Under that same model, Ishbia can choose to spend part of his personal fortune to award players with contracts worth hundreds of millions in an effort to join that "gazillionaire" owners' club. Yay. However, a better model involving some constraints on spending for every team would eventually make MLB more competitive and interesting across the country. As it stands, fans of losing teams can simply hope some gazillionaire buys their favorite team and starts spending like a drunken sailor. It looks like things are becoming a lot worse with lack of parity and fewer competitive teams. But that is the way our country has been skewing for a long time - the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

He can catch grounders but has issues with routine fly balls. Baldwin's height and reach would be assets at 1st base, but 1st base is not a position that would be available on this team, so it's kind of a moot point to argue over.

I was bullish on Baldwin's power, especially from the left side. He profiles as a first basemen which is a position that may not be available. Your characterization of Baldwin's struggles on routine fly balls is accurate. Tracking fly balls and catching them requires some innate abilities like good vision and depth perception. For whatever reason, Baldwin has not shown enough consistency defensively to pencil him in as an outfielder. That is too bad because he can hit the ball a long way.

Many posters here voiced objection when the Sox picked up a 20 Mil. option for Robert. Now we get two prospects and avoid paying the 20 Mil. and they still aren't happy. You can't make some fans happy. Let's wait to see these players in Spring Training before we trash them.

IMO, Acuna is a utility infielder/outfielder and elite pinch runner. He can get to balls hit in the gap with his speed and quickness but....yea, he's no Chet Lemon...maybe half a Lemon. Looking at highlights from his short career on YouTube, it looks like he swings hard but hits way too many ground balls. Maybe the WSox can help with his launch angle or have him try the rolling pin bat that Colson uses. As it stands, with scouting reports preceding him, infield positioning will take away a lot of ground ball hits from him. His swing angle and approach at the plate look pretty rough....he uses a violent upper cut swing which invariably results in a ground ball or swing and miss. His upper-cut swing doesn't even look good let alone yield consistent results. Again, IMHO.... IF Kelenic has a strong Spring Training he could earn the starting CF spot. If not, Acuna might be considered the front runner to start there on Opening Day. In any case, I look forward to seeing these guys battle it out for a roster spot in Glendale. Glad to see Robert, a self-centered, injury-prone freak replaced with a little gamer. I think most fans will be good with this trade over time. It is too early to grade it now.

I just don't see why some want to trade Sosa. We don't know if Sosa might be better than Murakami at first in which case they might split time between 1B/DH. I'd like to see both in the lineup.

Thank you for that beautiful story and the pic.. Wilbur and Hoyt Wilhelm threw the knuckle ball and J.C. Martin tried to block them. I have fond memories of both of those pitchers and much simpler days.

Not sure that Meidroth is really 5'10" as listed in his bio, but whatever. He walks more but just from my memory of last years games, he was not a very good base runner. 20 more HR. I'll take that every day and every way. You can't make a 20 HR deficit up that easily with walks, dinks and dunks and smoke and mirrors. But everyone has their set of favorite players and for some reason Sosa is not on many of them. He isn't a favorite of mine, but I am one who values the long ball and I just don't see where the WSox pick up 20HR over what they expect from the rest of the line-up. And while Sosa sucks on D, once again, he led the team in HR last year.

IMO, Sosa is probably going to hit about 20 more HR than Meidroth and should hit for a higher BA. I might be wrong but that is my opinion from watching the WSox last year, If it was up to me, I'd take the extra 20HR and live with a few more errors. A lot of teams put a premium on HRs , likely because HRs win a lot of games. To me, Meidroth is Madrigal 2.0, not a mighty mite like Pedroia, and for being a small player, he did not prove to be a very good base runner. Shriff loved the guy but I didn't, maybe because of the Madrigal experience.

Getz pursuit of players like Kellenic and Conforto make me wonder if the Sox feel that Braden Montgomery will not be major league ready for longer than anticipated. Also, Baldwin had some issues with tracking and catching fly balls so he might not be an acceptable 4th or 5th outfielder. If only Braden could be ready to go on Opening day, the plan for the outfield, at least at the corners, might be a lot more clear. The Sox need a defensive outfielder with a strong throwing arm to replace Benintendi in late innings plus a RFer if Braden doesn't make it up.

I understand what Benetti asked for and why the Sox were not in agreement. Benetti just became too valuable of a commodity to restrict his work to one team. Good for him. Schriff is a relative youngster in his profession. I give him a lot of credit for trying to fill the shoes of Benetti, one of the best in the country who built a local following here in his home town.

The condition of the fan base in relation to where the park is now? What in bejezus are you talking about ? And no, Bridgeport is not more isolated that that sh1thole that Auchi and his surrogates call the "78." There are 77 neighborhoods in Chicago and that vacant brownfield isn't one of them. The WSox will never move to that desolate, isolated lot.

I love going to Sox games. Can't wait for the Opener.
