  1. that post didn't age well.
  2. Several WSox players sustained injuries during the course of the last few seasons - Engel,, Grandal,TA, Abreu,Robert, Moncada and Eloy and Vaughn. Fear of injury is not going to win games. You put the best players on the field. Eloy is better than Vaughn, by a lot.. So is Abreu. And Sheets hits RH pitchers better than Vaughn. Vaughn has a chance to start in RF because the Sox did not fill that hole via trade or FA. One would think that opportunity would be enough for Vaughn enthusiasts to stop whining about Eloy, who is arguably one of the most important players on this team. Give it a f-ing break.
  3. Instead of parroting old Steve Stone, go to a few games, watch the players in front of you, and form your own opinions.
  4. I could see starting the season at least with Vaughn in RF, Sheets DH and Burger at 3B with Moncada moving to 2B. Burger lacks the footwork and range for 2B.
  5. I have a view of corner outfield defense vs offense that I am sure is in the minority here. It seems to me that HRs are of increasing importance to winning. One 3 run HR in the middle innings and that could decide many games. HR are also important to momentum within a game for the team and for Home field fans. I think fans are probably more inclined to go to games to see a team that mashes the baseball than one where an outfielder makes a diving catch. So..I am fine with Eloy in LF and Vaughn (or Burger) in RF with Sheets at DH, if the Sox get 25 + HR from each corner OF position and 15+ from the DH spot. Outfield errors will cost some games but at the same time 75+ HR are going to going to win a lot of games and create a lot of excitement for fans.
  6. Burger could become a prolific hitter, certainly prolific enough to platoon with Sheets at DH.
  7. Dodgers share the same facility for ST so no doubt their scouts are familiar with every player the Sox have. I think the Dodgers are a team that would be looking at the cream of the prospect crop rather than the sediment.....and other than prospects, they might be interested in Kimbrel. I have not seen any rumors about potential trades with the Dodgers so perhaps there isn't a chance for a trade between them.
  8. LOL at you as well Saco.
  9. Steve Stone picked up where he left off last season in the first ST game imploring fans to forget about Vaughn's .235 BA (in 417 ABs) and declaring that Vaughn will be a "prolific hitter" in the major league. OK, that is an opinion and one from a HoF pitcher, but at some point promotion has to yield to statistics and actual performance. Last year Stone promoted Vaughn's defense while mocking Eloy on several occasions, even when he made decent plays. I hope Vaughn improves his BA average by 40 points, (close to what Eloy hits) and doubles the amount of HR he hit last season (15). However, until Tony sees that kind of improvement, I would not blame him for platooning AV at DH with a few platoon starts at 1B. And please no more outfield starts for AV, OK he was serviceable last season in the OF, but too many balls got down in front and behind him and it is only a matter of time that he injures himself on the plays where he makes a lawn dart of himself diving for a routine blooper.

I remember Jack Brickhouse calling both WSox and Cub games on Channel 9 on our Zenith black and white vacuum tube TV. Floyd Robinson, Smokey Burgess, Wilbur Wood.. Gary Peters, Joel Horlen, Tommy John... Pete Ward purchased a home in Bridgeport and would sometimes walk to the ballpark before he played in homes games.
  11. A few fans getting out over the skis a bit after a win against the Cubs farm team.
  12. "In some order, it’s going to be Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner, Will Smith, Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner, Chris Taylor and A.J. Pollock." ---------- That order doesn't have Gavin Lux in it. Dodgers could use a Closer too.

The White Sox may have finally found a LH power bat...and Sheets is a clutch hitter. Great launch angle on most of the HR in that highlight video. Sheets height and reach would be assets defensively at 1B so I would like to see him play a few games there. Whoever said Gavin looks like Chipper Jones nailed it. Also, credit Jim Thome who has worked with Sheets.
  14. Check your own spelling .
  15. I think the Dodgers would like to bring home former Cal star Andre Vaughn. Including him in a trade along with Kimbrel (and possibly Keuchel ) might be enough to net you Lux and Bellinger, both of whom fell out of favor during certain points last season with the Dodgers.
  16. You get 30+ HR from each corner outfielder and a bunch of clutch hits. Hopefully that wins more games than stellar defense does. HR are the biggest part of today's major league game, especially from a fan perspective. It has been that way for a while.
  17. Deaths and infections from the Pandemic are falling and life is getting back to normal. Feels great. Ukraine is hanging in there while economic sanctions take hold in Ruzzia. The latest news is that Ukraine forces have captured enemy tanks and armored vehicles and are using them against the invaders. If the Ukraine army can hang in there a while longer maybe Putin's regime gets taken down. Let's hope. The economy? The deficit last year actually fell. By $360 bn and at that rate is on on track to fall by >$1T this yr Unemployment is low and new housing starts are way up in most of the Chgo area.Restaurants are filled again and people are spending. I am also optimistic about an imminent resolution of the baseball lockout as well. Baseball will be back, Fyk yes!
