QUOTE (spiderman @ May 21, 2017 -> 12:15 AM) I didn't realize that being a reliever would elevate his value. I know Andrew Miller and Chapman brought in high value last year but they were considered elite. Will the White Sox eat any salary to get more back? I'd love a top 30 guy, but is that possible? You never know, but I would doubt it since they seem to be spending $50 mil or so on Luis Robert today. I like the idea of Swarzak/Kahnle added to Robertson. I'd almost take it a step further and offer all 3 of them for Robles. That's offering Washington an almost complete bullpen overhaul - but at the cost of their prized prospect.

May 20th Game Thread: White Sox @Seattle Mariners

What a start! They must be excited about Robert too! -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) Schwarber OR Happ, Jimenez and Clifton for Q, then Cubs' fan will really be shook. And no, we're not going to settle for Almora. Guess he's temporarily bored with IT out of playoffs and the Cubs mired in mediocrity pitching-wise. Hmm, I might be tempted if they offered Jimenez, Almora and a lottery ticket or two. Getting the #11 prospect in baseball is a big get.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) Congrats to the front office for making this happen, money be dammed. Another potential building-block piece. Well done! Well said, Kudos to our front office and to Jerry Reinsdorf for re-investing the money saved from salary dumps in to signing this guy. This can only make us all the more excited about this rebuild.

His instagram profile picture was changed again. He's not wearing any hats in the new one.

OMG this is exciting. I was convinced much of yesterday we were losing him to St. Louis. I still want to see the Sox release news on this. But... YESSS!!!!!
-
QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) On the day he is eligible to sign to one of the two rumored teams in the running? I unno man. He is probably excited, this is one of the biggest days of his life, I don't think an action like that is just " Better update my IG photo" If this isn't him signing here, this is one of the greatest troll jobs ever.
-
The Sox do have really good momentum going right now with the rebuild. If they sign Luis Robert in the next week, that momentum will carry at least in to next season.
-
QUOTE (yesterday333 @ May 16, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I feel like his contract makes him so much more desirable than anybody else on the market though... having a cheap TOR for many years is better than an expensive half year rental. If you look at him as a long term solution rather than a temporary fix he will still be in high demand. I agree with this, though to me that makes him a better off-season trade candidate. On another note - did you all see the Daily Herald is proposing a Quintana for Schwarber straight up trade? http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20170515...a-for-schwarber
-
QUOTE (striker @ May 15, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) If the division races stay close like they are now, then someone will pay big for Quintana. We could have a huge fire sale as teams will try and separate themselves from the pack. Rebuilding teams like the Reds and Brewers could be buyers for Q It's really hard to envision Quintana getting moved this year. There's about to be a lot of pitching available on the market...and those guys are having better years than Q is having. With Quintana having a bit of an off year...why would any team give up a lot for him? It wouldn't make sense. On the flip side, if you're the Sox, you don't move him for less because he's having an off year. The contract/control situation allows the Sox to wait this out until Quintana gets back on track and that's what they will do. Now, if Q does get his stuff together and goes on a nice run over the next month, then maybe things change. But you're still facing a market that will likely have plentiful options for teams needing pitching. Especially now that teams no longer get compensatory picks if they lose free agents. That will send teams in to seller mode a lot faster than previously.
-
All in all, the tank hasn't gone too well this year. Not only are they losing ground for the top picks, but Quintana's poor year so far has at least temporarily neutered his tradability. I guess the 2 big pluses are Avi and the bullpen guys. Will these guys keep it up long enough to get good returns in 2 1/2 months?
-
This guy has been fun to watch. He could make for an excellent sweetener if Quintana gets moved. Maybe push the other team over the top and give up the big package.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Whatever happened to all the rebuild guys, team must lose for draft picks? The guy has sucked. He is a rule 5 guy, and there is a 99.9% chance when you throw a rule 5 guy directly in a major league rotation, he will suck. The team is going nowhere. Why are the White Sox widely criticized on this board for "rushing" prospects, but every damn time there is the first sign of a guy sucking or of a minor leaguer going on a roll, the same people who b**** about it, want them to do what they b**** about? Let guys develop. It isn't necessary to see what some of these guys can do at the major league level yet. Make sure they are ready. Let Covey get destroyed while that happens. A good week, a good 2 weeks, a good month isn't proof. If you really want a rebuild, you have to be patient or it isn't going to ever work. I agree with this. It's weird how we see people saying they love the rebuild, then the same people complain when the Sox are trotting guys out there and failing. How many times do people need to hear that winning isn't the point this year? Protecting and properly developing legit prospects is the point. Nothing at the big league level should compromise that in any way this season.

Bloopers, bad defense, walks given to players that should have struck out. This just isn't Q's day.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 7, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Surely those runs get changed back to unearned at some point? I doubt it. Homer official scores usually stand.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 7, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) And he's still one of the best players the Sox have. Umm, no
-
Eeek, a ridiculous homer call by their official scorer raises Q's ERA .36. That's nice.
-
Box score says 2 earned runs. Shouldn't they be unearned, since thee sac fly would have been 3 outs if not for the error?
-
Feel bad for Q. First the umps cause this rally, now bad defense keeps it going.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 7, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) He swung at strike three. Bad call by ump on the "check swing." Yeah and the previous batter should have been called out on strike too. These umps are rough today.

May 6th Game Thread: White Sox at Baltimore

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) I don't think he's going anywhere Well if he is, it certainly can't be before Luis Robert decides on where he's signing. Not that there would likely be a trade in the next 3 weeks. -
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 3, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) This is exactly right. I think one of the barriers to trading Q is that there are a very limited number of teams with the prospects to meet the Sox asking price there. Adding another starter might move the needle enough to get a team to cough up that package. In the alternative, the Sox also need to start adding depth to the system on the position player side. If you can't get a team to bite on the Q asking price, even with Gonzalez or Holland added to the deal, you still potentially have a piece or two that should be very movable for value at the deadline. Or adding a reliever? Washington won't move Robles for much of anything. But in the heat of a pennant race, maybe a Q + Robertson package would entice them to include him in a deal? Beyond that, if the Sox can sign Luis Robert in 3 weeks, to me that takes a lot of pressure off having to move Q. I would at that point be ok with it if the Sox chose to keep him for the long run. Because I'm not sure they could ever get the proper value back for him.
-
It's not about patience, because we have all the time in the world with this rebuild at the beginning stages. My question is - is he letting his struggles at the plate affect him on the field now? That's one of the dangers of promoting a player too fast. We all see his potential and think he can be a very good player in the future. I'm just wondering if him not playing at the proper level right now will be detrimental to his future. I hope not.
-
He just made back to back screwups. One wasn't an error because he recovered to get 1 out (it should have been a double play). This kid looks like he belongs in A ball, both defensively and at the plate.

Looks like it's raining hard there. Surprised they didn't stop it.
