QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) well its really easy to just click on the box score and see that glasnow didnt make a throwing error that day. I was under the impression that he was just throwing that date out as a general example. I do wonder who the pitcher was, but i doubt that it was glasnow who had only 2 minor league errors last year Hmm maybe. Or it could have been ruled a hit and no extra base taken. Who knows.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...nt-ken-williams KW mentioned a specific pitcher had "the thing" (trouble throwing to bases) from a game he pulled up on July 23rd. I just checked, and sure enough Tyler Glasnow started for the Pirates that day and lasted 3 innings.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) I'm sure Severinos defense is advertised, but, I'm kinda questioning why we are falling over ourselves to get a likely backup catcher. This is what i'm thinking. If Robertson's value is this low, why not give him half a season to try to re-establish some of that value? Unless the true motive is to cut salary....

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) At this point, you have to assume Q is here. The window has closed on this deal until at least June. Most likely. Unless a would be contender gets a major injury during spring training or the WBC. -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Then I'd like to know why he wasn't moved. He's already said two trades fell through at the ownership stage by the other team. He can't control if opposing owners wont sign off on deals. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) He's scheduled to start today. If he doesn't pitch then we should be worried. This is Tommy John season. You certainly he is ok, but if he is going to get TJ...now is the time.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) Shields is a joke. He doesn't have anything to prove? He's fine with that 7.00 ERA? Good god. In the same line he said he has nothing to prove but he wants to prove it to Sox fans. LOL!

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) They ate majority of Danks' $15 mill salary last season to release him so I assume they are open to eating salary to make a trade. They were eating that money whether he stayed here and continued losing games or was released. They minimized the damage by releasing him.

I want to dump players as much as anyone, to secure going on the 'Beer Run'. That said, I'm not so sure trading Robertson really makes this team worse. He is probably the only guy I'd prefer they hold on to until the deadline. See if he can rebuild his value back up.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Sounds like an Astros trade is unlikely based on this tweet from MLB Network Radio: Probably just me, but the posturing actually gives me a glimmer of hope on something happening. I'd think if he really thought he was done, the answer would be more along the lines of 'We're excited where I team is at and ready to go to battle' or something like that. -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Keller, Glasnow, Bell, Hayes, Diaz...I can't figure out who the "SP currently in MLB" is, unless they're just naming Glasnow twice. Not a big fan of that deal. Meadows, Glasnow/Keller (I prefer Glasnow because the White Sox are great at fixing control issues), Bell, Hayes probably gets it done for me. I think he's considering Newman a top 50 prospect, even though he's #55 now. Because the same guy previously said the Pirates absolutely won't move Bell or Meadows to the Sox. So I'd think it's probably Glasnow, Newman, Keller, Diaz, plus whatever SP he is talking about...maybe a salary dump? -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Jeff Todd is insane. He said in the MLB Trade Rumors chat that the Sox would offer Q for Bregman straight up and Houston would say no. Lol ok. I believe it and I wouldn't blame them. If you have a hitter that you believe will be a star and he's MLB ready, you just don't trade them period. It's not even a question of what is worth more...they simply aren't available. That said that's why I was hoping we could bag Kyle Tucker in a deal before the season starts. Because it wouldn't surprise me if he played himself in to unavailable-ness by mid-season as well. Of course, Rogers reports that is already the case, who knows if that's true. -
QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) This is why I think they will never COMPLETELY tear down again. Jerry would never sign off on a full season of no one paying for tickets to see the team play. Getting the #1 pick in the draft next year is not as important to them as it is to still have fan turnout. If they have to punt on Seth Beer so be it, but they will stagger the process to make sure there's always a few reasons to buy a ticket. Do we really think the franchise can withstand a 60 win season and what that would mean financially? They have a hard enough time drawing people to see a 75 win team. Yes I think they can withstand that. All MLB teams make a ton from TV revenues. They will still profit. There's a reason why the Marlins are selling for 1.6 billion dollars now. That said, that doesn't mean they won't want to make more money right now. I just hope they aren't shortsighted about this. If you get a Seth Beer or some other potential superstar here, the number of tickets he will help sell will eventually dwarf what you lose in 2017 and 2018.

I can get around no Martes, but if they won't include Tucker, then forget them. -

Really hoping they get this done with Houston and Kyle Tucker is in the deal. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) They are absolutely one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. Why do people think otherwise? I see 3 or 4 teams that could very well only have 50 something wins. I just don't see the Sox as that depleted. They have a below average offense, and assuming Quintana stays, they may hold their own as as average, or slightly below average staff. Infield defense should be solid, outfield defense not so much. That isn't the makings of a team that will lose 105 games IMO.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) I am stunned at the lack of activity with the White Sox. I am glad they aren't settling, but I highly doubt the offseason rebuild plan was trade Sale and Eaton for some prospects, get a couple of guys off waivers, sign Geo Soto, call it an offseason. That's pretty much it. I thought they at least would have made another trade or two , even minor, and would have signed some more intriguing Spring Training invites. I'm surprised as well. I think the greatest asset out there for the Sox to acquire to help the rebuild lies in the 2018 draft. So this lack of activity is probably going to cost them big in that draft. It's hard to imagine them being in the top 3-4 picks as the rosters stand now. And even if they do move Q and others at the trading deadline - it will probably be too late to make a run at a top pick. I hope the extra(s) they are holding out for in these trades is worth it.

Report: MLB Plans To Test Extra-Innings Rule Change In Lower Level Min
Soha replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think manager's use of bullpen's is the biggest problem. When they're changing pitchers every batter or every other batter for the lefty righty matchups...that's what you get. It didn't used to be so crazy with pitching changes. -
As the roster stands right now, I'll go with 76-86. That's acknowledging that we lost Sale and Eaton, but thinking they also underachieved a bit last year. And sort of like how teams often get hot in September when they're out of the race. This team will be playing in that type of atmosphere/mode from the start, and the lessened pressure will likely result in more winning than expected IMO. I'm not as excited about the rebuild as I was in early December. I really thought Hahn was going to dump the talent and we were going to go on a 'Beer Run' as other posters have called it. It doesn't appear that is going to happen though. Not a single trade in over 2 months....sigh.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) Why? Their rotation is absolutely horrific and they have no shot at winning anything right now. Cashman said the White Sox are right now where the Yankees were last summer. They're doing the same thing we are. It's the same thing as the Sox wouldn't turn around and trade Moncada and Giolito for anything either. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) I wasn't aware that you were privy to the negotiations. What is the latest Rick and Mike have been kicking around? Either way, he's right. You're not getting one of the best prospects in baseball for a mediocre/average closer.
-
I think 10th is a little generous. But at this point, I don't think we're bottom 5 yet. They need to move Quintana and they need to move a bat or two. Unless they aren't gunning for the 2018 draft, which would be disappointing.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) Even a hypothetical Quintana to the Nats trade gets hairy. There's no way the Nationals could pull it off without completely gutting the farm that is already hurting for the loss of Giolito, Lopez and Dunning Robles + Fedde + Soto + Stevenson/Severino? I can't see the Nationals having enough left to convince the Sox I think we will be pleasantly surprised if a Robertson deal gets done what we get in return Yeah...I don't expect this to happen. I think it would be the Nats turning this down, not the Sox. It would take them being willing to completely gut their system to go for it in a possible last 2 years of Harper. Don't see it happening.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) True. Either way, there is no way I would settle on Q if I was Hahn. Beer looks good now but he is far from a sure thing and there's no guarantee the Sox would get to take him anyway. Making him an integral part of the deal is not wise. The reason to do the deal is Robles, who some think could be the best prospect in baseball very soon.