  18. Oscar Colas finished 1-for-3 during Tuesday afternoon’s intrasquad contest, tripling in his first at-bat. Barkett views Colás as possessing instant leadership qualities. “The other players from Cuba, it seems like, they kind of go towards him a little bit in a way,” Barkett said. “He’s got this leadership about himself, and they look up to him.”When Colás is delivering his A swing on the field? Barkett described it in part as, “Oh, wow. This guy can do some things.”Added Barkett: “He’s got some explosive power. Some big-time, upper-deck light-tower power. He can do it to all fields. His body -- he’s a fast mover, boom. And then when he stays on the ball, he doesn’t just hit the ball, he compresses it.“That difference with that biomechanics and launch angles, it basically all means we want the body to connect. We compress it, we don’t hit it. He’s able to do that when it all connects.” I want to see this guy play. Other prospects - Sox may have a tremendous future left side of the infield with Colson Montgomery and Wes Kath. These guys may not take as long as expected to transition from HS ball to the pros.
  19. I don't fall in love with any prospect or player based on hype. I watch the games and do my own talent evaluation. Vaughn has power but this far it seems like he is mainly a line drive hitter. That is great except it would be even better of he had even average speed on the bases. His power would be more impactful for the team if he hit more than 15 HR. I don't dislike the player but from what I have seen, I prefer Sheets as full time DH with Eloy in LF for most games, with Vaughn getting spots as a platoon player. Vaughn makes the most sense as an add-on in a kimbrell trade. I think a trade with the Dodgers for those two could be very useful to both teams.
  20. Hypothetically, if Eloy is the full tine DH, there would be little justification to have Vaughn on the roster. Much as I hate to admit it, Vaughn is the slowest player on the team and he probably still has some boxing out to do as he finishes growing into his 5'11" man body. Vaughn's upside is all about projection od his College numbers and the incessant promotion by Steve Stone and others. Dude hit .235 in 2021. Eloy is 6' 4". He is reasonably fast , has excellent reach and has some athleticism. However, like many major league LFers, he is out there based on his bat. He is a .275 combined hitter so, and he played after a serious injury last season. Eloy had a freak injury but he is no more injury prone that Engel, Luis Robert, Grandal, and many other players. Most players spend time on the injured list during the 162 game season. TLR asked Eloy to play a more conservative LF, and that should cut down on diving plays and the chance for injury. The Sox will live with less than Gold Glove D for 100 games if they get 30-35 HR from that position. Bottom line is that Eloy is going to be the WS Left fielder and Abreu will be our first basemen. Vaughn will be a platoon player unless Sheets proves he can hande RH and LH pitching. it is what it is, like it or lump it.
  21. I think we ALL hope that this gets worked out and that the war ends in Ukraine...the sooner the better. \That will make for a happy St Pat's day on the South side!
  22. You have been self-employed for appx. 20 years and poppysox has 40 years on you? Poppysox does not need evidence to support his "claim" as though he is in Court. He just expresses his opinion like everyone else. A few here chose to disrespect him and pile on. That is what drew the controversy out unnecessarily. At the end of the day, this kerfuffle in not about anything that substantive, relevant to the WSox, or with the mlb /player negotiations. Maybe stop piling on the guy because that is has become distracting. It's just one-upmanship, sniping and piling on by a few of the usual suspects.
  23. Poppysox opinion that he would have played for a living wage back in the day, is not a lie. Actually that was the rule rather than the exception until perhaps the 1970's. Pete Ward lived in Bridgeport and walked to the ballpark to play for the WSox. Generally speaking, for most players it was more about the game than the money back in the day. Perhaps the pendulum has swung a bit too far now where , for some players, it is all about fame and fortune.
  24. It is he-said-she-said Two she saids vs. one he-said. https://defector.com/report-another-woman-sought-a-protection-order-against-trevor-bauer-last-year/ This was how Bauer characterized his view of his sexual relationships. "I have three rules. One: no feelings. As soon as I sense you're developing feelings, I'm going to cut it off, because I'm not interested in a relationship and I'm emotionally unavailable. Two: no social media posts about me while we're together, because private life stays private. Three: I sleep with other people. I'm going to continue to sleep with other people. If you're not O.K. with that, we won't sleep together, and that's perfectly fine. We can just be perfectly polite platonic friends." https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2821508-trevor-bauer-on-his-rules-for-relationships-i-sleep-with-other-people 1
  25. The "rough sex" defense is the last line of defense used by those who engage in sexual abuse, sexual perversion and rape. He punched one of his victims in the vagina? No, that is not a fetish, that is a sexual assault. Bauer escaped prosecution because a District Atty decided that certain allegations could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, but multiple allegations and evidence of physical abuse cannot be ignored. Beyond the allegations of sexual abuse, Bauer has exhibited anti-social behavior with teams that he has been on since high school. That behavior is not disqualifying but...would you let a psycho like that go out with your daughter ? Would you want hm in your team's clubhouse, on the team plane, or for that matter having his name associated in any way with your team?
