High School? What is this high school you speak of.

Super speedy HS outfield with good projection? Love it.

6'2" 150?! They must be projecting putting some weight on him and developing some power.

393 on BA's Top 500.

Scouting Report: A plus runner, Weaver is an athletic, wiry outfielder with impressive athleticism that should allow him to become an above-average defender in center field. There is a lot of rawness in Weaver’s current game, both offensively and defensively. At the plate, Weaver has a whippy, quick bat and present strength that should continue to improve as he fills out a thin, 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. There are some moving parts and length to his swing, however, and the questions surrounding his hit tool have gone unanswered this spring. Additionally, Weaver is a better runner underway than he is from home to first, with more average run times to the bag than you would expect given his natural speed. A team high on his tools could try to sign him out of his Georgia commitment, but there’s a lot of polish necessary to project Weaver becoming anything more than a future fourth outfielder.

Seems good. At this point in the draft you're not going to get scouting reports that suggest a future star so loud tools and a high ceiling is a good bet.

From a perfect game article

Cabera Weaver (2018, Decatur, Ga.) had possibly the best day he and the South Gwinnett Comets could have asked for to open up the PG High School Showdown. Weaver finished off the day 4-6 with all of hits being singles. The University of Georgia signee made consistent contact hitting the ball out in front. Weaver’s hit tool, however, is commonly overlooked by his elite speed. The outfielder has some of the best speed in the 2018 class and it was on display frequentlyThursday. Weaver beat out an infield single running a 4.37-second home to first time then later advancing to third base after an error by the right fielder.Weaver showcased his ability to spray line drives to all fields Thursday and one at-bat in particular really stood out. Weaver fell in the hole 0-2 in the second game of the Comets’ double header before fouling off a pair of pitches and really battling well. He then got extended well and laced a line drive to right field. The Georgia signee is a really special player and fun to watch all around.

Yep, that's what I would be doing. Draft guys with an extreme tool, and hope a couple other tools develop. The pitchers who can throw flames, the hitters who can burn, the bats that can slug.

Will they be able to sign him?

It seems like Weaver isn't very twitchy yet, but with how skinny he is you can probably project a ton more good weight on him and probably have some top speed traded in for more twitchiness

If they drafted him here, they know they can sign him.

I don't think they'd draft anybody in the first 10 rounds for which they had signability concerns because not signing a top 10 round pick lowers the bonus pool.

It doesn't lower the bonus pool, you just don't get to redistribute that slot money elsewhere.

It looks like his arm is going to snap off on his follow through.

I thought you lost the slot amount for the pick you don't sign?

It does lower the bonus pool. If you don't sign the 7th rounder, you lose the ability to spend the slot value associated with 7th pick.

Of course. Why do you keep asking this? It's a pick in the top 10 rounds.

I ask for prep players, because they have the leverage.  And I don't think the Sox have taken any college seniors who have no leverage and  who they can ding for 10K and overspend on others.

Yep. Which is why teams are pretty damn sure top 10 round picks are going to sign when they select them.

Rounds 8-10 haven't happened yet.

It does lower the bonus pool.  The slot for our 7th round pick is $226,200.  If we don't sign Weaver, that money is taken away from our pool.

There will still probably be a few that don't sign. It happens, I saw yesterday a team had an extra pick because they didn't sign their 2nd round draft pick last year.

You do. We're saying the same thing the wording of "lowering your bonus pool" just read a little weird to me, because it doesn't affect any of the other slots, but yeah, technically I guess it does.
