  1. If a franchise wants to compete year after year, they should never get rid of all of their top talent. MLB is a game of stars. It is extremely difficult to accumulate enough players and pitchers with star caliber that will perform at that level in the same year(s). Just WAYYYY too much oversimplification and personal preferences and even some transparent grudges here to take any of these takes seriously. This has been a tough year thus far with too many late inning heart breaking losses. Some changes need to be made, but the Sox are not going to conduct a fire sale and then have a perpetual bottom dwelling team for the next decade.
  2. Tim let it be known that he cares what others think about him. That was a mistake, Fans in general don't give a good gaddamn about players. They don't view them as human beings with the same strengths, weaknesses, susceptibilities, emotions, etc as we all have. They just want to watch "their team" win. TA was a batting champion. No small feat for a shortstop.
  3. If a team wants to win a championship, they need to put together a roster consisting of a lot of star players and pitchers. You can't get away with too many players that are league average. Right now the Sox are close but need at least one more quality starter, a legit Closer, a set-up mn, and another big bat or two. The Sox don't have enough assets to trade for star players so they will continue to lose close games. It's frustrating.
  4. You don't throw a fastball to a guy with bases loaded when you have a 4-0 lead. Better to walk a guy than let him tie the game on one swing. ReyLo has natural talent and is able to throw 99mph, but that isn't enough to be a quality reliever. Grifol is a terrible Manager. He lacks a feel for the game and awareness of situations where he can make a difference.
  5. Better comparison is Carlos Quentin, and he was pretty good.
  6. Moving the White Sox has always been a wet dream of cub fans..and a few trolls on this board. The White Sox fan base is strong, widespread, and unusually loyal. Stop with this nonsense. Sox fans are more loyal than Cub fans, many of whom emerged from parents who were fair weather fans and liked watching Harry Carey's hangover rants (after late night Banana banchis at Gene and Georgettis) and trite quips on free TV every afternoon. Had the Sox won the series against the Dodgers, which basically came down to one foolish grooved fastball by ReyLo and Andrus running error..things would look brighter now. If the Sox ( Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Burger) keep hitting HR, and multiple HR in games, they are going to start winning more. Usually when a team hits 4 bombs in a game, they win. Not sure why Frazier is still on the roster. Bring up Colas.
  7. Not sure what Andrus was thinking trying a double steal. Was that Grifol's call? Really foolish getting caught on the oldest catcher trick in the book. Probably cost us the game.
  8. Eloy is a stud. Sorry you don't like the guy. He had key at bats again in yesterday's win as well as in the last few series. My point was, you take him out of the line-up and the line-up is weak....maybe sucks compared to what other teams have. We need all our big bats to compete including his. Eloy has been a clutch hitter. Watch the games and enjoy them instead of wasting time searching for adverse stats.
  9. Yoan is not a critical part to of the line-up. Our line-up sucks without Robert, Vaughn, Burger and Eloy. We need those four operating on all cylinders to compete. Romy is fine at second unless and until the Sox pick someone up at the trade deadline. Andrus has just not lived up to expectations from last season. Have to get rid of Frazier and probably give Colas another shot....I don't know....tough call there.
  10. TA is not a bad guy. A couple of missed plays might indicate that he is distracted by some personal issues or lost focus for some reason we don't understand. These players are human beings for C-sakes. He was a batting champion and can be an elitre defensive shortstop with his range and his arm. Let's cut him some slack. When TA starts hitting and Eloy returns this line-up could be what we thought it could be.
  11. The close loss is just baseball, just like the win that the Sox recently got in NY when Rizzo grounded into a DP (Thanks Cubs!) You can't win 'em all. Sox are not out of contention for the Division on June 11. That one hurt, but let's relax a bit, IMO, they Sox need to insure that they have a solid top of rotation (a One and two) heading into the next few years, so I would love for them to make Cease and Gio the pillars of it. I am guessing here but signing them up could very well prove to be a better bet than the Mets made. It just is not that easy to sign two pitchers of their caliber in their prime without laying out huge contracts.
  12. Sox need Eloy's bat and are screwed if he is out for any extended period. He has been a difference maker in the past few series.
  13. Sox do not have a legit Closer...and that includes Liam since he came back throwing 93 mph fastballs. Just going to have to try different relievers back there until one stands out over the others.
  14. Line-up was weaker without Eloy in there.
  15. I'm sick of the Eloy haters on this board.
  16. You have a lot of time on your hands...to waste.
  17. one more slider
  18. I would be OK with one W out of this series. The Sox aren't ready to compete against teams with better talent and I don't expect them to. Expectations have been lowered significantly for this team. Nothing has gelled for any extended period. Eloy , Burger, and Vaughn can only carry the team so far.
  19. That was a cool game to watch. I loved seeing the ump take one off the face mask and keel over as Moncada scored the winning run. TA7 did a good job staying in the box to the last moment then backing off the pitch. Hinch got outmanaged. They didn't hold Moncada close to second or have any idea how to defend against the bunt. Intentionally walking Sheets was foolish as well.

chitowonsportsfan: Why do you think DFAing Lynn is funny? Well OK, let's see if your attitude changes after a few more Lynn starts against .500 + teams.

DFA Lynn and try ReyLo as the 5th starter while searching on the scrap heap for a replacement. Lynn is not going to work his way into playing condition this season and that should have been determined prior to or during Spring Training. Lynn lacks balance on the mound. He falls off the rubber after pitches and does not hit the spots where he is supposed to throw. He's toast. An almost guaranteed L every time his spot comes up in the rotation.
  22. There are issues with talent evaluation from past Drafts and now up and down the system to the major league roster. The result is a team with a talent deficit compared to other teams. A lot of over-rated players over-hyped players (e.g. Sheets, Vaughn, Benintendi and even Robert) on our roster and in our minor league system, so no useful reinforcements available when and where needed. Plus...under-performance by the so-called core players abounds and we have an over-analytical Manager who puts his myopic in-game decision making through self-analysis while viewing game film into the wee hours of the night.
  23. There are some some players on the team like Eloy, Burger, Lynn, Gio, Middleton, Santos, and even Middleton that generate a lot of positive energy in the dugout, bullpen, and for fans on the field. To me, they are the heart and soul of the team. Other guys like Luis Robert Jr. and Moncada seem like they are more into themselves for whatever reason. Maybe, like other pro athletes who suddenly come into big money, they lack the focus and desire to win that they once had.
