  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) WOW 670 The Scoreā€Verified account @670TheScore 27m27 minutes ago Michael Kopech has impressed #WhiteSox to extent that he'll have chance to win a rotation spot next spring training, Nick Hostetler says. Even if he earns it, don't they want to at least wait until mid May for control purposes?
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Sox need to trade MiGo and get Covey back in the rotation. Where are Axelrod and Belisario when we need them? But seriously, it's nice to hear that the depth of the draft will make this pick's spot not the biggest deal in the world. As long as they don't go 11-9 again in their next 20 games. Then we might be looking at picking in the bottom part of the top 10.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Samardjiza? Latos? Holland? Shields? Samardjiza definitely regressed. Holland and Shields are about the same. If you recall, Shields was getting bombed leading to his trade away from San Diego. But again, I never said every guy improved. But enough have to make me feel he does a very good job.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) It is all dependent on what you have to work with. If you have junk, they will be junk. Even though a few pitchers have left the White Sox struggling and become legit, not many hitters haven't left the White Sox the past decaade and become much better offensively except for Nick Swisher, and it was well known, he didn't work with White Sox coaches. Yet when the offense was bad, it was on the coaches. That would be like blaming Cooper for Chris Beck sucking, and Derek Holland giving up another home run. That has always been my point about Coop. For some reason he hasn't been treated like other coaches. If the guys sucks, it wasn't his fault they sucked. Position players suck, its the hitting coach or whoever is in charge of the defense, or the manager. I don't so much look at how guys did after they left the Sox, as much as how they changed when they came to the Sox. Just in recent years, guys like LaRoche, Dunn, Frazier...the bottom fell out on these guys when they came here. It tends to work the other way with pitchers.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Considering some of the employees that seem to qualify as a job for life under the Reinsdorfs, it's not necessarily a ringing endorsement. Ozzie would still be managing if he didn't set it on fire. Robin would still be managing if he wanted. Not many people are asked to leave. And this conversation was a response to a response to my post as to why I find it odd Don Cooper is bulletproof to most White Sox fans, considering who they have layed blame about failure and given credit for success for everything else. Again, I don't have a problem with him, but the fawning over him any time a pitcher does well is something I find curious. You seriously do not see all the guys that have improved with Coop over the years? I think that hitters have generally gone the other way with the White Sox over most of the same years would make it all the more obvious to everyone. Nobody is saying he is perfect and that every guy improves. But he's done well and it's kind of ridiculous to compare him to other underperforming employees of JR that have been given 'lifetime contracts'.
  6. These guys are fun to watch now. It's unreal that they could dump as much talent as they have, and feel every bit as competitive as the team was a year ago. Also the schedule since they finished with the Dodgers has gotten dramatically easier and for the most part it will remain that way the rest of the way out. I hope the Sox consider an extension for Avi - not sure what the costs might be or if the numbers would work. He has hit all year other than when he played through the injury. What a career turnaround year for him.
  7. Like I said a week or two ago, this cupcake schedule doesn't work well with getting a top 2 pick. The 9th pick currently belongs to Atlanta and they're only 5.5 games of the Sox. On the flipside, when you get dominant performances from future guys like Lucas Giolito, it's hard to complain.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Phillies down 1-0 early. Giants off today. If the Sox pick anything other than 2nd, I'll be surprised. The Tigers are starting to creep up on the Sox and they have a bunch of games left. The Sox need a good old fashioned 7 or 8 game losing streak right about now
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Sox are getting the 1st or 2nd pick. Book it. I really hope you're right. But I just don't see this as a lock like many of you do. This team keeps fighting. And they had a few games recently that they should have won but didn't. They're playing way better than you'd expect from a bottom feeder. And now the schedule gets cupcake easy for most of the rest of the way.
  10. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) Is this umpire a Rangers fan? I mean that's obviously foul......... That was odd. Wasn't even close.
