Assuming Ramos doesn't take a 1-year pillow deal with the Nats, I'd like to try to sign him to one.

Even though he's not going to be able to play until May / June?

If he is looking for a 4 or 5 year deal, it would be interesting to see how much of a break he is willing to give on the first year to get a long term deal.

Why not? Low risk. If he hits well for the final 4-5 months, offer him a QO. Or trade him in July if he hits well May/June through July. It would be the type of signing rebuilding teams do (if that is the route we are going).

Altough if he could get a one year deal from a team looking to compete (like the Indians), he'd likely just take that.

The problem with bringing Avi to spring training is can you really trust he is "fixed" if he lights up pitchers working on getting ready for the season? I think he is a non tender almost for sure. Maybe they bring him back for a lower figure.

1. Saladino has a herniated disc in his lower back. Right now its an open question if he'll be able to play next season.

2. "Good" catchers are scarcer then hen's teeth, the price to get one may be overwhelming if any are even available.

Mark

Wow. I feel for Saladino. That's it for his career ala Crede. Those back injuries are brutal. I hope Lawrie steps it up a notch. About catcher ... if we don't get a good one we can forget about the wildcard.

We've had plenty of domestic abusers in the past....at least this one is good at baseball.

Who in recent memory other than Brett Myers, which was disgusting enough?

And justifying domestic abusers based on talent and "well, we've done it before" isn't a great spot to be in.

just off the top of my head....andruw jones, Canseco, myers, sosa, wil cordero.

Jones was after his time with the Sox, Sosa was gone from the Sox shortly after his accusation, Myers is scum, Canseco is scum and Cordero was also a mistake.

Just because they've made the same mistake doesn't mean they should repeat it.
