Should I be excited about Sox/Pirates

Featured Replies

Ok, I am a Sox fan since 1977, love the boys, live in Pittsburgh, have tickets to the two games this week. Tuesday night I am taking my entire family (behind home plate section 115) and Wednesday it'll be just my wife and I (behind the Sox dugout (section 112).

I have seen tons of Sox games...in Chicago, in Baltimore, in Cleveland, etc...at no time did things feel as futile as they do now. I am hoping to see Yoan play, ReyRey is on the mound, there are some things to be excited about, support the team the best I can.

It's baseball, in a great ballpark, in a great city, my favorite team. But man...10-27, while not totally unexpected blows so much. I am looking for a little pep talk from Sox fans. What's your take on things at this time?

I totally get where you're coming from and I hope you have fun.

From my perspective, Moncada being back is really all I need to be more excited. He was becoming watch TV before the injury.

Moncada back, Lopez on the mound for game 1, that should be OK. All bets are off game 2 with Fulmer. If the good version of him shows up, it should be fine. If the bad does, you might want to make sure you are there when the Sox bat in the first, before the game is over.

1) Look at the bright side. You will see Moncada in one of baseballs most beautiful parks.

2) The owner/management team threw up the white flag on this season before it even started. The team has holes but the biggest holes are on the pitching staff. The starters and bullpen simply can't get anybody out. The 1927 Yankees lineup couldn't win with this White Sox pitching staff

Just enjoy your favorite team and being with your family and the whole experience. Winning is secondary, Stay positive and don't fret about what you can't control. If they win, great, if not, it's part of the plan.

I get all that, but as a now partial season ticketholder, I can take losses. But it gets really difficult when it's not a competive game. A couple of years ago, I was on a streak of James Shields, game is over by the second inning starts. You feel ripped off.

Oh trust me I love when the Sox win and I cancelled my DirectV baseball package this year because I just don't get as involved watching losses but if you go with your family or have young children you HAVE to make the experience more important than the game itself. If the game itself sucks you take the kids around the park as part of the whole experience. Plenty of ways to make the experience more enjoyable.

The park is awesome, you're a Sox fan, and assuming you get good weather, you should have a good time. I've seen the Sox play there 9 times and I loved it everytime.

We are going to win both games.

How did you become a Sox fan? Or are you originally from Chicago?

It's a wonderful ballpark area, not just the park itself, make sure you make a day of it. Hit the New Orleans restaurant for beignets or something like that afterwards. Get there early, there's often stuff going on outside the park, always stop and take a couple photos while walking over the bridge.

This.  A bad day at the baseball stadium is better than a good day at work.

Not to be negative Nancy, but these are two losses. Bank it. Pitt roughed us up in Chicago and will do it again. Notice how we turned the Twins' season around.

Fluke. I had family from NW Indiana. Uncle was ALL Sox/Bears/Hawks/Bulls. I played little league back in the ...ahem....1970s, for SOME reason I started liking the Sox. I didn't really know my Uncle (who I saw 3-4 times a year) was a Chicago sports guy. But when he found out I liked the Sox he was ALL IN. I was NOT born in Illinois, nor have I ever lived there. I've pursued jobs there before, but nothing worked out.

I actually attended the last 3 games ever at ole' Comiskey. I have lost all 3 ticket stubs (damn). I saw hockey games at the ole Stadium (first game was v. the Jets in 79 I think) and Bears games of course.

My only "pull" to Chicago is my uncle, but FOR SOME reason I chose the Sox back when i was like 8...lol...I hate to admit this, but I "think" it was because of those uniforms. Kids choose their team for the dumbest reasons, but NO TEAM have I ever loved as long as the Sox.

Gregg banking on two losses in Pitt makes me feel that much better about the Sox chances of splitting the two game series. Thanks Gregg!!!

You mention “love” in your last sentence. That’s it. Win or lose, we all LOVE this team. Have a great time and don’t let the outcome effect how much you can enjoy watching your favorite baseball team with your loved ones
