Oh and noted war criminal Henry Kissinger was at the White House today

Subject: Pool report #1b - Trump meeting with Henry Kissinger

The White House summoned the press pool just after 11:20 a.m. for what some had assumed would be a spray of President Trump's meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Pool was ushered into the Oval Office at 11:26 a.m., but Trump was instead seated beside former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The meeting with Kissinger was not on Trump's public schedule today.

POTUS, wearing a dark suit and red striped tie, said he met with Kissinger to talk "about Russia and various other matters."

"We're talking about Syria and I think that we're going to do very well with respect to Syria and things are happening that are really, really, really positive," Trump added. "We're going to stop the killing and the death."

POTUS then said he had a "very, very good meeting" with FM Lavrov. He said both sides want to end "the killing -- the horrible, horrible killing in Syria as soon as possible and everybody is working toward that end."

The Lavrov meeting was closed to the press and the only visual account we have of it thus far is via handout photos from the Russian government. Those images show Trump also met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Trump circled back and said it was "an honor" to discuss the issues with Kissinger because "he's been a friend of mine for a long time."

Trump then took two questions about his decision to fire James Comey as FBI director, the transcript of which was included in previous reports.

Pool was ushered out at 11:28 a.m.

A special thank you to radio pooler Greg Clugston, who generously shared his transcript the Comey remarks.

LOL, DOJ Spox calls report that Comey asked for more money "100% False", then follows up that he didn't ask for more money, he asked for more RESOURCES.

Glad we got that cleared up.

For some reason, the Russian Ambassador Kislyak was at Trump's closed door meeting with Russian FM Lavrov, but he wasn't even mentioned in the White House's readout of the meeting.

Kislyak is the guy at the center of the Flynn story who's long been suspected of being a spy.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:53 AM)
Well I'm not an expert on these matters, but we know that the case is already in the hands of a grand jury (at least one) which has issued subpoenas. That means a case, with facts and evidence, is being presented by lawyers in the US Attorney's Office. This is not just an FBI investigation anymore. Trump and the Republicans can't control what's about to happen. Comey saw to that. Any Republican still covering for Trump is probably implicated, since i have no other explanation for their actions. I seriously think the number of people who know the facts is getting too big to ever control.

Then there are the rumors that sealed indictments have already been issued. We will see about that.

The meeting for more resources is being confirmed in several outlets now.

Still unclear what day it was, but the timeline of "last week trump started asking for rationale to fire Comey" and "last week Comey asked the DAG, who wrote his letter of reasons to fire him, for more resources to investigate the Trump campaign" is ...

not a good look. It would be an open and transparent attempt to thwart an ongoing investigation into the presidency, and something that should require an independent congressional investigation.

So, the idea that they won't be able to quash this legally - the US Attorney's Office that you note...those people serve at the pleasure of the President. So to state that the White House can't control what is about to happen...The White House has already removed nearly all of the US Attorneys appointed under the previous administration, and when the NY Attorney refused to resign on the grounds that he was investigating the person who was asking him to resign, he was fired. On top of that...if I have this correct, the US Attorney for Alexandria Virginia, the person who would be responsible for the location where the Flynn investigation is taking place, he is the same person who Trump put in Sally Flynn's place after firing her in January and was the only US Attorney kept on. So even though he's a career prosecutor, on paper there's like 9 different conflicts of interest right there.

Furthermore...follow this timeline. Per multiple press reports, the Assistant AG Rod Rosenstein is the guy that the Russia investigation fell to after Sessions recused himself. He is also the guy who affixed his name to the letter firing Comey. Per press reports, he received a request for additional resources for that investigation last week, and WHILE HE HAD THAT REQUEST ON HIS DESK HE FIRED THE GUY WHO MADE THE REQUEST. Read that again. I don't care how "professional" your career looks otherwise, you do not do that - that is a clear conflict of interest and you cannot do that. That should be a fireable offense as well.

Calling up dem Senators and telling them you're going to purge the FBI that's actively investigating your campaign probably isn't the smartest move

and to think I was thinking on Monday afternoon "well, things seem to have settled down a bit from the absolutely insane pace they've been running at since 1/20"

Ah yes, remember when we were told it was just routine to fire all the US Attorneys at once? And then they still haven't been replaced?

And now the FBI director axed, no replacement in mind.

Lots of lying and dissembling from the White House. Now claiming they lost confidence in Comey from "day 1" despite Trump himself recently saying he still had confidence and Spicer saying last week he had the "full confidence" of the President. And it's totally okay that Trump praised Comey's actions during the campaign because, hey, he was a candidate then! No responsibility to maintain any semblance of ethics or norms, I guess.

They allegedly fired him entirely because of his conduct re: Clinton and being "too harsh" on her. They haven't received any new information whatsoever on this. It's such a transparently dumb and unbelievable excuse.

Says the people who wanted to "lock her up".

Listen, he was a candidate then, that doesn't count. It also doesn't count when he said just a couple of weeks ago that he had confidence in Comey despite considering firing him since day 1.

bmags really said it best. This was just an impulsive move by Trump, and now the rest of his administration and the GOP in Congress are left scrambling to try to explain why actually this a good thing.
