  1. For about 35 years, we had studs at 1B/DH one after another and now we have nothing. Its a weird feeling.
  2. What kids were squeezed out? Fletcher was bad to start the season(a lot of people here act like they've already written him off) and now he's back. Sosa has had a couple hundred ABs and hasn't looked good at all. It seems like they don't love him either. Colas? Doesn't feel like he's in their future plans. People trashed Getz when Ramos was brought up. Am I missing anyone?
  3. Everyone's joking around acting like this is impossible but if they kept Luis Rodriguez, who knows what could have happened.
  4. haha So your analysis is even more surface level than I previously thought. I figured you were arguing "Luis Rodriguez shouldn't have been traded for Corey Julks because Julks is older and I'd rather have Rodriguez because he is younger" when its actually "I don't want to acquire anyone unless they are early 20s no matter how little or insignificant the cost is"
  5. Ok. I'll answer your question even though you didn't answer mine. A GM of a team would trade for a 28 year old player if he thinks he's more valuable to them than the player they are trading away. In very rare instances, there is more to determining the value of a baseball player than how old they are. There was like a statistical revolution in baseball a while back. They have all sorts of ways to determine if how valuable a player is - birthday (most important, obviously), day of the week they were born, which hospital they were born in, etc. Ok... your turn again... Tell me why he shouldn't have been traded in addition to him being younger than the guy he was traded for.
  6. All things equal (and without knowing anything about the particular players), you'd rather have the younger guy. That's fine. But if you deal a couple of them that you don't think will "click" ion order to get guys you do want, its not the end of the world. Definitely not "fire-able" or "malpractice."
  7. We should sign 15 guys who can't legally drink from College of Dupage baseball team and package them for Ohtani + cash.
  8. Chris Getz was an awesome Farm Director. He had a hand in bringing along future stars such as Jose Rodriguez and Luis Rodriguez. Too bad he's the worst GM in the league and is getting rid of all this super elite talent.
  9. He's going to hit 92 twice in his next outing and half the board will start telling everyone the Astros unlocked him and he throws mid to upper-90s now.
  10. This is such a insignificant trade that I don't care. I wont pretend that I knew who either Julks or Rodriguez were yesterday but I am pretty sure neither one will be anything for any team. I'll trust the guys who see Rodriguez pitch daily over randoms at their work computer googling "Luis Rodriguez age." I'll also assume that if getting rid of Luis Rodriguez was such a horrible move that is a "fireable offense", we could have gotten something better than Corey Julks.
  11. Who gives a f***? Do you have actual opinions about Luis Rodriguez or are you just looking at their birthdays?
  12. lol, are people angry the team won some games in the last week?
  13. Moncada had years to cement himself as the 3B. He didn't hit enough the last 4 years to guarantee his spot when he returns from injury in his final year with the team. I have no issue with playing him at 2B, 1B, RF or just dumping him. I don't hate him as much as some people here (I like him more than Eloy, who I think is beyond worthless) but when he gets back on the team, there's no reason you need to give him his spot back.
  14. Crochet relates to Eder because they were born within a year of each other, lost time to injury, and drafted in the same weird COVID year. You were cool with putting Crochet back in the minors but see it a red flag that Eder is still there. I do expect him to be up in the next year or so. Does anyone expect Eder to be making his MLB debut in 2027-28? Eventually he'll either make it up to the majors or he wont. They traded a 3B with an injury history who isn't a great fielder but was on fire offensively for a former highly regarded starting pitching prospect who had lost some value because he was coming back from TJ and a foot injury. If the centerpiece for a Luis Robert trade was Jake Eder, I wouldn't be happy. But it was for Jake Burger and he seems to be moving in the right direction. We'll see what happens.
  15. Didn't you want Crochet to go back down to the minors this year? They were drafted in the same year. What's the difference in the big scheme of things if he's a year behind?
  16. He missed a season due to COVID and then had Tommy John. Its not like he's been playing in minors for 5 straight years. He'll be 25 the rest of the season.
  17. That's the key. I don't hold a guy like DeJong against the new front office because he was clearly a placeholder for a lost season. But they'll need to show they can identify position players in that price range you mentioned starting next year. The FA class doesn't excite me either but there are always guys. Let's say we find one 1B, DH, RF, 2B via deadline trade and then $40 mil to find the other three in this list. I don't think it makes the Sox contenders but they should be able to field a team that is respectable. First base: Paul Goldschmidt, Pete Alonso, Rhys Hoskins (opt-out), Anthony Rizzo (club option), Josh Bell, Rowdy Tellez, Christian Walker, Ryan O'Hearn, Carlos Santana Second base: Gleyber Torres, Brandon Lowe (club option), Ha-Seong Kim (mutual option), Whit Merrifield (club option), Wilmer Flores (player option/club option), Jorge Polanco (club option), Brandon Crawford, Brandon Drury, Adam Frazier (mutual option) Shortstop: Willy Adames, Tim Anderson, Miguel Rojas (club option), Amed Rosario, Paul DeJong, Garrett Hampson, Joey Wendle Outfield: Juan Soto, Cody Bellinger (opt-out), Alex Verdugo, Michael Conforto, Joey Gallo, Tyler O’Neill, Joc Pederson (mutual option), Anthony Santander, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (opt-out), Teoscar Hernández, Aaron Hicks, Andrew McCutchen, Kevin Kiermaier, Max Kepler, Harrison Bader, Mark Canha, Mitch Haniger (opt-out), Hunter Renfroe (player option), Manuel Margot (mutual option), Michael A. Taylor, Charlie Blackmon, Adam Duvall, Randal Grichuk (mutual option), Jason Heyward, Jurickson Profar
  18. Makes sense... and my point is they will have money to spend. When you have a CF, young pitching coming up, kids at 3B, SS, C, only one bad contract in Benitendi, and don't devote $90 million to a bunch of RPs, there's going to be money to spend... especially if you can trade Fedde, Kopech, etc. for, let's say, a future starter in RF.
  19. Yeah... I meant at the deadline or in the offseason if they think he will leave at the end of next year and they feel good about their ability to get pitching on FA market with Bannister, he could be dealt for prospect to fill an area of need and you can use that money to find the next Fedde.
  20. Alternatively, if you feel good about your ability to find FA SPs on a yearly basis and don't think Fedde will re-sign, you could deal him at the deadline for a young player at one of the positions of need and reinvest his $7.5 million for another guy like him. This is why I get tired with all the people who act like they are decades away. There's a path here.
  21. They'll have money to spend. They have guys penciled in for LF, CF, SS, 3B, C for next year. They will probably have a rotation of Crochet, Fedde, maybe another FA singing in the Fedde/Clevinger mold, and then a parade of kids like Thorpe, Nastrini, Cannon, Bush, etc. Between trades at the deadline this year, offseason trades, and free agency, they need to go out and find a RF, 1B, 2b, DH. Clevinger, Flexen, Soroka, come off the books and that can turn into a $7,750,000 SP. Let's say they get rid of Maldonado, Stassi, Nicky Lopez, DeJong, Vaughn, Pham, etc. That's $16,556,124. Moncada is $24,800,000 Eloy is $13,833,333. You could pocket the Eloy money or use it to pay for raises and still have $40 mil to play with. At deadline maybe we turn some guys into a DH and 1B. Then in the offseason we would sign a Ha-Seong Kim or Gleyber Torres and a Verdugo or Santander. That's a watchable team and probably less payroll than current year, right?
