Also every poster who talked about Shields being "fixed" after his fluke run, and everyone who sarcastically dismissed people pointing out his peripherals

I have a feeling that there is one person in particular in the front office who also makes light of Periferral stats. Too bad Jerry didn't let him go to Toronto

Starting pitcher 5.78 ERA and reliever 5.77 ERA. Shields is doing his best Samardzija impression where a hot streak before the deadline makes a trade seem likely, only for him to fall apart immediately after the deadline passes

Conley 2-2 off Shields. At least he didn't allow a homer to the pitcher :)

From three hits all season to five, 67% increase.

The defense that inning he gave up the lead wasn't great, but what a trainwreck. The worst part is how long the fans had to wait to get rid of the Danks baggage on the payroll.

Then following up with Albers?

Embarassing.

Why can't they DFA Shields? Nobody will touch that contract, then send him to the minors and maybe he walks away from the game. If he doesn't walk away at least he gets to work on getting better in the minors.

Not a realistic approach when dealing with a veteran

Because in order to DFA him they would be on the hook immediately for the remaining $25 million on that deal.

Shields could sign with someone else on a spring training invite next year to see if he has anything left and if he has anything left that team would get him for nothing while the White Sox paid him $27 million for these 3 months.

We need to hire Terry Collins next year with all his motivational gifts, lol...and somehow Renteria will be bypassed and so will all the interesting and innovative candidates under age 45.

Purgatory.

Hire the Big Hurt

I would take Thome or Rowand, but they absolutely need to think outside the system...can't say outside the box, because they already hired someone with zero experience.

In the end, the Cardinals' talent pool has made Matheny look better than he really is (numerous articles begging for him to be fired), and Ausmus has suffered under comparisons with Leyland's track record and an aging roster. Managers without any experience, just not a sound strategy.
