7-8 Stros/Sox Game Thread

Featured Replies

Time for your regularly scheduled Giolito optimism/hand-wringing game thread.  Is the velocity up? Is the spin rate down? Is the fastball garbage? Where is the curveball? Go Sox?

4 pitch walk for Giolito. If he gets shelled today, send him down and let Stephens start vs KC next weekend.

19 walks, 6 strikeouts on the year for Giolito in the first inning. That might be the most pathetic stat you will ever see.

Hey a strike

I'm pretty intrigued by Stephens. Could be a solid back-end guy. He should get a shot at some point.

There's no reason for Giolito to be up here. His starts have to be demoralizing for the rest of the team at this point. I get that they don't want to use that last option - but either he's good enough to stick on the roster next year or nobody is going to want to claim him anyways.

At Soxfest a few years ago, back when Carson Fulmer was highly thought of and Nick Capra was running the minor leagues, Capra said he thought Stephens was as good of a prospect as Fulmer

Giolito took so long on that DP turn... gave Yoan no shot to get Altuve at first

I still find it so weird that Capra went from the top farm guy to third base coach. Like, how are those roles in any way related? How is he qualified for that?

Nice to get out of it. Houston pays for not sending Altuve. That is the other issue with Giolito, teams run wild against him

They wanted developmental guys on the major league coaching staff.

Atta boy Lucas.

But he's a talent evaluator. Not a coach. Just doesn't make sense to me

Still a weird switch. Not quite as weird as Rueben Amaro Jr. going from a GM to a 1B coach.

Why are the Sox using their typical lineup against left handers today, in view of the fact that Keuchel has been better vs. rh hitters?

They make the pitches Davidson sees a big deal, but guys that strikeout as much as he does usually see at least 3.

Dan Jennings from GM to (temporary) manager is another weird one

The question is what wins out. The lefty pitcher better vs. righties or the righty hitters better vs. lefties.

I have always liked Leury. But he was really brutal for a while

Leury needs to be playing CF every day. That way we could get Palka/Tilson reps in LF

Tilson doesn't need more reps. He's not a major leaguer. Don't forget Delmonico will be back soon.

Yeah that’s an NBA move.

Palka should be out there every day. Delmonico will be back soon and he's going to lose more playing time if not sent down.

Left handed hitters are hitting .304 vs. Keuchel, this year.

Looks like a good team effort so far.
