  1. There is a lot of bias toward TA. There can be no doubt that some of it is due to the fact that he is an African American player...a group that did not have one player in the MLB until Jackie Robinson came up with the Dodgers. That group is still under-represented in the league. It is interesting to note how some perceived this fight from who they think started it to how they characterize AV for dragging TA off.
  2. Other than in NHL games, I have seldom seen teams in any sport back off and let two players go mono y mono. In this fight even the umpire allowed Ramirez to clear him out with one hand and that move did not result in any additional suspension. Forget this fight for a second, and ask yourself if MLB should allow itself to go down the same rabbit hole as the NHL with fighting and for that matter, what should be the policy of teams when a player gets into a fight? Let him alone or have his back and defend him ?
  3. I agree with Mookie. Vaughn and the White Sox acted like it was entirely Tim's fault and dragged him off the field. It was a pitiful show of weakness by a team already being accused of internal dysfunction, a lack of leadership and cohesiveness in the clubhouse.
  4. Good riddance.
  5. Katz is responsible for the behavior and performance of pitchers in the bullpen. And beyond that, he is responsible for the failure of high priced relievers who came in when the Sox had late leads and walked guys to lead off innings. Then there is the failure of some pitchers to hold batters on first after they gave them a free pass. We all watched the games and saw this too often. It was literally self defeating and is likely one of the causes for the frustration that led to bitterness and the circular firing squad that subsequently formed.
  6. Many of the issues concerning player behavior apparently involved the pitching staff/bullpen. Whether they were true or not, Katz probably should go. My guess is that Coop and other old school pitching coaches would not have countenanced any shenanigans.
  7. No question about that. It doesn't mean that AV is not good, but he is has become the prototype for what some fans want to see in their hero. I like players who enjoy playing the game and despite ups and downs in their careers, always try their best to entertain fans. I would include AV, Liam Hendriks, and Eloy Jimenez in that group. I think TA is somewhat different in that he could use some support from fans now while he has experienced some trying times. He could also use some support from players, support that he did not get during that fight. Picking him up and dragging him away only made things look worse for TA. Maybe the Sox need to start a fight with Cleveland and win it. Throw a brush back pitch to get that going next series with the Guardos. Have some balls and stand by your teammate.
  8. Hahn invited KW or JR to fire him and suggested he might resign. Hahn is a lame duck. The only reason he is still there is that JR needs some time to interview candidates for GM and KW's position as well. Also JR may want his son Michael and other family members and business partners to get involved in that firing/hiring process. Hahn over-promised/under-delivered in a very tough and competitive sports business environment. We all knew it was BS when he said it ...multiple championships? Never promise that which you cannot deliver. There is a thin line between confidence and over-confidence and that line is often coated with bravado and bullshit.
  9. Colas Defense has been pretty good. His arm strength and accuracy are exceptional. Offensively, he needs some work.

    Stay home a - holes.
  11. Leather gloves protect the hands which is why tradesmen and other wear them. The leather glove in itself does not hurt you, but it provides onfidence to strike harder without fear of injuring ones knuckles and hands. Anyway. I guess there goes the understanding of the oft-used expression "he' taking the gloves off" before a (fair) fight. Wow....unbelievable...
  12. Maybe Bennetti should announce fights.
  13. Wow you really know how to spin things and react . One can swing harder without concern about breaking bones in their hands. This elementary fact was discerned when professional boxers started using boxing gloves around the time when Gentlemen Jim fought bare knuckled.
  14. Tom Hamilton, announcer for the Guards, shouted "Down goes Anderson, Down goes Anderson" making a joke out of this. That was inappropriate as are any comments that could be taken the wrong way by younger kids who watch baseball. Maybe he should explain why he thought that was funny.
  15. Ramirez did not take off the gloves for this fight. He connected with TA on a wild swing as he was being dragged down himself. You can do a lot more damage by hitting someone with gloves on rather than bare-fisted and I bet that was the case. Tim meanwhile hit the back of his head with bare knuckles. His hands probably got injured from that. Ramirez comments that TA "does not respect the game" as translated, were way out of line. As the video show, Ramirez was tagged out and decided to point his glove right in Tim's face. There are a lot of players that respect the game that would take that as a challenge to fight and Ramirez knew that when he did it. Ideally, TA should have walked away from the in your face challenge but then I suppose he may have been criticized for backing down. For those who don't like the man for whatever reason, there is nothing he could have done right.
  16. ""the yuppification of the West Loop is extending out and this is for speculation purposes or to turn it into a planned development. He bought another lot near here too last year. Probably more. Note that this is happening near the UC and not near Comiskey." The Halsted corridor from UIC to 35th has a lot prime rehabs and upscale townhones.
  17. Nice loss to pin on Tito's Guardos sub .500 team . They ain't goin' nowhere either.
  18. Ramirez is a cocky little motherfvcker.
  19. "But Lynn was dealt to the Dodgers, and conversations shifted to Burger, who has displayed significant power but uneven bat-to-ball skills." Read more at: https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article277008218.html#storylink=cpy Like I said, the Marlins wanted Burger. They drove the deal. Hahn was looking for a cheap way to fill up the giant holes in the pitching staff on the cheap and he could not resist this. What a fool.
  20. Eder like Crochet remains a largely unproven entity that could end up with with another arm injury. This trade was obviously one that the Marlins pushed over on Hahn. He got taken. Marlins sought Burger for HR power. Hahn was not looking for Eder, just a cheap way to fill deep holes in the pitching staff. So tired of Hahn getting fleeced.
  21. All other things being about equal in terms of W/L, home runs absolutely add to fan interest and draw fans into the park. '77 SS Hitmen were a good example as well as the '83 Sox with Fisk, Luzinski, and Kittle. People who were around back in those ancient times still fondly remember those teams, roof shots at the old park, etc. No way I trade Burger for an arm. Another thing about Burger. Unlike AV who is station to station when he gets on base, Burger and Eloy have some speed and can leg out some doubles. I don't know if anyone else noticed but AV looks like he boxed out a bit, especially from the waist down and he seems to be wearing a bigger shoe size.
  22. Eloy already accepted being a DH with only occasional stints in RF . Burger was fine at 3rd base. We need HRs from players like that to win. We need more players that play the game with the joy that they bring on the field and in the clubhouse and of course the excitement of having a potential HR every time they step up to the plate. All of the emphasis on having multiple Closers, set-up men, and veteran starters ended up being a lost cause.
  23. Generally, I see advanced stats as a potential problem withe talent evaluation and player/roster decision making. Burger lights up the crowd and draws fans to the park with 450 ft. bombs. Where is that in the advanced stats? For me the Burger decision should have been simple. He earned the 3rd base job so put him there and move Moncada to second. Don't remove an asset that you can't easily replace. I would say the same thing with Eloy. No reason to trade a guy that hits for average and has his power potential. Oh, he had 19 injuries..including surgery for appendicitis, elebrating after a game, and extending his hand over the fence to catch a home run ball. Eloy will be less susceptible to injury as a DH so you keep him unless you want a lineup that is really strapped for power and is unexciting for fans. In short, the trade game has to look at things beyond player stats in order to end up with a team that is good and exciting for fans to watch.
  24. This was the most foolish Hahn trade and there have been some boners. As someone said, Sox should have simply made Moncada shift to second base and let Burger play third. Jake earned the starting 3rd base job and this is the reward he gets for it ? Jake's quick, sweeping home run swing, the bombs he hit, and his joy for the game will be missed. You can't trade that away for a pitcher. Hahn lost his mind.
