QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) haha, stadium arcadium up for best album of the year is so funny. My god, they could've at least shaved 1.5 albums off that thing. So much filler. And then just throwing up gnarls barkley just for the buzz created. "it's so weird!!! lol" jesus. Thing has 3 good songs. Not as funny as My Humps winning a Grammy

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) A lot of coach's could have done what Weber's done with the talent he's had. Talent wise, this is an Illinois squad that's "down" so to speak, as is Indiana. Nonetheless, in a down year, Sampson has revived his troops and turned this team into a real contender in the Big Ten when at the beginning of the year people said it was a two team conference. I have played basketball, I'm well aware that plays break down. However, I don't believe these two plays can be excused. Both plays were failures on the inbounds play, luckily one resulted in the open look, still from three when shooting from behind the arch wasn't necessary. Weber built a SIU program that was very down into what is now a consistent tourney team and MVC valley powerhouse. A lot of coaches have had more talent that Illinois and not won 37 games in a season. And there is a big difference between IU playing this season while healthy and Illinois having Jamar Smith, Brian Randle, and Chester Frazier all injured at times. If Sampson was so much better of a coach than Weber, IU shouldn't have lost at Illinois and shouldn't have needed our guards to choke today to win. The 2nd play was a full court out of bounds play. Not exactly a quick hitter. Our problem is that we have no one who does a good job creating their own shot. McBride was covered well coming off the screens and Chester panicked. Bottom line is you have no idea what was called. Were they great play calls, probably not, but I guarantee what was run wasn't exactly what he called in the huddle. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Whether or not he got an open look is irrelevant. If that was what Weber drew up, it's pathetic. Same with the second play. You come out of a time out, nobody is moving, and the guy has the ball for close to ten seconds being guarded for half of that? Please don't tell me you support those play calls and the play of your squad in the last minute. I could use a good laugh, but I don't want to s*** myself after the Chipotle I just ate. I never said IU fans were full of class. So don't put words in my mouth. I couldn't care less about IU students not showing class to Bruce Weber or Mike Davis. When you have 10k drunk kids in a building, I don't expect them to think things all the way through. Just as I expected Illinois students to unjustly poke fun of Kelvin Sampson. It's part of the game, it's what makes college basketball. So get off your high horse and make a post thats worth a damn. You have no idea what is called in the huddle. Did you ever play basketball? Plays break down all the time. We don't have a true PG (although I love Chet's heart, and yes this is Weber's fault) which makes things break down. On the last play Frazier picked up his dribble to soon, and then threw it to Pruitt. If you watched, screens were set initially for McBride, he didn't get open. Nobody moved to the ball. But yeah, that is Weber's fault. Bad coaches don't win as many games as Weber has won in the last 6 years. And your hypocrisy towards Weber vs. Belichick is laughable at best. Let me also say, that they didn't show Weber not shake hands with the players but if it didn't happen I disagree with him on that. He has some pretty good reasons for not shaking hands with a couple of IU's assistants though. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Great post! Have fun in the NIT for the next few years or you explain what you disagree with and I'd be glad to continue this conversation without telling you how badly your team is going to suck for the next few years. 1st Rich got a wide open look that IU was extremely lucky didn't go down. The 5 second call was terrible. DJ wasn't close to him until for the couple of seconds and it wasn't anywhere close to 10 seconds. Secondly I find it funny that someone whose program has employed Bobby Knight and Kelvin Sampson would call Weber scum. Not to mention the way IU fans treated Mike Davis. Yeah you guys are full of class. This from the same guy who defended Bill Belichek after the Colts game. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) I love the Illini complainers. Bruce Weber had two chances to draw up a play and take the lead. One resulted in 15 seconds of passing back and forth right at the half court line that ended with a desperation three and the other was a clear five second call, probably closer to ten, in which no one moved. Not only he a poor sport, a complainer, a whiner, but the guy is just a flat out bad coach. I'm glad he didn't shake the hands of our players, I wouldn't want that filth and scum touching our guys' hands. Not to mention, our very own Zach Hansen shot the half court shot at halftime. I'll have him explain the rest. Haha. You are the biggest homer in the history of sports. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Uh yeah it has. The Big 10 isn't very good this year, the Illini only played the 2 legitimately good teams once each, both at home, and lost both (1 in a blowout), they didn't play ANYBODY in the OOC, and lost at home to Maryland (a bubble team), a neutral game (although it was in Phoenix) to a falling off Arizona team that is now only 16-7, and at Xavier (lol), and haven't won anything resembling a good road game all year. With all that, and the amount of good mid major teams this year, that resume has no shot. Tell you what go through this site RPI and tell me how many major conference teams have been left out of the tourney that had over 20 wins and were over .500 in conference. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Must win both road games, period. Penn State is Northwestern esque, so they'll win that, but you have to win both home games and at Iowa, and at Iowa would be your best win (and that's still not a very good win). 9-7 in a major conference with Illinois strength of schedule has basically never been left out of the tourney. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) I don't know about that, they got some work to do. They really have one decent ooc win and that was against Bradley and then MSU and IU in the big 10. They're 3 and 8 against the the top 50 which isn't pretty. The only thing the Illini have going for them is they do have a good sos, they need to finish at least 3 and 1 to give themselves a shot imo. Agree, should win both home games and need to split against Penn St. and Iowa on the road. -

