  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Yeah but as a whole the zombies really didnt get smarter, it was one zombie that basicly led them all... and It doesnt even explain how the zombies become smarter, did something happen to it or what? And like ive said earlier the one zombie was leading the way but he was never shot or anything is kind of bs and if they had a vehicle so powerful why not wipe out the zombies in the first place and why have only 1. Also the zombies walked really slow but somehow they were catching up to people and owning them, in reality they prob wouldnt of caught any in the mall until the end when they were all trapped at the fence. Basicly the whole story sucked for the film and nothing really made sense, also the characters werent nearly as good as they were in past films and than the ending was the definite worse. The zombies are just looking for a place to live so lets not kill them? Even though they just killed thousands of humans and took away the human's home. IMHO. The zombies started to get smarter at the end of "Day of the Dead" -- and Romero never states how far the time is between the end of Day and the beginning of Land. The zombies learned to adapt which you can even see in "Night" when they break the car lights out because they think it is fire. Plus, I think it was also a means of social commentary that one leader who knows how to do something can get a mass group behind him to undertake certain efforts. And the reason for just one vehicle -- SPOILER alert Kaufman never had any intent in protecting the public -- he just wanted to save his own ass. Remember, he doesn't want Cholo living in the Green and even calls him a s***. Hence, he didn't want to spend a ton of money on more Dead Reckonings especially when it cost so much money to make one in the first place. They could have tried to wipe out the zombies in the first place, but they never know where they all are. When Cholo and them are raiding the shop, there is the hidden zombie behind the desk that bites the one guy who eventually blows his head off. Plus, the zombies are a pandemic around the world. It would be impossible for them all to be killed as the zombies would eventually make their way to where there was food (i.e. people) as we've learned from all the other Romero movies. As for catching them while walking slow. It was mass hysteria -- people falling over each other, etc. etc. Odds are during a mass evacuation some people are going to get caught by the zombies, especially ones weilding clubs and stuff. As for the ending -- I think that Riley sees himself in the zombies. He is a traveler as well who wanted revenge against Kaufman as did the zombies. Riley is trying to save himself and those close to him and simply wants to be a traveler. You can kind of see it in the earlier line of: Mike: They're pretending to be alive... Riley: Isn't that what we're doing? Pretending to be alive? I think the reason he doesn't blow them away with the missiles is because he sees so much of himself in Big Daddy.
  3. Nuke, I'd assume he sleeps the same way that the amoral scumbag Karl Rove does. And if we talk Orwellian language that the FOX author wants to discuss, look no further than the "overwhelming" evidence that Iraq had WMD and Iraq was in cahoots with Al Qaeda (except neither of those were true)
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Oh no... you can't have it both ways. It's the same thing... one gets off, the other does too by the same twisted logic. Looks like Dems finally have their smoking gun to go after these guys lock, stock, and barrel... just in time to debate the Supreme Court nominee. Yeah -- I mean, yes Clinton lied under oath and should have gotten some s*** for it. Cuz, I mean after all -- he's the f***ing President, he should be able to go about a sexual affair and not get busted. I'm just saying, to me, a lie that screws up national security is more important than the 10 times Clinton got a BJ.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Of course, we all know that if the president lies under oath, it's no big deal. The precedent has already been set. One lie regarded a sex act. This lie undermined CIA operations. Seems there is a little bit of a difference there.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Al Jazeera does nothing but promote anti-American viewpoints. Why should America co-operate with them? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. That's why they should co-operate with them. And if we're really worried about them seeing the gaping hole in the border -- I think all the media attention that the Minutemen are grabbing for themselves with this story is bringing more attention to the gaping hole in security than an Al Jazeera story could ever wish to.
  7. Saw land of the Dead. I am definitely looking forward to Batman Begins and the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
  8. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Sounds good. I'm in. I like Tex's idea of some of the books being Chicago-related, too. Let's say we have to be done by Monday the 25th. That'll give us three weeks to read and a week to discuss. We can then have someone pick a new book during our discussion week. Is that OK with every one? Since it wasn't my idea, I don't want to go around and lay down any laws. That works for me.
  9. http://movies.crooksandliars.com/cnn_judge...t_050701-01.wmv Bork is not a happy camper. Pretty amusing stuff.
  10. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) I'm not an expert on this whole situation but would this lend some credence to Wilson's claim that this was pay back for revealing the state of the union lie? And is McLaughlin group a television show? Yes, it would lend credence to that claim. And yes, the McLaughlin group is a TV show. http://www.mclaughlin.com/ It is a show with political talking heads but it is a bit better than the ones on the mainstream media since this one has some scrouples.
  11. Well, I'll start this off then and then we can go from there with volunteers for future book suggestions. How about the first book being: Survivor - Chuck Palahniuk It is a novel about Tender Branson -- last surviving member of the so-called Creedish Death Cult -- dictating his life story into the flight recorder of Flight 2039. I read it before but haven't read it in a few years so I wanted to re-read it again...So I figured why not do it with this? Everybody down?
