  1. The Sox have Colas and Cespedes coming as early as next season and maybe another option in the off-season or maybe even as soon as the trade deadline. Vaughn is like Kyle Schwarber was 5 years ago. Like Schwarber, Vaughn is gonna box out some and gain some muscle and weight...and get older and slower. I will bet money that he is the slowest player in the line-up right now, except when Lynn is hitting in NL games. How fast does Fangraphs have Vaughn in the 40 yard dash? I find it interesting that some people who do not go to many games and see these players perform on the field make judgments primarily relying on stats like Fangraphs. Go out and watch a few games and trust what you see for yourself, not what Steve Stone tells you.
  2. Defensive stats be damned. Bottom line is that Vaughn is slow at 24 years old and is not going to get any faster or taller. He has a large torso and a pretty large shoe size.. Irrelevant if he is at 1B or DH. As far as injuries. Vaughn almost mowed down TA on two or three plays where he ran toward him with about 100 choppy steps to catch a short fly ball. Schwarber posed a similar risk when he used to play left for the Cubs. The question of whether Eloy is a long term solution in LF is a separate issue. Arguing that Eloy or Vaughn is better or worse than the other at defense is a pretty lame way to justify that either one belongs out there long term. The issue that does warrant conversation is who gets to play every day, Abreu, Eloy or Vaughn once the Sox have better options in the outfield. I'd be happy with Abreu at 1B at Eloy at DH.
  3. For anyone who may have forgotten how good of a hitter Eloy has been:
  4. Vaughn looking better on outside pitches and sliders. After watching him at several games from my LF section, I think he should only be 1B/DH but ?thers have their own opinions on that.
  5. Buxton but is won't happen because the Twins would likely want too much in return, i.e., a star player like Vaughn or Madrigal plus a pitching prospect. I don't want to trade any decent prospects to the Cubs other than Burger and some second tier pitching prospects. Not sure that is going to get any of the big names discussed.
  6. Eloy's judgment? You mean a 24 year old player that wants to make every effort to bring back a a home run? OK< it was pre-season, but that is what competitive athletes do - they compete. It could be a game of pick-up basketball in the alley, it doesn't always prevent a guy from trying to make a play. If you want to mock him for that, well go ahead. Never forget, White Sox fans claimed Avi Garcia was a lifetime DH after he was injured diving for a ball. Now AviG is a pretty valuable member of an NL team with no DH. I think Avi has something like 17 HR ... before today's game. Unfortunately, the Brew crew are tougher and Rowdier than I thought.
  7. Saw the Eloy replays on the post game show. Eloy makes a great catch against the wall on one and then on a fly ball to shallow center, throws out a guy trying to score from third. Nice. Now I would like to see if he still has the bat speed and power he had. Could not tell much from the short Robert video other than he looked like he was doing the right thing by easing into the rehab. Anyway, it was good to see the two friends out there together playing again..
  8. The rules can be interpreted liberally i guess, but that did not look like every other appealed ruling I have seen. Anyway, It looked like that was an unusual and untimely appeal. So the pitching coach goes out to the mound , talks to the pitcher, the pitcher then gets ready to throw a pitch and the catcher goes, hold on a minute... In contrast to knowing the rules versus not knowing them, this was more about knowing how to abuse the rules. Tony is a HOF Manager who has a law degree and decades of experience. I think he knows about how this game should be played and how the rules should be interpreted fairly.
  9. As Bennetti explained it, a safe call at home means that the runner has touched home plate and the run has scored. Play over.
  10. A lot of posters here wanted to see him get his shot. Well now he had his shot.
  11. Collins protecting his roster spot before the trade deadline, He isn't gettin' traded anywhere now,.
  12. That was BenO's point. Why risk trying to go back and touch the plate even if you thought you missed it after you have been called safe? The ump's call has finality when he signifies a run has been scored, unlike a call at one of the other bases. A safe call at home, the runner heads into the dugout.
  13. I am not including Sheets in that trade. We may have have a big LH bat,,,,the kind of guy the Sox have wanted for years. I want to see more of Sheets before I give up on him.
  14. We need to come back and win this game and the series. Let's go.
  15. Yes, I agree. You have to watch the games, not just look at stats to evaluate these young players. Now Burger...he is looking like Yermin during his precipitous decline.
  16. Yoan is not stupid. He thought he hit the plate or possibly he knew he missed it. If it was the latter, perhaps he thought he might get tagged out when he went back to tag it. Then seeing the ump call you safe, why try to go back and risk getting tagged out ? I'm getting tired of fans calling Yoan lazy and stupid and Eloy stupid and crazy. They are just young men playing baseball. Cut it the fvk out with calling them stupid.
  17. As BeanO said, Moncada saw the safe sign. If he didn't he would have went back and touched the plate.
  18. I think Sheets still looks good enough to stick around for a while. . Tonight is not a good yardstick with the way this guy has been pitching.
  19. Perhaps the dominance of our starters does not carry over to the best opponents.
  20. This where a decent long man in the bullpen could come in handy if Carlos keeps struggling here.
  21. Looks like that trip back from Milwaukee will be a long ride.
  22. Avisail was injury prone and out of shape when he was with the Sox and he did not have many HR. He looks like a different player now.
  23. I also think Sheets is worth keeping for his LH power , but he lacks the physical tools to play a decent RF. We just have too many guys that fit that profile right now.