  11. Surprised Saladino didn't know that was going to drop in.
  12. The Phllies and Giants play 4 this weekend. This would be a really good time for the Sox to lay an egg in Texas. As for predictions, I'll go with the Sox ending up with the 4th pick in the draft. The tough part of the schedule is now behind us, and most of the bottom 7 or 8 teams just don't seem to win very often.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) How? This team is going to have the same core, plus Lopez and maybe Giolito for the majority of the year. No one else is coming to help for the first half of the season except more scrap heap guys. Not that they are likely to be big impacts. But the Sox are probably going to buy some potential flippable free agents this winter. They absolutely could help win some games at least. The odds are they will focus on the bullpen - since many other position they might want to fill with homegrown players.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) I agree. Right now you are looking at a 110 loss roster. You figure Anderson will be better. Moncada will be better. But the rest is flippable free agents and Charlotte Knights. The Knights are 20 games under .500. I don't think they have the guys that make this anything less than a 95 loss team and probably worse. If Lopez comes up and pitches well, Giolito maybe makes the team and does well, Rodon continues his progress....I think it's very possible this team falls in the 5-10 range next year. The SP stands a chance of being improved tremendously.
  15. The Giants won also. The Sox have opened up a 1 game lead for the 2nd pick
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Most research shows kids form their permanent sports attachments at 8-12...so they've already lost half a generation of potential young fans. That definitely applies to me. I was 11 years old in 1983 when the Winning Ugly Sox took over the city. It won me over bigtime. Prior to that season I was a fan of both teams. And I know it took hold there, becasue I remember laughing about Leon Durham's error the very next year in the playoffs.
  17. I'm going to miss Melky. Hope he kicks ass in KC.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 12:51 AM) Yes, but the product is so bad they should do something very nice for these fans. Maybe free parking the rest of the year or like I suggested LOTS of free food and drink. Especially season ticket holders. They've totally switched this team's roster and again, the pitchers gracing our mound are disgustingly bad, two or three who arguably should be in the independent league. It fells like half our roster right now doesn't deserve to be a MLB player. You know, but fans for the most part love this rebuild. You don't seem too, but most of us do and are willing to suck it up for a few years for the betterment of the future. As for doing things for the fans. It seems like the giveaways this year are better and more frequent than ever. From the Hawk alarm clock, the jersey yesterday, the stormtrooper bobblehead. My sister is a Cubs fan and she is going to the game for that Stormtrooper bobblehead..I mean how cool is that? Their marketing people are hitting a homerun this year.
  19. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) There is absolutely no reason to give up on 2018. If they do I lose a lot of faith in the future. But knowing what I know about Hahn, Kenny and Jerry I think they feel the way I do. The farm is loaded, they have talented players set to be arriving at a consistent pace and tons of money to spend. They can seize a weak division in 2018 if they get a couple breaks, but the goal should be .500 baseball. My guess has been that they only spent $50 million on Luis Robert, because they knew the payroll would be vastly lower for at least next year. In other words, I think they re-allocated some of next year's payroll to sign him.
  20. QUOTE (palehose1 @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) "Anyone who thinks we can catch Cleveland is crazy" - Jerry Reinsdorf as the Palehose were 3.5 games behind at the trade deadline http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...0729-story.html I agreed with JR. They weren't catching the Indians.
  21. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) It's strange seeing people excited over this kid and so down on Cordell. I personally view Cordell more favorably, but I wonder if people would have felt this kid was an appropriate return for Swarzak? Cordell seems pegged as a 4th outfielder. You can sign those guys for free every winter.
  22. My God, anything that can get an out has been moved. The Sox look like they're going balls out for 100-105 losses lol.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) You won't have the decency of the dearly departed. Robertson, Kahnle, Swarzak, Q.....without those guys, this team would be even worse, and no one would worry about draft pick position. It would be etched in stone. The team hasn't won a game since the 2 trades. That was kind of my thought. They haven't won a game in 16 days. This is as low as it's going to get. But yeah, I get that the record might be a little worse because of the first few months this season.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Even if they don't get the 1st pick this year, it's no big, because they will absolutely get it next year. If you think the Sox are bad now, just wait. I don't know how they could possibly be worse next year than they are now. I mean, we have 5 bad starters right now and a gutted bullpen. Even if a few of these guys come up and struggle badly, how much worse can they be than the garbage we're watching now?
  25. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Just tank baby this season is lost and most won't remember beating the cubs this series but come next June all will be wishing we had the largest bonus pool and the option of choosing Singer/Turang/Beer first. I agree. If the Sox have a 13 game losing streak heading in to the Tribe series on Friday...that's ok.
