Next year's OD lineup of SS Anderson, 2B Moncada, 1B Abreu, RF Garcia, LF Delmonico, DH Davidson, 3B Sanchez, C Smith, and CF Leury looks like they can surprise a lot of people, especially in a weaker division...Not to mention the probable call-ups of LF Jimenez and C Collins next year along with CF Robert, 3B/1B Burger in '19

 

Next year's success in the W column really relies on pitching, which is off to a bad start with Rodon likely missing a month or so, but the rotation starting off '18 should feature Giolito, Fulmer, Lopez, and Shields (along with a cheap vet FA) with Rodon coming back in May and Kopech up in the summer

 

19's rotation should be Kopech, Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, and Hansen thus setting up '19 to be a major year and start of dominance for the ChiTown Sox

I hope things play out that way. If they do, signing Machado in the '18-'19 offseason makes a ton of sense.

There is absolutely no need in extending Abreu before his contract expires.

 

Unless he gives the White Sox a favorable deal like 4/60.

Considering Eloy has a league average arm, no, I do not think that will happen.

Considering upcoming drafts and the current system, do people think there is really that much risk in holding onto assets like Abreu/Garcia even if it means no return (aside from performance)? I'm really not that worried and a lot happens in 2 years. See what we were like in 2015.

I wouldn't trade Abreu unless some kind of package comes along where we almost can't say no. Something like a top 20 prospect plus others.

 

Avi, on the other hand, as much as I love what he's done this year, I would consider moving. Not just for anything, but I wonder if he could be packaged with something like Fulmer to get Giancarlo Stanton + $30-40 million.

Yeah i'd do it too. We just have so little longterm assets and frankly in 4-5 years when it would really hurt, I don't see that contract still being that insane unless tv revenues truly crash. But MLB is the one sport that I think handles it.

In regards to Avi and Stanton, that's surely something worth a discussion.

Absolutely. Still not sure what a Stanton trade would look like but we have to look into it. Adding Stanton to an Abreu, Eloy, Moncada offensive core is f***in salivating.

It's just a chance I'm willing to take. He can really make this team something special in the next 5-6 or whatever seasons. If that's the case then even if the contract becomes an albatross down the road you just deal with it. It's a risk, of course, but one I'm willing to take if the price is right.

Avi and Fulmer for Stanton and cash sounds great, but I feel like Miami would get a slightly better offer somewhere else. Maybe if we included someone like Adolfo or Stephens (somebody who's a decent prospect and blocked but not top tier), it could get done

If he could be the White Sox version of Big Papi, that would be most excellent. But I am pretty sure he is gone if the price is right. They could always bring him back.
