Can definitely see it. But luckily it isn't Gio himself causing it. The kid knows he pitched well.

Yeah, I mean he broke Kemp's bat. He did great.

And if you aren’t up for that, you can spend that time b****ing about the b****ing, you can’t lose.

Time for your regularly scheduled Giolito optimism/hand-wringing game thread.  Is the velocity up? Is the spin rate down? Is the fastball garbage? Where is the curveball? Go Sox?

Great game by Gio. That second run by Houston was caused by poor d. Anemic Sox offense did not help the cause

He was yelling at himself while coming off the field after the 7th, with that bunt.

And...?

That's just competing and wanting to win. Knowing he missed an opportunity.

I'm sure if you asked him - he'd be fully aware that this was a big positive.

At least he's showing emotion now

I have to imagine since every one of the Sox catchers do it.. the Sox have to be teaching backhanding the ball..

Wow... what a pitch from Soria!

Nice Soria, more happy for Giolito

That curve ball was filthy.

That was an absolute perfect breaking ball by Soria on 3-2 there to Altuve. Ain't nobody hitting that. Straight at the front shoulder to freeze the legs and quick action down to the plate. Jose Altuve, Mike Trout or Mickey Mantle... it's over Johnny!

I remember some of us here wanted Hahn to get Rondon for this season. Dude has been very good looking at his numbers.

Does Yoan have a hit against a closer this year?  Desperately needs to be more aggressive in those situations.

Should have signed him to be the closer

He has weird variation in his stats.

.290 OPS in the 9th inning.

.544 OPS in "late and close" situations.

But...

.814 OPS in high leverage ABs.

.910 OPS in tie games.

Of course, all of these are a small sample size. Still interesting.

Who's to say they didn't try?

This is the first time in franchise history that the Astros have swept a season series of 7 or more games.

Well Astros signed him for cheap and definitely wasn't told he'd be their closer.

You mean to tell me he'd want to pitch on the team that just won the world series? Crazy.

I don't even think Sox were looking at him from all accounts.

After the season he had last year, I'm sure he would have loved the chance to be a closer instead of like 5th or 6th on Astros depth chart. With relievers, it usually comes down to money offered more than anything.

Yep, had to make sure to bring back MiGo :)

The Orioles and Royals must only be 6 games

Isn't this the first time that the Sox have been swept by an AL team in a seasonal series?

Payback for the Sox  sweeping them in the WS.
