Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Featured Replies

Cy Acosta, where are ya buddy? There is finally a legit rumor involving the Pirates. :D

How about Meadows (#9), Newman (#42), Keller (#72) and Diaz? Gives the Sox a return of two top 50's, a top 100 and a catcher that profiles to at least be a backup MLB C with good defensive skills and strong arm.

  • Guys...I feel like losing Quintana would hurt the most. What is everyone's thoughts on keeping him? Maybe he can be the Ace of the next good Sox team.

  • http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/2123...white-sox-talk/   Official site of the Yankees reporting that the earlier reports of Robertson being included in trade talks was false.

I think this is a good point. Should we trade w the Pirates I would assume that Bell, Glasnow and Hanson are all off the table because they're in the majors (especially Bell and Hanson). It makes too much sense for a deal to be centered around Meadows, Newman and other pieces.

I'd love a Meadows, Newman, Hayes, & Diaz return. A legit top 10 prospect to headline, two more top 100 guys in the back half, plus an interesting catching prospect. All four are position players, which is obviously a huge area of need for us, and three of these guys are former 1st round picks with nice upside. Diaz is pretty much major league ready and would be a nice guy to give look while we wait and see if Collins can stick at catcher. Meadows could probably be called in June with the other near major league ready guys in Moncada, Giolito, & Lopez. Newman is probably only a year out from helping. There is a lot to like with type of package and it's something the Pirates might consider since they'd get to keep Glasgow, Keller, & Bell.

There's no need for Keller, our other deals have not included a third top 100 guy.

Of all our potential center pieces Meadows is my favorite.

If Buster is reporting that in the middle of the night, do you guys think discussions were happening at that time

Olney always starts the day with articles and bits of news like this.

Josh Bell please

Who would their 1B be if they traded Bell? Can't see them subtracting from their major league roster unless they have an obvious replacement.

They could sign Chris Carter for cheap.

I like the Pirates system a lot.

Meadows / Bell / Hayes / Hearn sign me up.

Meadows and Keller fit with what the sox have been doing this winter. Top prospects in BA who are about 23 and younger. I'm just glad Meadows recovered from that gruesome eye injury. Big fan of his. His arm isn't that great, power is meh (although in our park can certainly help there) but that kid is an incredible player with instincts. Too bad they gave up Reese Mcguire though. :P

Meadows hit 12 homers in just over 300 ABs as a 21 year old. His power grade is 55.

I absolutely love the Pirates as potential trade partners. As most of you, been waiting for this to get out. That's now 3 teams publicly interested in Q.

Meadows is the headliner for me.

Meadows, Newman, Keller, and Hayes for Quintana and Jennings.

I honestly think if Newman is the second piece coming back, also getting a lesser top 100 prospect like Hayes is fair. Kopech & Lopez both had a ton of helium and are better prospects than Newman IMO. Also, it's not like getting three top 100 types is unheard of. The Nationals were offering three for Sale with two of those guys being top 10 types. The Phillies got three top 100 guys for Hamels, although I don't think there was a headliner like Meadows involved. Regardless, it all depends on where these guys are ranked on these lists, as not all top 100 prospects are the same.

Agreed, Kopech and Lopez are definitely better prospects than Newman.

No need for a strike thrower with the potential of being a ground ball machine?

I would love a deal with the Pirates where the Sox actually pay some of Q's salary so that they get the best possible prospect return. It may be a better investment than a broken down veteran to flip at the deadline.

That's too much IMO. Take out Jennings & Keller and I think you have a better framework.

I'm saying our hypotheticals have been over each time. It's unlikely we get three top 100 prospects when one of those is a near ready top ten.

I think Hayes is more doable. Tougher to say you gave up top three prospects when others did not (unless you consider bell/Trillin prospects)

Meadows, Newman, Hayes, and Diaz/Escobar?

This is exciting. Things seem to be heating up a bit.

If this Pirates rumor is true, I would expect a Quintana trade done before Christmas.

What would you want from Pittsburgh? I don't know their system that well, but I think Meadows is a must as the headliner.

If the Sox can nab Meadows, Newman, and Keller for Q, I will lose my s***. That would be the best Christmas present ever and would probably benefit both teams pretty well. Sox get guys that can make an impact in 2018, Pirates dont lose anyone from their roster next year, they get a cheap player that can help their financial situation, and the Sox get some blue chip position prospects and a pitching prospect with an insane K:BB ratio.

Another interesting thought would be a three way trade with someone who wants to trade for McCutchen. The Pirates get Q, the other team gets Cutch, and the Sox get a load of prospects from both teams.