5 second call was an embarrasment. Just showed it on ESPN, not even close to 5 seconds. We probably would have choked and missed the shot, but to lose on a 5 second call that wasn't even 5 seconds is just awful. Big 10 refs should all lose their jobs. They are an embarrasment to the game of basketball. -

Well we choked horribly down the stretch. Wasn't 5 seconds closely guarded though. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) Someone explain the definition of a travel call to the refs. Half of them are nonexistant( like Carter's right there or Stemler's earlier) or they are blatent no calls(White's rolling on the ground). Big 10 refs suck. That is as good of an explanation as any. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Non-existant travels, brutal no-call pushes from behind, no-calls on blatent rape. Just a bad day for the refs overall. Life in the Big 10. The Big 10 is the worst officiated basketball conference in the country by far. And not just today, it is every single game. Every single ref in the conference needs to go. It is embarrasing. -

Nice to see the refs came to play for Indiana today. Two just awful calls against Pruitt. -
QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Why. what's he saying? I haven't really followed it. He called out a couple of kids who decommitted from Notre Dame. Yet at the same time he had no problem recruiting kids who were committed to other schools.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) I believe he was referring to how people from Illinois accused Indiana of foul play. Nobody accused Indiana of cheating.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) Randle can't stop fouling Usually it is because he decides to reach in 30 feet from the basket and he doesn't move his feet, but he really got screwed by the officials last night. He got called for a foul while on the ground going for a loose ball which you never see in college basketball. He got called for a foul for holding his position when a NW player ran into him. And he had a really weak call go against him when Doyle posted him up in the 1st half. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 4, 2007 -> 11:34 PM) "It's no big deal for me either way," Grossman said. "I'm kind of fascinated with everyone's fascination with the shotgun, like it's a play in itself. It's not. It's just a way to get the ball in my hands." Grossman has had plenty of experience with the shotgun -- just not with the Bears. But it's safe to say he's not intimidated with this particular way of getting the ball into his hands. As a redshirt freshman making his first start for Florida in 2002, in a third-and-goal situation during a home game against LSU, a shotgun snap sailed over his head. Instead of catching up to the ball and falling on it for a loss, Grossman scooped it up, turned and fired a nine-yard touchdown pass to Jabar Gaffney. After the game, a Florida win, Gators coach Steve Spurrier called the play "one of the all- time greatest" in the history of football at The Swamp. I found the same thing, I thought I remembered reading that as one of the excuses given for not using the shotgun. Guess not
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 4, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) Lack of the shotgun. IIRC, Grossman doesn't like it.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) I think he's earned at least 2 more years after this year before you even think about firing him. He's had one down year so far, everyone is going to have those now and then. Now if they still suck over the next couple of years and it turns out that the recruiting was the cause instead of some injuries and one less than stellar team, than that's another story, but for now he earned some leeway with those Big Ten titles and the Final Four run. His recruiting needs to improve, but his last 3 commits (McCamey, Watkins, and Richmond) have shown improvement. Both Watkins and McCamey add much needed athleticism on the perimeter and are potential impact guys. Like I said, the talent level wasn't there for this to be a great team, but there was certainly enough to compete for 3rd in the Big 10. But then you have McBride get suspended for his DUI, Randle having abdominal and now feet problems, Frazier being constantly banged up, Jamar severely spraining his ankle and then losing all of his confidence, Semrau having to redshirt because of an infection his chest. Just ridiculous what this team has gone through this year. That doesn't even take into account Carter missing a game because of injury and Pruitt having bone chips in his hand in addition to the knee injury now. Very few teams are going to have success with that many players in the rotation being injured. -

Good chance Brian Randle and Shaun Pruitt won't be playing for Illinois tomorrow. The amount of injuries this team has had this year has been ridiculous. They were never going to be a great team even without all the injuries, but they had a chance to be very solid. -