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Unfortunately while it was a well written column there are several innaccuracies. -Danger/Hazardous fire pay actually was INCREASED as was family separation pay. Additionally during the Bush years basic military pay has risen faster than at any time since the draft was abolished back in 1973. Donald Rumsfeld initiated a total review of the way military pay was parceled out. With reference to imminent danger/hostile fire pay as it stands now you have soldiers in places like CENTCOM HQ in Qatar, which is no less safe than any stateside base, recieving the same amount as soldiers patrolling in the Sunni Triangle. This is unfair and indeed is wasteful. What Rumsfeld is seeking to do is to make the level of special pay commensurate with the level of danger present. His critics, latched on to that though as wanting to cut special pays and they had his proposals defeated. As a result of this bulls*** criticism soldiers who are being shot at and dodging roadside bombs every day still recieve the same hazardous pay as those who sit in a HQ building in a completely safe area. -With refernce to medical care for war wounds. The care our wounded recieve is without parallel in our history. The facilities we have in the field are state of the art and the hospitals at Landsthul and Walter Reed are 2 of the finest hospitals in the world. Within a few hours after being wounded in an engagement soldiers are stabilized at a unit in the field then airlifted to Landsthul where they recieve treatment for their injuries. The speed at which these guys are being taken care of was totally unheard of in wars past and lives are being saved as a result. -I acknowlege that there have been problems getting equipment to the troops in the field but since the War on Terror began the military has decreased the amount of time that new equipment takes to get from the drawing board to the battlefield by some 75% under its rapid fielding initiative. Despite some logistical problems we're still, by far and away, the best equipped military in history and we have far fewer casualties than we would have had as a result. As a result of the last 2 points I made many many lives have been saved in this war that would have been lost in wars past. Yes, they didn't actually reduce the imminent danger pay due to an assload of public outcry -- but the Pentagon actually brought up the idea of decreasing these pay amounts as a way to save money. And the discussion of medical care -- just because it is very good doesn't mean that these problems could not be better addressed.
  13. I was at Lance Storm's web site (one of the best damn technical wrestlers out there) and there was a part of the site called "Book Marks" In this part, he just suggested a book and gave a timeframe for reading it. Then fans could e-mail him discussing what they thought of the book and then he'd contact the writer with everybody's thoughts and get a response back from the author. http://www.stormwrestling.com/bookmarks/books.html Just throwing the idea out there but would a dedicated few want to do our own version of this? Give ourselves 2-4 weeks per book, discuss it and then send compile our thoughts and send them to the author and see what they think? Plus, each book gets picked by a different participant to get some variety going on. I dunno if it would be popular but it seems like it'd be something fun to do -- And it'd be a real kick in the ass to that wench, Oprah Anybody be down for such an activity?
  14. I'm still waiting for Nuke's take on what I wrote. Thanks for the kind words, everybody. It is some fun community free lance work and getting paid for what I normally ramble on about here is priceless.
  15. First column runs in the paper and then I get the call from another job I wanted to take -- got hired. I'm now the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette messenger for the district of South Urbana. Its just basically picking up supplies to give to paperboys if they need them, doing paper routes that can't get done, delivering papers to people who call in and say they didn't get a paper and delivering papers that get wet/damaged if a person calls and complains.
  16. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) I think the suspension deserves it's own thread It is breaking news. Or at least the title fixed a little, Title of thread fixed to denote the suspension.
  17. Looks like the Gambler is gonna have time for some extracurriculars. Saw on ESPN that he's been suspended for 20 games. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2098862
  18. And for anybody who wants to do something -- http://booksforsoldiers.com/carepackage.html They have a message board and contact info for soldiers in Iraq asking for basic stuff like shampoo etc.
  19. Damn -- now what am I going to do with that sweet yet stern looking Sandra Day O'Connor telephone? /simpsons Everybody strap yourself in and get ready for some Borking. Two of the most important Constitutional debates of our lifetime taking place this year (the sunset provisions of the Patriot Act/introduction of the SAFE Act and the nomination of a new SC justice.
  20. Nice move by Sharon to remove some of the settlers. I just wonder if this is a means by which the Israelis believe they have a better chance at annexing the W. Bank instead of Gaza.
  21. http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldn...e/j01common.htm Here it is. w00t.
  22. Coors Brewery in Golden, CO Coors Field (for a Rockies/Astros game for some reason) Although I do plan on changing that with an obscure trip to the Buford Pusser Festival next year. w00t!
  23. And in that groundswell of nationalism, Charlie Daniels then went to try to assist in some job with the US milita---, wait no...he wrote an e-mail. And "out of our heads" for wanting to give them, especially US citizens like Jose Padilla who has been ruled to receive a trial (way back in 2003), -- I guess I missed the whole destruction of the "innocent until proven guilty" statute in America. Left wing media? Oh man, that is laughable. http://www.atwitsend.org/eabr.html Fox News portraying both sides of an issue. Oh Jesus, I am laughing my ass off. They are nothing but toadies for the current administration. And there was a reason Clinton was inhibited in his anti-terror efforts. Every Republican in Congress was foaming at the mouth to see Clinton's dick for damn near 2 years. Any anti-terrorism efforts were seen as "wagging the dog". But I'm sure Mr. Daniels remembers that (perhaps he wanted to see Clinton's mystical wang as well?) And Mr. Daniels -- I think this line is more appropriate for you, the at worst lying and at best incompetent to the point of functional retardation administration in the White House and their bipartisan evisceration of civil liberties in the name of security -- And secondly as far as integrity is concerned, I don't think some of these folks would know integrity if it bit them in the posterior.
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Shut up and get back in formation, mutherf***er! LOL -- Reminds me of an ep of MASH I watched where Burns tried to court martial Hawkeye. Burns is giving his testimony saying "Unless we all follow our leaders blindly, unless there is no deviation from the norm -- only then can we truly be free." I damn near wet my pants. Who knew Frank Burns is a White House speechwriter now?
