If it was Trout, I wouldn't complain much. I'm not sure Ohtani is that good of a hitter. Upton is a good player but nothing special.

That wasn't even close to a swing. Yoan might be too pretty for baseball. He's making all the umps jealous.

You know I am always trying to support all Sox players but it’s getting more difficult watching Engel hit

i really think they should just let ohtani hit and play of full time.

Even with his pitching prowess? Are you saying that because of injury risk?

yea, 100%

Hope scouts are seeing Leury is capable of being a dangerous bench guy in the playoffs and a decent fill-in in the event of injury.

it's honestly amazing that leury and yolmer are above replacement level.  where the hell where these guys when the sox were trying to win

Those are 3 above average (at a minimum) hitters.  He has great fastball command tonight, it's just he still struggles mightily with his off speed pitches.  When he was good last year, he used off speed pitches early in the count and then put hitters away with the high fastball.

perfect NL bench player

Anderson hadn’t taken a BB in his last 20 games and only one in his last 29.  I’m not sure what our hitting coach is actually doing with these guys.

Please tell me people saw Engel's swing there?  Is he in Little League?

Engel has a wRC+ of like 55 now.  And yet they continue to trot him out there quite a bit.  I really don’t get it.

Shame. He was struck out.

yep, awful miss call.  Ump is doing Lucas no favors.

That Fletcher dude doubled AFTER he was actually struck out.

Well that pickoff attempt was less than ideal.

almost broke Yoan's wrist, Cliff Floyd-style

jason is so bad.

his breaking pitches just aren't close enough to get people to consistently think of swinging at them.

That is the next thing Giolito has to to to take step #2. He has to get his breaking pitches over for strikes early in the count, and when throws one out of the zone don't bounce it or make it so far outside that it is an easy take.

Jesus H. Christ ump, that was outside. What does the MLB umpires union have vs Moncada?

really should just ditch the curve completely

Not worth it. he's average defensively once you factor in how bad his arm is. He'd have to be at least an 80 wRC+ guy for me to be ok with us running him out there every day

He can go get em in CF, but he has a noodle arm. If the dude could throw I'd get it.

good eye, about time an ump called strikes correctly

I know he has trouble commanding it, but it is his best breaker. I don't know why you'd ditch your best secondary pitch. When he was in the minors they were giving his curve a 65 or 70 on a regular basis.

Moncada looked legitimately surprised that the umpire called ball four (on an obvious ball). Can't say I blame him
